Protodude: What can you share about Udon's plans for new, original Mega Man comics?
Udon: The overall plan for the first year is to release one new Mega Man comic each month, which could be either a one-shot or part of a miniseries. The goal is to appeal to as many types of Mega Man fans as possible with these initial offerings. To achieve this, Udon is assembling creative teams that include a mix of Udon regulars, creators who have previously worked on Mega Man comics, and passionate Mega Man super-fans.
The current slate of original Mega Man comics are the following:

Udon: Mega Man Adventures is the new hardcover collection of the Mega Man stories originally published by Archie Comics, with each volume containing 12 issues. A special “Deluxe” edition featuring bonus items will also be available, with more details to come. In addition to the original stories, each volume will include a brand-new short story set during the same time period as the collected issues. The first of these will be created by Ian Flynn and Ryan Jampole. While the collections will not currently include the crossover issues with Sonic the Hedgehog due to rights limitations, this is something the team is actively exploring for the future.
Protodude: Any chance we'll see new stories set in the Battle Network and Star Force series?
Udon: We don’t have anything planned yet, but yes! While any project would be subject to Capcom's approval, they’ve told us that Battle Network and Star Force are okay to propose for potential comic stories.
Protodude: Does Udon have any current plans for Mega Man beyond comics?
Udon: We’ll also continue to publish Mega Man art books and manga, with both new releases and reprints planned across both categories.
Protodude: Mega Man X: Mega Mission was announced seven years ago, but there have been no updates since. Can you share the current status of the project?
Udon: Honestly, it was just a project that got delayed at first, then totally put on hold with the pandemic. We haven’t gotten back to it yet, but it’s back on the list now that we have the full Mega Man comics license.
Protodude: Akira Kitamura has recently returned to the public eye, sharing a wealth of new, original art on Twitter. Is there any possibility he might contribute to a future Udon Mega Man project?
Udon: We'd be happy to have Capcom game creators contribute to the comics in some way. We’re making a list of who to approach! ;)
Hype! 5 whole one shots/mini series is super cool! I'm also really looking forward to that "deluxe" edition of Megaman Adventures (I missed out on collecting the original releases, but i have read it twice)
ReplyDeleteoh well, 12 issues each, so decently large I guess, but no crossover stuff for now.
ReplyDeleteI would love for them to make a battle network and star force comic book, that timeline is my favorite especially the story and character designs. so i should be a little optimistic.
ReplyDeleteExciting stuff! Especially hearing that Mega Mission is back on the table. Great interview!
ReplyDelete@protodude is it possible to ask UDON if they would release the Megaman X1-X4 Mangas (iwamoto yoshihiro) Deluxe editions in English/colorised maybe? It would definitely sell well…maybe even commission Iwamoto Yoshihiro to finish X5-X8
ReplyDeleteGood news, but I'm not gonna give a penny to a company who gladly has someone (Matt Moylan) against DEI in their employ.
ReplyDeleteherewegoagain.png
DeleteEmploy? Isn’t he a founder?
DeleteThough that’s 0% surprising from the same man that spread libel about a Transformer being gay in the aftermath of Dreamwave.
....sigh. Good for you. Better books for the reat of us.
Delete@Jark okay that's legitimately a dick move
DeleteHe is one of the two co-founders, but yeah. As a trans Mega Man and Capcom fan it feels really bad to have someone in charge make statements against diversity, equality and inclusion. Mega Man, Street Fighter, should be for everyone.
DeleteUdon has the opportunity to do a lot of good with their license but I won't give them any of my money unless Matt Moylan apologizes for his comments.
The E in DEI is not equality (equal in opportunities - which is good), but equity (equal in outcomes - some communist crap).
DeleteAnd no one is against diversity, equality, and inclusion if it's not forced upon. Sometimes you just want to be left alone.
DEI doesn't get to the root of inequality, which is largely class-based.
Delete@RockmanNeo
DeleteWell, it’s no secret that corporate DEI programs focused on educating old dogs have been less than successful. *That’s* what a lot of DEI downscaling actually got rid of, but kept training programs that were effective.
Though I’ll say, I’m not entirely privy to this site’s guidelines, but this dialogue feels close to the borderline. I’m not sure if we need to talk about communism here, beyond maybe Dr. Cossack’s conception.
What does DEI or anti-DEI have anything to do with Street Fighter and Mega Man as a product not being for everyone??? You think forced employment quotas based on race, gender and lifestyle choices (which is illegal BTW) is stopping anyone from buying and enjoying Mega Man and Street Fighter?

ReplyDeleteThere was a lot more to that “leak,” though nothing as incendiary, aside from maybe claiming some Dreamwave writers didn’t care about the story.
And I’m not bringing this up just to stoke 20 year old drama, I’d like to think he’s moved on. But with what I’m hearing, it might be good to know a bigger history of his actions. Context is king, after all.
I would think it's less about moving on and more about his general attitude. I only know what I'm seeing here, so I barely have an opinion either way.
DeleteI just hope this doesn't end up like all the Mega Man toy lines that were prematurely cancelled the instant the Mega Man Zero installment was released and sold jack squat.
