Secret Level Mega Man - First Look at Bomb Man, New Trailer on 11/29

Amazon's official Secret Level website has been gradually releasing new content ahead of the show's December 10 premiere. The Mega Man page now includes a very brief clip featuring our first detailed look at Bomb Man, who briefly appeared in a screenshot last week.

The clip shows Bomb Man powering up as he looms over Mega Man. A scientist—either an unaware Dr. Light or a scheming Dr. Wily—installs a power source that corrupts Bomb Man, triggering a destructive rage.

The episode's description reads: "An icon is born. As the corrupted creations of genius inventor Dr. Light rampage through Mega City, the humblest of his inventions dreams of fighting for everlasting peace."

If you scroll down a bit on the site, clicking the "Enter Codes Here" icon leads to a page with clickable tiles that reveal logos of series featured in Secret Level and the release dates for their episode trailers. Mega Man's tile, located in the third row, second from the right, lists November 29, 2024—just a week away. This marks the trailer debut for the Mega Man episode.

  1. Sounds like this might be a retelling of Mega Man's origins in Mega Man 1

  2. Oh, I guessed right lol. I dig his design, it's like a more mecha like robot and I think that's neat!

  3. Wait, Bomb Man's really that big? Someone else guessed (apparently correctly) it was Bomb Man. I know he's not super short, but I never thought of him as big what, 10-12 feet tall?

    1. Yeah, idk why he's that big either, usually Gutsman is the biggun.

    2. I was going to say that, yeah. I think he was about that big in that fan film from a while back? I didn't really watch it since that sort of thing doesn't interest me.

      Delete
    3. I think it's clear that he's at least 20-30 feet tall here, which is muuuuch bigger than anything that would make for a fun battle to view in my opinion. I want to see MM fighting Robot Masters close to his size, not entire-building sized robots. Bosses that big are reserved for the Wily Stage bosses for a reason, because it makes them seem more daunting than Robot Masters.

All of this is to be expected. American companies have never understood the series at all. But either way, I'll tune in and hope they keep enough of the themes so that it at least feels like it's part of the series.

    4. Yeah, 20-30ft is probably more accurate. I wasn't eyeballing it properly.

  4. Huh, so it was Bomb Man.

I mean I can’t complain too much, I love Bomb Man. I’ll miss his bomb belly, though.

Yes, he's taller than he should be and is lacking a face, but for the most part has the same color-scheme, proportions, and even the distinctive "mohawk".

Sorry, but Mega Man isn't getting a Netflix special in 2024 and the appeal it needs to continue living on in media by catering to the few thousand diehard fans who only want to see the Super Sentai-style, spandex underwearing robots from 1980s Japan. Yes, I'd love nothing more than a 100% faithful recreation of the Blue Bomber from my childhood, but I also know things change.

You can either take a chill pill and enjoy it for what it is, or don't watch it and come on here to wail about it (which is what this comment section is known for anyway).

    2. "but I also know things change."

And it's always assumed the change is for the better. Which it very often is not. You'll learn, one day. I guarantee that.

      Delete
    3. I mean, they could at least TRY a proper adaptation sometime. Not this of course, but just in general.

Its had enough appeal to last as long as it has despite the way the series has been managed after all.

      Delete
    4. I can deal with the redesign, I just hope he’ll get to be an actual character. “Small Tranaformer size” plus “doesn’t have a real face” is all the makings of “soulless, voiceless entity with no agency of its own.”

      Delete
    5. Nah, people don't need to just accept everything. Wanting a design being true to the source material isn't being a purist, it's wanting the people making the show to respect the character designs and quit redesigning everything just because they can.

      Delete
    6. People are like super extreme. The opening comment is so ridiculous, it's like "just accept change" like what does that.even mean? There's levels to that.

What's even the point in adapting Mega Man if it strays so far away from what it was? Like just make something new at that point, Just let it die. You say it's still close to Bomb Man but like one random person thought it was before properly straight name dropping it. In fact people still wouldn't know that it's Bomb Man If you remove the context. At best, it'll be like it's a vaguely Bomb Man inspired robot from like Big Hero 6 or some Pixar movie or something.

Mega Man 11 is a design change that's adapting to modern day. This is like a near total overhaul. I don't get why people even use the series if they don't want to appeal to the series past establishments? What is even the point?

I love how these modern-day people always find a way to undercut the legacy too, while trying to make their point about "adapting to change" or whatever.

      Delete
    7. I'm the original commenter so let me expound a things a bit more.

First of all, I never said these changes are for the better, simply that we shouldn't lose our minds over them. "Bomb Man is going to be 20ft tall instead of 6ft! The horror!". This is not a total overhaul. At least from what we can tell, it's going to be an origin story that involves Rock being transformed by Dr. Light into Mega Man after the lab gets attacked and the Robot Masters stolen. Now, comparing it to TV, does that sound closer to Ruby Spears, or Fully Charged? Which one of those was the total overhaul?

Robot Master height is not what makes Mega Man, Mega Man. Nearly every piece of media other than the games has taken liberty with the characters. This "Make it 100% faithful or not at all" attitude would have resulted in us getting nothing other than the games over the past 35 years. I'm over 40 and I suspect most of you are in roughly the same age bracket and I personally wouldn't want that. No, I don't want something that makes a mockery of the source material, but I'm also pragmatic.

Also, I find it amusing that some of the attacks on this are that it looks "Disney". Folks, have you taken a step back and actually looked at the premise of Mega Man? It's straight out of a Saturday morning kids show. Goofy mad scientist reprograms colorful, unintimidating robots to take over the world, leading a young boy to step up and stop them. Bomb Man was made to help humans with demolition projects, by literally chucking black, shiny ball-shaped bombs? Some of you want a 100% faithful recreation without looking like it's for kids. It's so contradictory lol. Just enjoy it for what it is.

    8. I've seen people piss and moan that the RS series made Proto and Mega Man look like western superheroes. Some people take it more seriously than others.

I appreciate you explaining yourself. Legit.

I'm only 35 and didn't grow up playing the MM games.

      Delete
    9. @8:30 am, you are severely overreacting just because a lot of us don't like these redesigns. Redesigning everything is not a requirement, what don't you understand about that?

Sure you might be eager to accept anything and everything but some of us still have standards. And again let me remind you, no that isn't being a purist.

      Delete
    10. You can dislike the design. Hell, I don’t even like it that much. But to act like it’s a damning abomination that looks nothing like Bomb Man is laughable. It definitely looks more like Bomb Man than EXE, and arguably even Ruby Spears. It’s a blatant double standard where a new take isn’t permitted a fraction of the creative freedom of older takes.

And further still, even if SL Bomb Man actually looked nothing like Bomb Man - let’s say, PharaohMan.EXE but green, with Bass’s head and solar panels for arms - it still wouldn’t matter, because that has no bearing on how Bomb Man has appeared. He will still be the familiar yellow and red robot in MM1, Wily Wars, MM’s Soccer, SAR, ad nauseam.

      Delete
    11. I get that everybody loves to attack EXE but anyone who says this looks closer to Bombman.EXE is completely out of touch and making a false equivalency.

Bombman.EXE isn't a retelling or adaptation of Bomb Man. It's a completely different take or character heavily inspired by Bomb Man. It's a counterpart to Bomb Man If anything. So if people are truly like -'man that doesn't look jack s*** like Bomb Man'-, they can be like -'well that doesn't represent him well, try again I guess'-. Ignore it, since it's irrespective of Bomb Man and it doesn't act as a direct standin for the actual character. Or lastly accept it as a completely bizarre take on Bomb Man meant for a completely different series and lore.

This giant robot thing is not called Mecha Bomb Man or BombMan PiX from Mega Man PiX or something, where we can distinguish the specific canon and direct to it/parse it easily. It is just Bomb Man point blank, meant to "adapt" the original canon as seen in a series representing other game series in the same way. And people clearly take it as such, since instead of people being like, -'well this is just their take on it, It has nothing to do with actual Bomb Man just ignore it if you don't like it'-. They are like 'accept the change, old Bomb Man design wouldn't work today, they had to update it'. They have to say that because clearly this series is trying to represent the main canon as a one shot, especially considering the other series in it, and how it advertises itself.

And also. If the (false equivalent) logic is Battle Network is problematic because it's nothing to do with the rest of the series and misrepresents it, why would you then use it as a example to defend this adaptation???

I mean people are seriously saying that Mega Man X should be taken in the same light as this redesign. Like how far gone are people with their reasoning?

The closest comparison to this is something like Ruby Spears Mega Man or something, or maybe Fully Charged or whatever it's called. But no one thinks Ruby Spears is an accurate representation of the main series, they just like it for its quirks/uniqueness and take it as a spin-off anyway (and label it Ruby Spears to distinguish it). Fully Charged doesn't even pretend to represent the main canon in a direct way. It clearly takes itself as a spin-off as well. But even then, if people didn't like Fully Charged, they can just rejected it and it would fail (which is what happened). I'm sure if fully charged was just as unique but appealing, it would have succeeded. That's why saying stuff like "accept change" or something like that doesn't make sense. It's either it resonates or doesn't, change is not a value in and of itself.

      Delete
    12. @3:09

I never said *any* series was “problematic.” I think BN, SL, and any series are perfectly valid adaptations. I was only comparing their Bomb Man designs.

For the rest of your comment, idk what to say. RS Bomb Man is Bomb Man, BombMan.EXE is Bomb Man, and SL Bomb Man is Bomb Man. If they weren’t, they wouldn’t have that name (though SL Bomb Man hasn’t actually been named yet…).

Man, I’m just glad people are talking about Bomb Man so much, regardless of the reason!

      Delete
    13. Yeah, Bomb Man's "Mutos Reploid" look indicates he probably won't get the bond with Rock that exists in canon.

      Delete
    14. @9:03: I'd say this Bombman is more like the pseudoroids from ZX than the Mutos Reploids.

      Delete
    15. BombMan.EXE is BombMan.EXE not Bomb Man. Ruby Spears and this one I'll leave that up to other people to argue, but EXE is a completely different character inspired by Bomb Man. Since the other ones are Bomb Man in name and are adaptations instead of counterparts I can't really argue for them in the same way.

      Delete
    16. “Inspired by” Bomb Man?! Rush is inspired by Friender from Casshern. Ray from Gravity Circuit is inspired by Magma Man. BombMan.EXE *is* Bomb Man! Is this like in Star Wars shows where they say “inspired by Star Wars” at the credits?

I swear, y’all get too myopic sometimes.

      Delete
    17. Isn't Friender also the name of the blue dogs in Wood Man's stage?

      Delete
    18. Both can be true at the same time. That is another false equivalency. I have no idea if those other things were inspired by anything or not. Inspired is a motivation and state of being. But if they are, in terms of design and concept, then they are in the EXACT same way as BombMan.EXE is to Bomb Man. Completely different things, of which one draws design elements from the other.

BombMan.EXE isn't even a Robot Master, he is a Net Navi... What does that Star Wars question have to do with anything? We are talking about definitions not technicalities in crediting conventions. I don't see Friender from Cassern in any credits of Mega Man games that have Rush/Friender enemies in them either, or Mega Man in any of the credits for many games it "inspired". Also that question is a complete red herring.

    19. Whatever man. You seem content drowning in your own fandom. While we’re at it, Neo Metalls are completely distinct and unrelated from Metalls.

      Delete
    20. Whatever dude. You insist on mischaracterizing and framing things with bad analogies, I have no idea what Neo Metalls are but judging by the context and past interactions, it is probably another faulty analogy.

      Delete
    21. I think Metalls are the same thing as Mettaur?

      Delete
    22. @RS Proto Man

Yeah apparently Neo Metalls are an upgrade of Metalls for and introduced in Mega Man 2 (the ones with the feet). So the logic, I guess, is insinuating I said Bomb Man and Bombman.EXE have nothing to do with each other at all as a whole.
I'm guessing this came from this statement I made

"It's a completely different take or character heavily inspired by Bomb Man."

      Without contextualizing it with.

"It's a counterpart to Bomb Man If anything."

And ignoring the fact that a take on something assumes ties to it.

I still don't know enough about Neo Metalls though, what I've read so far seems to suggest they are the same thing as Mets but upgraded. Not totally different lines of production.

  18. Ya know, I wonder if the circular area on his chest (which I assume bombs will come out of) was based off that one early concept for Bomb man, where bombs came out of a hole in his head and he’d cover his ears before they blew. Probably a stretch…

  20. You know, opinions about the appearance changes of the design aside, I feel like this kind of also has to come with a new backstory, doesn't it?

Originally Bombman was paired with Gutsman as construction themed robots. Gutsman for heavy lifting and playing the role of foreman and Bombman doing the demolitions work. THIS Bombman seems way too extreme for that role. He's so big it seems like he could only be used for large scale blasting. I don't see how this version could be used for much other than outright warfare.

    2. This whole “design purity” argument for Mega Man in particular is rather funny. I can begrudgingly accept it for something like Mario or Sonic, who have never looked all that different, even in true spin-offs like cartoons. But Mega Man? 22. I kinda don't mind the design, but I don't like him being so big. The Robot Masters were made to assist humans by doing human tasks, so why do they need to be the size of Sentinel's from X-Men in this universe?

  23. The fact they made the Robot Masters (or at least Bomb here) look like Mutos Reploids/Pseudoroids actually has a precedent in the form of Toru Nakayama artwork of RMs and Mavericks, which show them with design aesthetics closer to Mutos Reploids.

  24. Thinking about it again, if all the Robot Masters are going to be like this, what the heck is Ice Man going to look like? I don't know why that stands out so much in my mind, Elec Man and Fire Man were esentially just people in costumes too, but the stuff they have covering their faces makes it easier for my brain to picture them fully robotic. Ice Man though, is just a guy in coat.

Also curious if Time Man and Oil Man are going to be included in some way.

I think a better comparison would be Zurg from the Lightyear movie or MCU Iron Monger (I mean c'mon he literally has an arc reactor).
