The Great Capcom Exhibition opens its doors today at the Nakanoshima Museum of Art in Osaka! Running from March 20 to June 22, this massive showcase dives deep into Capcom’s legacy, featuring everything from its game development process to displays of rare archival materials.
Mega Man, X, Lan and MegaMan.EXE lead the Character Parade, a 16-meter long mural that greets visitors at the entrance. You can see it in motion here!
In Round 2, visitors can try their hand at the pixel art corner, where they can use a tablet to color pixel art. The challenge lies in matching the correct colors within a time limit. Mega Man's sprite is the easiest to complete, but there are more complicated sprites for those up for the task. Once finished, a QR code appears, allowing visitors to download their completed piece. See it in action here.
The Capcom Game Chronicle corner is a trove of archival materials, showcasing production documents, original packaging artwork, posters, and more. Pages from Mega Man 1's design document that were previously not published on Capcom Town are on display. Only two pages have been spotted at the time of this writing with more hiding out somewhere at the expo. We'll update this post if anything turns up.
The Motion Capture Mirrors are located near the end of the exhibit, allowing visitors to experience Capcom’s motion capture technology firsthand—no equipment required. Simply stand in front of the camera and watch as your movements sync up with Mega Man or Ryu in real time. Mega Man's character model is taken from Mega Man 11, with its resolution enhanced for the large display.
According to Game Watch, it takes about 3 to 4 hours to explore the entire exhibit—no surprise, given its 40-year history. As it opens to the public in the coming days, more details are sure to surface. Stay tuned for updates, and in the meantime, check out the links below for more images and videos!

Now I wish that this exhibit were in Texas. Possibly at the galleria in Dallas.
ReplyDeleteThe Mocap one brings me back to my days as a little kid at a local museum back when they had an interactive exhibit involving it. Fun stuff.
ReplyDeleteHaving essentially “Kinect Mega Man” as a rare promotional “experience” is possibly the best representation of Capcom’s goals and aspirations for the series. Banjo got the same thing… 10 years ago!
