Mega Man 10 Online Co-Op Fully Restored

Earlier this year, co-op multiplayer for Mega Man 10's prototype builds was successfully restored, though it initially required both players to be on the same Wi-Fi network. Today, the restoration team has released new tools enabling online play, allowing you and a friend to connect from anywhere.

The following instructions come to us from RED1 (credits to MiniMacroSound for demonstrating online):

  1. Download the emulator
  2. Download the prototype build of Mega Man 10
  3. Setup your own local server (HOST ONLY): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_PgF_g6alNc
  4. Edit the following in the configuration file after you create your server:

    • license_mask = 1
    • upnp = true
    • (use CTRL+F to find what you want to change)

WARNING: Your experience may vary based on the distance between you and your partner, which could result in severe lag. Do NOT open the pause menu while playing. It will cause a desync and result in a game crash!

If you have any questions or issues, join the Xenia Project Discord server and use #xenia-netplay: https://discord.gg/Q9mxZf9 (note that this is an Xbox 360 focused server, not a Mega Man 10 server. Please be respectful)

Xenia Netplay Webservices Github: https://github.com/AdrianCassar/Xenia-WebServices

A few key points to bear in mind before you play:

  • Joining a hosted session isn't perfect. The better the connection between both players, the better.
  • Recommended to use LAN VPN, like Radmin VPN or Hamachi.
  • PC needs to have DirectX12 or Vulkan to run Xenia.
  • UPNP needs to be on in Xenia Configuration. See above instructions.

  1. So... Why was this removed, again? About a year ago, I remember there being speculation that Inti Creates may have had difficulty getting the Assist Co-op Mode to function online (with Mighty No. 9 being used as a prime example), but this video completely shows otherwise. I see no valid reason as to why they scrapped mode altogether.

    1. Probably a few reasons I can name off the bat:

      - Issues with desyncs
      - LAN-only setup (the 'online play' here is really just a known workaround)
      - More than one of a single character
      - Game balance issues
      - Keiji Inafune

    2. ..."scrapped this mode", I meant to say in that last sentence.

    3. I mean the fact that fans have put time and effort into restoring it, and it still isn’t perfect, might indicate that the devs didn’t have the time or budget to finish it

    4. Time and budget.

    5. Same reason W.Waltz is still soft-banned from future appearances, Capcom nonsense.

    6. Mighty No. 9's online is pretty embarassing, mostly because it was what caused all of the delays just for the feature to *still* be broken, but also the way it's set-up makes no sense: instead of sending an invite to a friend which they can accept or decline the game expects both players to send invites to each other *within the same timeframe* under the same conditions. And worse yet, they forego any kind of local multiplayer because "they didn't want to make it split-screen" (it's pretty telling how the trailer with Keiji Inafune and Takuya Aizu playing has them running perfectly because *it's a fucking LAN match*)

But in reality it was a constant for Inti Creates to be unable to figure out online co-op seeing how their co-op centric game Dragon Marked for Death spent the best part of a decade stuck in development hell too (never played that game, dunno how good is the netcode on that one). And with games like Curse of the Moon 2 and Grim Guardians it seems like they had decided to not bother making the netcode themselves but to rely on Steam's "Remote Play Together" as a solution

    7. @11:19 AM DMFD's netcode is fine, I've played with friends quite a bit and encountered no issues. The new Grim Guardians coming out late March is also set to have online coop, though it's going to be added in a post-launch update.

  2. Emulator link is broken :(

  3. Insider information told me inti creates simply couldn’t figure it out. Even after telling capcom they could.

  4. Very cool. It’s a shame it didn’t work out for the official release.

  5. Fans still out working crapcom I see. Why are there fans for crapcom again? Might as well be a fan of the fans at this point lol.

    1. I often wonder the same thing, modern Capcom just doesn't compare to how they used to be in the 90's.

    2. Good lord, if anything this is Inti Creates' failure, not Capcom's.

      Get out of the fanbase!

      Delete
    3. @11:57 am, if you have a issue with peoples opinions maybe you should get out of the fanbase. Who are you to tell people to leave anyway?

      Delete
    4. @11:57 am, lmao. Who exactly made you the ambassador of the fanbase? Tone down the ego and quit acting like a brat just because someone has a different opinion than you. You have zero right to tell someone to get out of the fanbase that has probably been a fan much longer than you.

    5. @12:52 AM and 2:16 AM
There's a difference between just having an opinion and trying to whine a new Mega Man game into existence. I don't care what you think about me, just know that screaming "Crapcom" every 3 minutes does absolutely nothing but make the Mega Man fanbase look like a bunch of crybabies.

I get it, the franchise hasn't had a "NEW" "GOOD" game in years. But the amount of time we claim the series has been on hiatus is just as much an argument against us as we think it favors us. 8 years, and we can't take the hint that maybe there's nothing new coming for games?

    6. @12:16 pm, the thing is 11:57am shouldn't be telling people to get out of the fanbase just because they are frustrated with Capcom now compared to how they used to be in the 90s. A random anon on the Internet acting like he is in charge of the entire fanbase is ridiculous.

    7. @12:56 PM
Are you saying they should go unchallenged just because they're fans, too? Literally nobody in the MM community has ever thought that Capcom were infallible gods of game development, either now or in the past. This even includes Capcom as they were in the 90s.

Interesting that the only response other anons had was to pull made-up rank on being called out.

    8. 2:05 pm, why don't you try reading what I said? 11:57 am telling people to get out of the fanbase like a brat is ridiculous and he clearly fanboys hard for Capcom.

      Delete
    9. @2:26 PM Sure, keep running cover for that elitism.

      Delete
    10. no changes to the game were made in order to get this working, just the emulator, meaning that co-op had already been working to this degree when the feature was cancelled

      Delete
    11. 2:26 PM, I literally just made the point that nobody has ever viewed Capcom that way. But if you want to strawman "Crapcom defenders" go ahead, it won't bring a new Mega Man game into existence.

      Delete
    12. @7:03pm, yeah okay so 11:57 am is the ambassador of Mega Man, got it. Telling people to get out of the fanbase isn't doing the franchise any favors either.

      Delete
    13. @12:44 AM Better an ambassador than people who think they own the brand.

      Delete
    14. @11:33 am, you have zero right to tell people to get out of a fanbase for having criticisms about the company that owns the franchise, quit acting like a brat.

  6. Ok, hear me out. Megaman X Co op, with X, Axl and my personal favorite ZERO! Megaman x8 style but no character swapping. You each pick one, hell make it multi-player and have 3 or 4 maverick hunters on screen at once. Add unlock able characters like Sigma, Vile, Alia, Layer, Pallete, Double, Colonel, Iris, and Protoman. This would be an epic game for sure.

    1. Okay? Nobody here works at Capcom and nobody here is going to make your dream game for you. If you want this to exist, go learn how to code and make it your own personal fan game project.

    2. If you can find it there was a (very) broken but interesting X fan game with co-op called 21XX. The problem was that X and Zero were on different teams with a wildly different bunch of weirdos you'd recruit throughout the journey. Co-op was up to three players and I had played two versions of it, one where everyone had to stay on one screen (I think this was an earlier version) and one where everyone had their own screen.

  7. Is there a way to play this on one computer, by opening up two instances of Xenia and connecting that way?

  8. The Classic and X anon gets so rabid and irrational whenever anyone criticizes their elitism because they have an inferiority complex, they know Battle Network is too good and can't stand it, and not everyone likes to hear people irrationally pretending otherwise in public.

    1. Elitism doesn't equal popularity, way to prove that other anon right, lol.

    2. Who are you people and why are you beefing? Just kiss and make up already, the sexual tension on this site is palpable.

    3. Ah yes, here's the battle network guy mentioned above lol.

    4. Battle Network sucks.
