"The Great Capcom Exhibition" Detailed


Capcom held a press conference today at the Nakanoshima Museum of Art in Osaka to provide details about "The Great Capcom Exhibition." The exhibition will be held in Osaka from March 20 to June 22, 2025, and aims to showcase Capcom's history and game creation process.

The exhibition will consist of four areas: three areas called "Rounds" and one final area called "Bonus Stage."

ROUND 1 is titled "The Game Chronicle Through Capcom's Eyes." It offers a look back at Capcom's history in the game industry through a giant timeline.

Visitors will be greeted by a new 16-meter-long animation showcasing the company's most popular characters marching forward. Mega Man from the Classic series, as well as MegaMan.EXE and Lan from the Battle Network series, will be at the front of the parade, as seen in the image above.

ROUND 2, titled "Technology × Art × Ideas," dives into the technical and artistic challenges behind Capcom’s games.

The section called "Style of Pixel Art" will take an in-depth look at the sprite work of the first Mega Man game, exploring the challenges posed by hardware limitations and other topics of interest.

Additionally, there will be a section in the same area that delves into the specifications, plans, and sound effects of past games, with Mega Man 11 being one of the featured titles.



ROUND 3, roughly translated as "The Unmatched Fantasy Created by Capcom," will focus on popular Capcom characters transformed into plaster statues through projection mapping. The detailed 3D CGI creation process and production stages will be showcased.

Statues of Chun-Li from Street Fighter and Dante from Devil May Cry will be displayed to provide an easy-to-understand introduction to the realistic creation and production process of 3DCG.

Finally, the BONUS STAGE area: a pixel art experience corner where visitors can use a tablet device to create pixel art of Capcom characters and experience dot typing and motion capture modeling.

In addition to the hardware and software of past games, a large number of "old documents" such as specifications and plans will also be on display, with "more than 80% of the specifications being shown for the first time."

    3. @12:06 pm, definitely agree. Sega is making a ridiculous decision to delist all of those games across various platforms. Capcom is kind of a lame company but at least they aren’t delisting a big chunk of their older game catalog like Sega.

  2. I think I appreciate the technical NES stuff here the most, even if it’s all stuff I’m already familiar with.

    And I’m hoping against hope that G-Red/Kou are in that walking animation. I mean, G-Red’s only 6 inches tall! Who’s to say that he isn’t behind Dante’s leg or something? :p

  3. I like the idea, but as a hot take I really hate Capcom Japan always keeps putting Rockman X Aside and just leaving Battle Network and Classic at front, I mean still asking myself why so much hate towards X? If he wasn't his fault that they made the worst decisions and it's downfall after X5.

    1. X6 wasn't a bad game to be honest, it's just not as good as 1-5 which makes it feel bad in comparison. X7 had some good ideas but didn't execute them very well so it's mostly a stinker, X8 was actually really good but got overlooked because a lot of people lost interest after X7, and then there was also MHX which was peak. Overall, I'd struggle to describe what happened as a "downfall" at all whatsoever. It's more like it just fell into the same pit of neglect the rest of the franchise did.

    2. It was a downfall as far as sales go, which is what Capcom really cared about. I think rising budgets for game dev at the time were a factor too. The PS1 era felt progressively cheaper as it went on (at least non-Legends), but it had moderate success, which led to more investment in the 6th generation, though not the sales to keep it going. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the last non-spite Mega Man game from Capcom was made as a small, cheap, NES style game.

    3. Classic Mega Man is the "main" Mega Man series, so its a no brainer it gets top billing in most things, I also assume Capcom realized Battle Network is still one of the most popular Mega Man series following the collection as well.

    4. X5 is terrible with atrocious level design that has too much waiting like the elevator in Pegacion's stage.

    5. @7:06 pm, agreed. X5 felt like a huge downgrade compared to X4. The X series I feel reached it’s peak with X1-4 and pretty much went downhill after that for 5-7. 8 was okay.

    6. I haven't played X5 but X4 was just fine, the ride chaser stage sucks so hard, most of the boss fights were frustrating, ESPECIALLY FINAL SIGMA (as Zero anyway, I didn't bother playing as X). Idk hot take but at least when playing on an emulator X1-3 are much more fun games than X4. The only draw of the game for me is being able to play as Zero fully and not in a half baked way like X3, but I can just go the the Zero series for that, where he plays MUCH better mind you, so for me anyway X4 was just fine, not bad but not the best either. I may change my opinion once I get the legacy collection but I don't have that yet lol.

    7. Yeah I’m not too big on X4 either, though a lot of that is me not liking the music. Same thing with MM4 (Zero 4 broke the curse).

      Though in general, the PS1 X games feel a lot more “boxed in” than on SNES. Like, I feel like on SNES the levels had a lot more sections that scroll on both axes, and for PS1 more sections were just on one. The bigger sprites didn’t help (I think the PS1 games are at a *slightly* higher resolution, but it’s not enough to keep the screen proportions out of Gameboy range).

    8. X4 was a beastly game. It had fantastic visuals, music, art style, presentation, game design etc. My only gripe with it was A. The English voiceovers B. I thought it was waaay too easy, I mean not Kirby levels but approaching.

      I never thought of comparing how Zero plays in the X games like X4 (where he was fully playable) to the Zero games. I mean he plays fine in both. His controls make him feel a little more weighty in the X games, which makes it feel less cheap TBH. Zero in the Zero games darts around like a fennec fox, which makes him feel like he weighs the same as a feather. Other than that obviously Zero from the Zero games is far more fleshed out with much better integrated abilities to complement the enemies and levels etc. The Zero games are probably my favorite and it had the most consistent high quality, maybe outside of Classic. So I am clearly bias toward it.

    9. @Jark Spore: I think Mm4 and X4 had mostly good music but I will say there are some that get kinda bland. (Also I'm shocked to see someone else who likes Z4's music)

      I'm glad you said that cause you described how I felt about the levels perfectly, I always felt like I was kinda too big in most areas.

      @One: I actually enjoyed the English voiceover ngl... I think my favorite voice was either Double's or Sigma's, though I thought Iris and Colonel voice were ok too. It's mainly X, Zero and General who I thought had mediocre voices but even then I thought they were fine enough.

      The Zero games are my favorite too so I'm also very biased in this regard. But I like the less weighty feeling in the Zero games a lot, mainly cause it makes sense lore wise seeing as Zero has substantially less armor than his X counterparts. I think both feel good to play as movement wise though.

      I didn’t know Zero 4 ost was disliked. It’s easily my 2nd favorite of the Zero games, more-or-less tied with Zero 2. Straight Ahead is one of the all time Mega Man endgame stage themes, up there with MM2 Wily stage 1, the X1 and MM10 endgame stages, X5 Zero stage, and the Main Gate from Legends.

    13. @Jark Spore: Yeah, I've seen quite a few people dislike it, but mainly because they don't like the soundfont. Personally, I think the soundfont is pretty good. My favorite songs from MMZ4 are Caravan: Hope for Freedom (the opening stage theme), Kraft's themes, Holy Land, Falling Down, Ciel D'aube, Freesia (I wish I knew Japanese so I could sing it lol), Nothing Beats, Crash IV (best Crash imo), Deep Blue, Cyberspace and Crossover Station, in no particular order. The only song from Z4 I don't like that much is Sleeping Beast (Fenri Luneage's stage theme).

    14. I’ll admit, the crunchy GBA samples can be an acquired taste. Though I don’t think it’s much worse than SNES, and guitars in particular are one of the harder instruments to get sounding right on any soundfont, regardless of sample size.

    15. @Jark Spore: Oh, yeah it's definitely not for everybody so I understand why some dislike it. I do think it sounds on par with the SNES games... Except X3, and it's all because of Tunnel Rhino's stage theme lol. I had to go through there so much and it's so long that I started muting the game on his stage XD.

  6. Seeing Lan and Megaman.EXE up there is really cool! All the Ace Attorney protagonists, too! I always love seeing behind-the-scenes stuff. Hopefully some of the displays in that exhibit will be shown to the world at large one day.

  9. It's unfortunate that so many of the Mega Man related things are just the old 8 bit pixel stuff again. I get why, but still.

    1. It’s like Capcom denies they ever made any Mega Man stuff past 8 bit. Personally I’m sick of the 8 bit stuff, don’t get me wrong I love the original games but even most fan games aren’t moving past 8 bit.

    2. I give fan games a pass because it's easy to work with that style and making fan games is already tough enough. Plus I have a hard time holding it against fans when Capcom themselves are so resistant to moving forward.

      Speaking of Capcom though, it's gotten to the point where I feel like they have actively hampered the growth and potential of the series by refusing to move forward and try bigger things with it too often.

      I love the original games too, but I want to see what can be done with that formula If they push it forward. Including with things like the graphical style. I'm not asking for AAA budget. 11 was a good start. But it also felt like a step that should have happened a decade before it did.

    5. Yeah apparently Mega Man.EXE is 2 inches taller than Lan (142.8cm vs 148cm)... I always thought they were the same height based on official art. Actually, Lan is even shorter than Mayl (as depicted in the series 142.8 vs 143.7). His dad got some height to him though, so maybe there's hope.
