Kotobukiya Temporarily Suspends Orders for MM11 Scramble Thunder & Pile Drive Kits

Kotobukiya announced today that it has suspended orders for the Mega Man 11 Scramble Thunder and Pile Drive model kits. Initially set for release in April and May 2025, the company attributed the suspension to "unforeseen circumstances."

Most Japanese online retailers have paused or removed orders for both model kits until further notice. Kotobukiya, however, assures that it will announce the reopening of pre-orders as soon as possible. Nothing is cancelled-- don't worry!

Were you planning to add these model kits to your collection? Share your thoughts in the comments!

    1. It's probably production issues and nothing to worry about, just a delay it happens sometimes.

  7. The Rockman 11 kit is probably the best, most well-designed kit Kotobukiya has released since they started Rockman kits. It's one of my favorite figures in my (sizable) collection, and was the least frustrating kit to build since their base X figure. I was considering these, but with my current backlog of kits to build, and the fact that most of the kits I have built from this series were not a total joy to assemble ... I'll probably pass.

Koto is still insanely overpriced, too. One of my recent pickups was the Tron Model DX Astro Boy, which comes in a giant (bigger than PG Gundam-sized, with handle) box; it includes two sets of "armor" for (a twice Koto Rockman-scale at 30cm) Astro, 6 pre-painted face plates, an articulated display table, stickers/transfers, and multiple light-up features ... for $80.

If Koto's Rockman kits were around $35 (like the first 4 Rockman kits were) I'd be all-in on every single one, even with their spotty design/build issues, but when way smaller companies (Tron Model, Meng, Eastern Model, etc.) offer objectively better kits -- better engineering, more features, more accessories, bigger (Meng's Evas) for under $100 ... it's hard to justify Koto's prices.

    1. Fr, like bro I can't justify the prices of these kits especially when other options (Jada and MDLX) are less expensive yet better quality.

    2. nice i have question do you think the astro is worth it and how is the plastic does it snap easly

    3. I think it’s endemic of the Japanese hobby market as a whole, especially licensed product. The 30MM Armored Core kits seem like worse value than regular 30MM, and that’s Bandai. Probably no coincidence that the yen is so bad now.

Yeah, the kits are definitely not cheap, but in Koto's defense, the original line was released in late 2010, early 2011. Accounting for inflation that's about $50 today. Now, the $70-80 that most of today's kits run are obviously more, but they are hands-down more elaborate, with more pieces, complex designs, and accessories that the original line didn't really have.

    5. I get the inflation argument, but it doesn't address the point that smaller model companies are currently offering bigger kits with more features and accessories for the same price.

Licensing could be a factor, but it really seems like Koto's prices are inflated across a lot of their products. Example: if we compare their Bishoujo line to Good Smile's Pop-Up parade we see the same thing; almost twice the price for what seems to be the same size and quality of product.

Yen being down is a factor, but these Rockman kits actually start at around the equivalent of US$40 on Koto's Japanese website, yet start at US$70 on KotoUS. Does Kotobukiya really need a 75% mark-up just to import them via their own overseas portal?

The Tron Model Astro Boy kit has excellent quality plastic. I'm not sure what you're looking for by asking how easily it snaps, but it doesn't feel brittle or cheap; it's a quality model kit, and easily on-par with a Bandai kit costing twice as much.

  8. Koto may be expensive but you get options no other lines provide thus the price. Not justifying the price but should that be an issue considering how much Capcom has been leading you by the nose for decades? Cant honestly complain about price when basic respect left the deal from the start.. MegaMan fans lost far more note worthy things then simple over priced plastic. And consumers that see respect less then price ultimately pay more because no one that respects you tries to take an arm with purchase. Just accept the future and pay the price or let it go because fighting is no longer an option lol.

    1. Jada and MDLX offer plenty of options too and for less. And also I don't have to fight anything, I just won't buy the product when I don't think it's worth the money.

Did you get the MDLX Rockman figure? I got mine, and think it's awesome, especially for the price. Die-cast (magnetized!) feet and multiple die-cast ball pegs are *ahem* Rock solid.

    3. You all can magnetize koto models lol. You can even Gold Silver or Copper plate them. The more impressive options for koto models exist for more experienced hobbiests. Cant argue about price and size for all that work being done for those who dont got the time and or experience. But that's why koto coats more they know people with more money will customize while 1st base takes what it gets.

    4. Some mad-lads plated their kits in color. They look awesome. I'm kinda jealous (though I prefer the non-plated look anyway)

    5. Though, honestly, I am not sure they are electro plated or just painted. You can get a metallic finish by painting silver and then putting a coat of clear red/blue/green, etc on top of it.

Yeah, those of us who build model kits know we can glue magnets onto plastic, "LOL," thanks.
"dont got the time and or experience," and "koto coats (sic) more they know people with more money" seriously: get over yourself. Some of us build models and collect figures. You sound super insecure, and about what: video game figure model kits and action figures?

    7. @shrap
MegaVato has these electro-plated (technically, plastic vapor deposition, also known as "vac-metal") and assembled by someone in Taiwan. He mentions is in the comments, and I've heard him mention it in his videos.

You said: "I am not sure..." so I filed-in the gaps. What's with the assumption of hostility?
What is with all the sensitivity here ... in a forum about brightly-colored plastic models?

    11. Mega vato also scalps Rockman model kits.

      Delete
    12. @7:55 PM: I can also do that to a Jazwares figure, that doesn't mean anything. I can customize anything technically, but that doesn't mean the initial product was great in quality. Also not everyone has the time and money for that.

@6:20 PM: I don't, actually (I plan on getting X and their eventual Zero though). But I've heard nothing but good things about it and the Jada figures, so I elected to use them for comparison (especially since they're also recent offerings like Koto's kits).

    13. "Mega vato also scalps Rockman model kits."

Then don't buy from him. Who asked? Who cares? What does that have to do with him out-sourcing his builds for his own collection?

What is wrong with this forum? There's so much inane hostility here.

    14. Why do you have a problem with a scalper getting exposed?
