UPDATE: Backup link to the patch
AlyssonDaPaz's 16-bit Mega Man X8 demake recently launched to positive reception, though many fans expressed a strong desire for more playable characters beyond X. In response, a user named Zashiko is developing a mod to add Axl to the game.
Although still a work-in-progress, a version of the patch is available on the X8 Demake Mod Discord server. Once installed, players can enjoy a fully playable 16-bit Axl, complete with all his abilities from the original game, including multi-directional shots and the Copy Shot, which works on Mechaniloids as well as Reploids. You can see him in action in the video above!
For updates and future releases, you can follow the mod’s progress on the Discord server.
This was a great fangame. Amazing work overall. I especially liked the way the boss fights and weapons were updated. The stage designs were also overall better, but I would say the satisfaction I had playing the game was only slightly more than when I played the original X8. As far as modding goes, I think what I would be most interested in is a new 16-bit demade soundtrack.
ReplyDeleteHmmm... I like the sound of that...

I like the sound of this... Stay tuned
DeleteWith the model kit, and now finally getting to be in a good game, this almost feels like an impromptu “Year of Axl.” Not complaining.
ReplyDeleteIt's kind of frustrating that Capcom makes a generally well received X series character with Axl and they have done nothing with him since 2004 or 2005. The model kit though, I'd have to say is pretty cool. This mod so far looks well done, I'm glad the fans are still making Mega Man games and mods.
DeleteWell, I mean the problem was the over saturation on that time that really capcom was having trouble to make megaman games good, I really wished Axl could had his own series if MegaMan X8 sales were good in japan. I really hope Axl still gets new figures and if possible get more representation over the years to come, he doesn't deserve the hate many fans have against him and still I don't see why he's so hated just because Capcom USA did the worst on Voice Acting doesn't mean the character deserves to be hated.
DeleteThat reminds me: Is Axl supposed to be 12 years old? Cuz that sounds like what they were going for.
DeleteX had a female voice at first too, but he wasn't supposed to sound *that* young either. Though Axl is supposed to be more immature, his voice from X8/CM is very Sonic-coded.
DeleteI think X and Zero are supposed to be 17 years old, regardless of how long they were in stasis or what-have-you. That's why I'm confused about Axl.
DeleteI am well-aware of males being voiced by females, and vice versa, though.
Delete"I think X and Zero are supposed to be 17 years old, regardless of how long they were in stasis or what-have-you. That's why I'm confused about Axl."
DeleteYou mean the moment they woke up they were 17? Since many years pass between awakening and X8. I later learned that contrary to what I thought before, that X1 takes place maybe quite a few years after he woke up vs shortly after. Seemingly X3 takes place years after X2 if the dialog between X3 Vile and X is canon vs just English, and I can imagine a decent amount of time between X3 and X4 since Sigma's viral self was seemingly quite damaged at the end of X3 (oh, and Xtreme 2 is in between too). And it feels like a big gap of time between X6 and X7 happens (maybe X spend a few years helping rebuild some of the world), and also a big gap of time between X7 and X8 since seemingly X7 did not have an orbital elevator and only prototype Axl existed as a copy reploid, but in X8, we got an entire space elevator and other related structures and a bunch of new gens all around. I wish Capcom gave us specifics on the time gaps between each game. The only specifics I know are confirmed are 6 months between X1 and X2 and 3 weeks between X5 and X6.
@Gary Daniel
DeleteYeah, that’s part of why I don’t pay too much mind to “mental ages.” Ironically, the 20XX series has a pretty extensive breakdown of the time between the different games (which combined with the shift from 200X to 20XX and some specific dates, you can get pretty close to knowing exactly when the games happened), but Robot Masters are the least likely characters to “mentally age.”
@Gary That's fair.
Deleteim from november i can confirm they added zero
DeleteMy boi Axl getting some love, hopefully someone will make a Zero mod
ReplyDeleteI'm sure it'll happen in the next few months, someone will add Zero.
DeleteI promise it will come, man.
DeleteIf the developer of the game recreated X8 1-1 to the ps2 rather than keeping the same formula as x1-x3
ReplyDeleteThe developer wasn't going for the later style, he wanted to make it in a "what if" x1-3 style so i'm not sure what your complaint is about.
DeleteNow we just need Zero, and then the operators as skins for the main trio. Then this will feel complete.
ReplyDeleteThat’s cool. The option is nice, though I prefer X. Hopefully Zero will be added and they can take some liberties with the story to add more to it. I prefer the X1-X3 aesthetic. Honestly, I’d like to see all the games like this. Unfortunately, it seems like even if the creator could with the time, he doesn’t seem interested.
ReplyDeleteI'm also more into the x1-3 aesthetic, it would be interesting to see x4,5,6,7 done up in the same style.
DeleteSadly the link appears to be broken now, most likely due to them updating the file. Can we get an update to the current version of the mod file to be able to play as Axl in the De-Make?
ReplyDeleteFound another working link to the Axl DeMake Mod. Hope my Reploid brothers enjoy! https://www.mediafire.com/file/8zjb1mmv8kd3e9s/Mega_Man_X8_Demake_%2528Mod%2529_1.0.0.1.exe/file
