First Color Images of Kotobukiya Bass.EXE, Axl White Version Revealed

Via the official Kotobukiya website, we now have a first look at the color prototypes for the new Bass.EXE and Axl White Version model kits. Along with several new images, the designers shared insights on the development of each kit. Here are a few select comments:

Bass.EXE:

"In order to make it enjoyable even for those who are new to plastic models, the patterns on the whole body and the scar on the chest will be color-coded and painted by hand, so that simply by assembling it you can recreate Forte just like in the games and anime!

Extra effort has been made to recreate the body patterns and scar on the chest with color-separated parts. Also, the painting has been done carefully to create a kit that is fun and easy for plastic model beginners. With this model, users will be able to recreate the scenes from the anime and games, just by assembling it!"

Axl White Version:

"There were no design drawings or illustrations, so I had a hard time deciding on the color scheme from the game's polygons. In particular, I had to adjust the reddish blue on the forehead many times until I was satisfied with it.

As no concept art or reference drawings exist of White Axl, it was difficult to figure out the correct coloring from the polygons in the game. In particular, the reddish-blue part on the forehead took quite a few tries to get right."

It's worth noting that while Axl's model features his alternate X8 color scheme, the design itself is based on his original X7 appearance. Kotobukiya might not be ready to take on the X8 designs with their different proportions just yet, but this is a promising step in that direction.

No details on pre-orders or release dates for either kit have been announced yet. Stay tuned!

    1. I have the same feeling. I think it's because of the proportions. His body needs to be longer or his head needs to be smaller. He looks like he is the size of Megaman Exe

    2. I think the bits on his legs are throwing everything off since they're a bit bulky.

    3. He's too tall and too thin. Hands and feetn especially. Him and exe both needed more thickness

    4. There are other good figures of him, you just haven't looked.

  2. Axl Fans eating good after long time with no new figures, just the Jazwares and ones from Yamato X8 Capcom Figure Collection, I'm really excited to get in my hands both White and Normal Versions and Hopefully Mizuno make a new Artwork for his White Form that would be the first original art piece of White Axl (ignoring the one from maverick hunters guide/book). Still hoping to see the strange silhouette from the stream but I guess it will be still a surprise hopefully not too far.

  3. With the sudden reveal of White Axl, that means an Ultinate Armor X is coming soon...right? Makes sense since Axl and Zero are now covered in that department.

    1. Probably. Would not be surprised. It would be a fun build.

I'll definitely get White Axl. Probably Forte. I am not sold yet on the MM8 Weapon kits... I don't particularly care about those designs. I might. I might not. Too much stuff on the docket... Only saving grace is where are a half a year out.

    2. How do you think they would handle UAX? I was thinking pieces that have prints or line work of the inner workings and clear parts that snap over them.

    3. No clue.
But maybe something like this would work:
      https://www.bigbadtoystore.com/Product/VariationDetails/261945?o=7

The way Sentinal did the face visor details looks pretty good. That would be a nice touch on the UAX. Different company, though.

    4. Oh yeah, I could see something like that working well.

    5. I hope they do a ultimate armor, I've always preferred it over the 4th armor since I was a kid when I first discovered the ultimate armor code in x4.

    6. I've said it before and I will say it again, the X4 Ultimate is the the one they should make first, but I really want to see the Legacy Collection white and blue. It just looks really good. In about a decade, I am sure we will get all four colors.

  4. I’m glad to see more Axl weapons coming already, though I would’ve rather just a weapon pack instead of a whole other figure.

Also, I *think* this might be the first quasi-official use of the name “White Axl.”

    1. I'd rather have weapon and accessory packs as well instead of having to the same $70-80 model over again. They do it with their other model lines.

  5. Nooo! I was already saving up for regular Axl! Now I have to save also money the white version... D:

    1. Just so you know, White Axl isn't supposed to have a scar on his face.

      Delete
    2. Actually, White Axl *does* still have the scar, it’s just very light and faded. Though I think omitting it wholesale was the best choice here, the design is already abstracted, being on the non-X8 body.

      Delete
    3. We have 0 artwork to base that on. Are you sure? Its implied the White Axl is Lumine (who has no scars).

      Delete
    4. @shrap

You can see it on the face texture. But honestly, I don’t think it was intentional, more like they just tweaked the face in an image editor until it was *mostly* gone.

      Delete
    5. Ok, so I double checked the textures, and there is a *VERY* faded scar on his face, but considering that it's barely noticeable in game and that the skin is based on Lumine (who as Shrap mentioned has no scars) I think it might've been intended for Whitey here not to have any scars and they were unable to remove the outline of the scar from the face texture.

    6. That’s a bold statement, since SEGA CD sucks triceratops shit. Except Terminator, that game’s alright.

    7. Funny thing though, I had a sort of Mandela effect moment when seeing athis kit and this comment because I remembered looking at the textures a long time ago (cause I think they're neat) and seeing the super faded scar on his face, but when I checked this time I looked at the renders instead which made it much harder to see the scar, so I thought I had remembered something wrong lol. Thanks for reminding me about the fact that it's there but just really faded.

      Delete
    8. Hmm... its so faded... it might as well not be there.
Well, one could always paint it if one was that concerned. Assuming its not prepainted super faded.

    10. @Jack Spore *And Sonic CD.

    11. Yes Sonic CD is good too. Though I didn’t mention it since I feel that game’s legacy has gone far beyond the SEGA CD. Even by the end of the 90’s, it was available on computers.

I’m surprised no one mentioned that the reply went to the wrong comment. >_>’

    12. I didn't feel the need to mention it lol

    13. @Jack Spore Sega CD had some solid titles. Popful Mail, Lunar 2, Ecco 1 & 2 (the CD quality music really makes the games, the genesis version sounds awful). I'd like a remake of sewer shark

    14. I’ve had a passing interest in Ecco the Dolphin, if only because it’s one of the only other soundtracks by Spencer Nilsen (US Sonic CD is the better soundtrack please fight me).

Also Night Trap was retooled from a game for a canceled Hasbro VHS console, which I find endlessly fascinating.

Fight you? I’m sorry, uh… I’m not sure that I’m comfortable with the secret move, “I’m gonna kick you in the jimmy” for that former PE teacher.

  8. Well! By my watch, we're coming close to the end of everything that's been announced from January's showcase. Which means...sooner or later, we're going to find exactly whatever this (https://www.rockman-corner.com/2024/01/sigma-forteexe-more-revealed-in.html) is...

    1. I think the best way to reveal it could be december, it feels kinda obvious that design has something to do with more deeper stuff that Capcom is saving for later than another Kit, cuz if Kotobukiya just made another kit with no meanings behind they had already shown the prototype of that silhouette. but who knows honestly.

  9. I appreciate their mention of focusing on increasing out-of-box color separation for Forte, as it's about time Kotobukiya started paying attention to those smaller details.

I saw a WonderFest Sigma garage kit with a cloth cape, and I wish Kotobukiya would go that direction for caped/cloaked figures like Forte here.

  10. For toy standards, this is based. Ultimate armor X is cool and all, but how many companies can say they made an official toy of White Axl?

    1. There was a white armor Axl figure around 2005 released in Japan. There hasn't exactly been a ton of ultimate armor figures either.

  11. The White Axl looks really cool ngl, it's interesting how this is an X8 design but done in the regular X style. Bass.Exe is neat too and I like how he has the stripes pre painted!

  12. Bass.EXE is my favorite Mega Man character from any series, hands down. Very excited! Wouldn't be surprised if we get a Bass XX variant if there was going to be one. His release makes me want a Protoman.EXE to complete the quintessential characters from EXE in my book.

White Axl is a surprise! That G-Launcher and Ray Gun are nice pack ins! Don't mind at all that they stuck with his X7 design.

Yes, now we need an Ultimate Armor X to complete that circle!

  13. SEGA mega CD add-on IS BETTER than Mega Man.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. In what way are those 2 things even comparable? One is an add-on to a video game console to make it play CDs and the other is a video game series that has been on multiple platforms over the years. How can you say one is better than the other when both of the products you are comparing were designed to do different things?

    3. Maybe they misread it as "Mega Drive." :3c Nah, I think they're just having a giggle.
