ReplyDeleteman, these covers. the X ones are better than the classic ones, but they're kinda rough. feels like amateur fanart rather than professional work. would have been much better off with ultimateMaverickX doing the art.
ReplyDeleteI mean, it's a cover! it's meant to sell the book, don't skimp on that part!
I just noticed the middle one has a really weird fist for X D:
DeleteDamn... If I buy the floppies at all, I would get just one version. That was the one I was gonna get. I'm never going to unsee "potato fist"...
Deletehonestly, I'd like the first one, as at least the mavericks look decent. I'd actually prefer the first cover without X there. besides some oddities in X's shape here and there, the worst part of cover one is X's silly expression. that or how his right leg just curles outwards at the bottom is just plain weird.
Deletethird one looks like someone screenshotted an old flash animation.
>:3 Once you see it, you can't unsee it! @shrap
DeleteHah, I thought the same of Cover C at first blush. Though I find the style somewhat charming, at least as a C Cover.
DeleteHey Eric https://drive.google.com/file/d/1F4w-ZEDeMOvhnc6V3SrwcFEWrFlUig_B/view yay or nay? Mind you I speed did this in 30 or so minutes.
Deletesorry, didn't see this until now.
Deletereminds me of the X4 opening pose. there are a few things with this.
the torso doesn't align quite right with the pelvis. the pelvis is nearly facing directly at the camera, while the tro moves to the right then left while the chest doesn't arc forward at all.
torso and legs are a bit long.
light source seems inconsistent. you have the light to his left on the left leg, but then just above that shine, the pelvis is pure dark. you need to imagine where the lights are coming from and maybe play with soda cans and a flashlight to see how the light might look. getting one of those poseable dolls is definitely recommended
to me, it really looks like you learned by looking at official art of X and tried imitating what you saw without understanding why it was colored that way. you know there are light parts and dark parts, but they don't seem to agree at all on where the light source(s) is/are.
the head, buster and right shoulder are particularly good though. X's left ear thing seems a bit off, maybe it should be curved upwards more.
hands are tough, looks better than the hand in cover A imo, but it could use some more work. try taking a photo of your hand in the desired pose as a reference.
Seems like the story is gonna involve the first Light Capsule and seeing how X reacts. It's gonna be really fun seeing just the Leg parts on X in the comic.
ReplyDeleteAt least, that's my assumption.
X is gonna go >:C
DeleteTHESE ARE SICK not gonna lie i would probobaly display these on my shelf with the cover art showing unlike my other megaman comics which are just there on my shelf
ReplyDeleteI wanna like these, but X's face just looks off in all three of them.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I noticed X is making a >:C face in the first two.
DeleteCount me in for thinking Cover B looked cool until I saw the deformed hand. Like it was melted in the microwave. I don’t like to throw this around so casually, but it honestly looks like AI was involved at some point.
ReplyDeleteOther two aren’t bad though. Besides MHX designs. And X2 Zero. Hoping neither of those details are indicative of the final product…
Only thing I don't like about the third cover is the facial features of X and Zero. Seems relatively solid otherwise.
Deleteahem... allow me to ruin things.
Deletezero's hand holding the saber is teeny tiny when they're supposed to have pretty massive hands, while X's hand is outrageously large, as well as his shoulder being about as large as his head.
X's torso and pelvis are redonk long while his upper body has to be teeny tiny, as well as him having weird tiny legs. it's a weird mix and match of his SNES and PSX designs in ways that just don't mix.
and Zero looks like he's wearing a diaper
Counterpoint: Zero’s booty is making me act up.
DeleteYeah, it's rather off. Somehow it doesn't make me wig out the way the second cover does.
DeleteX's noodle legs in the first one are kinda silly, too.
Now I see the value in cover E. Rated E for everyone.
DeleteJust kidding. Variant covers are one of the reasons the comics industry is such a mess. It does little to expand the audience. All it does is sell the same book 5 times to a single collector. And everyone knows this.
The first two seem a little off, but that third one looks incredible
ReplyDeletedear lord cover D. I thought the prior ones were bad. what even is this? bass looks like those balloons you punch and it bounces back at you. axl's arms. what is this? why are these so bad? did they just like give them $20 and ask them to quickly slap something together?
ReplyDeletetheir bodies just make no sense. everyone's legs look like it's coming directly from the chest! I've looked at Cruz's work, he's waaaay better than this. this looks like maybe he took some old works lying around and slapped them together to make a cover. it feels so phoned in! maybe instead of 4 very mediocre covers, pool that money together to pay an artist to make 1 pretty good cover? maybe go crazy with $80 to one guy?
Considering Andrew Dickman's work looks pretty eh compared to his other work, it's possible they did pull from older art.
DeleteI guess people gotta pay the bills somehow.
Y'all are being really picky and ungrateful. These are not unprofessional, they're just the characters in their personal styles. They're not meant to be 1:1 with the original game art style.
ReplyDelete“Ungrateful” is a little strong, but I agree that these covers do all have artistic merit. Though I’m also not a huge stickler for proportions or anything. If they wanted perfect proportions, they would’ve posed a 3D model!
DeleteI agree. When I look at the comments, it's nothing but complaints and complaints. Mega Man hasn't get anything new besides collabs. Can't we just be grateful for what is given to us, at least for now?
DeleteIf you are who I think you are, your art is good. I'm kinda jealous.
DeleteNot that it's related to the topic at hand, but yeah. I don't go on Tumblr anymore, but I remember you.
DeleteOne moar thing: I was sort of thinking this was getting excessive, despite participating in the dogpiling. That's probably a sign for me to knock it off.
DeletePeople are allowed to voice their opinions about somthing they don't like, especially if it resides withing something they do like. I don't know where this idea of "tactical temporary acceptance just cause bad times" came from.
DeleteI would much rather a RS Proto Man or an Erik the Red commenting on my stuff than a yes man. Because they are genuine and don't mince stuff just for the sake of complementary, with a means to an end mentality.

DeleteJackdaw... Is that the new speak of the week? So your not a bird?
DeleteI don't know what the blog's stance is on swearing, but I do love birds.

DeleteYou can swear. You just can't be critical or complain. People can't handle that shit.
DeleteYou must conform and consume if you want a happy internet life.
Because the internet perpetuates mental illness, and people associate so strongly with their fandoms that they interpret criticism of fandom subjects to criticism of themselves. Very sad.
DeleteHere's where you're off base. like I said in one of my posts, I've looked at their work, these artists do a LOT better than what we're getting. a comic cover is the main advertising for the book. that's where you put your best foot forward.
Deletethis isn't just "in their personal styles" because if you look at their portfolios, their work is typically better than this. this is low effort for sure. why is it low effort? who knows? my guess is that the money offered isn't much, so you get what you pay for.
Why X got a tooth for a fist tho?
