The first model kit from Kotobukiya set for release in 2025 is Black Zero, now available for pre-order exclusively through Big Bad Toystore. More retailers are expected to carry the kit in the coming days as well.
In the meantime, you can check out some images and the model kit specifications after the break!
"Zero, one of the most popular characters in the series, unleashes his power as Black Zero!
From the Mega Man X series, Zero—the Maverick Hunter, dependable mentor, and friend to the protagonist X—is appearing in his powered-up form, Black Zero, for the first time as a plastic model kit.
Thanks to the technology of CAD engineering, the character’s proportions, which are based on the character’s appearance in the game, are faithfully recreated while maintaining an impressive range of articulation that allows users to recreate a variety of scenes from the games!
Zero's iconic weapon, the Z-Saber, comes with four different clear blade effect parts that can light up when used with a Milight 316 (a lithium-ion battery with an LED attached, sold separately)!
Both clear blue and red parts have been included for the forehead, so users can recreate Fake Zero from Mega Man X2.
An interchangeable neck and twisted waist are newly added to recreate realistic dash poses. They can also be combined with effect parts to recreate Zero's Rakuhouha pose!
The kit also comes with a short hair part for an even wider range of dynamic poses.
Also, use the bonus twisted waist part and short hair in Zero’s color to update the Zero models in your collection!
Other included accessories such as the Buster, hand parts, three interchangeable facial expressions, and the Z-Saber make this model kit perfect for recreating many different situations from the games."
Model Specifications:

- The Buster can be equipped to the model's left or right arm.

After the release of Black Zero, the next model kits to be released will be Mega Man 11's Pile Driver and Scramble Thunder, Bass.EXE and Sigma. Let's not forget the mysterious model kit hinted in January, about which we know absolutely nothing.
Looks pretty damn good.
ReplyDeleteNice. Been waiting for this one.
ReplyDeleteIf I had one (well, 2) criticisms, its that it could use a face plate with red eyes (it's tough to tell) and an alternate hair piece for Nightmare Zero too.
Free advice for Kotobukiya:
DeleteTry making some of those accessory kits for these things. I'd pay you a few extra buck for alternate hair parts for Nightmare Zero. They could make heart containers, weapons, etc and sell them for sub $20.
Another thing: If they are gonna market these as compatible with New Flying Base.... Have New Flying Base available to purchase (easily).
Accessory kits would be wonderful. Seconding this.
DeleteI also would love accessory kits over having to buy the same kit for a certain part. They do accessory kits for other series models so it’s not like they haven’t done them before.
DeleteAs nice as it looks, I still think it's an overpriced kit by Koto, so I won't be getting it unless there's a good deal on it.
ReplyDeleteWhat really sucks is it’s limited edition at this point, this just screams fomo to me. Hopefully it gets a full retail release eventually like the charge shot x and gold hyper chip x did.
DeleteI'm getting real tired of limited release stuff (glares at "PrEmIuM" Bandai)
DeleteI'm having that same issue right now with Godzilla -1 Limited JP Edition BluRay. Missed my window by a few days. Damn good movie, by the way.
DeleteI'm definitely sick of everything being limited these days, model kits, video games, Blu rays.
DeleteKotobukiya's online shop which is linked here only ships to Japan, and that's a shame because it's the equivalent of US$56 without tax; you don't usually have to pay tax internationally; even after international shipping it would be cheaper than BBTS.
ReplyDeleteHopefully this will pop-up on their KOTOUS portal soon, but it will still be US$70, and that's before domestic tax and shipping; we're probably looking at another $80-$90+ model kit here hen the dust settles. Ugh. I wish I could get the proxy buyers to get this, or from Amazon Japan.
dope!!!
ReplyDeleteYo. This cool.
ReplyDeleteThe solid hair piece this kit has is what the other two zero kits should have had in the first place.
ReplyDeletedang just preordered normal zero reissiue
ReplyDeletenevermind they refunded him no zero for me thanks playasia
DeleteYour saying PlayAsia cancelled your order, I assume?
DeleteTry Koto directly. They still have it.

I wonder if they have fixed the ankle joint issue of the feet not wanting to stay on when posed like the previous 2 releases had?
ReplyDeleteIt would have been nice if they included the regular non thumbs up saber holding hand as well that X includes.
ReplyDeleteI have to buy this kit to fix regular Zero's hair?! Why do these guys hate my wallet so much?!?!?!
ReplyDeleteAs nice as these kits are, that annoys me as well. Koto could easily sell the optional parts as accessory packs like they do with their other add on kits for models. The hollow hair on the regular red Zero and nightmare Zero looks terrible in comparison to the new improved hair.
DeleteI do like the new hair... But it's like Kotobukiya just can't get it right. One is hollow. The other too short. the too short one is better, and might look good if angled differently. It just looks too short in all the demo pics.
Delete@shrap, looks about d arts length to me. It may not be the right hair length but the kit shouldn't be as much of a pain to pose as the regular edition is with this new hair piece. Hopefully they fixed those terrible ankle joints as well.
DeleteMaybe it's the fullness of the hair? I checked and they are the same length, but hoo boy the first version had a huge problem with the hair piece breaking off. I haven't had it happen with the black one yet.
DeleteI wonder if anyone could just 3d print some custom Zero hair? Doesn't seem like it would be too hard, but I don't have a 3d printer.
ReplyDeleteI think Shrap has some experience with 3D printing. Maybe he knows?
DeleteYou can 3D print hair, sure. The trick is having a model to print. I don't have the skills to make hair. Some other 3D modellers in the community might be better suited to that.
DeleteYou don't need a personal 3D printer. There are 3rd party websites like Shapeways where you could load your file and order them. Relatively cheap, too and without the layer line breakage an FDM printer has.
One piece of advice, though, is if you use Shapeways you are charged a handling fee for every part. Therefore, if you order multiple parts, you can lower the cost by combining them on a "runner" like normal model kits so they load as a single part. For that you will need some support.
You know what? Screw it. I'm gonna make this my next project.
DeleteI was considering maybe getting the Mega Armor series Zero hair 3d scanned and upsized and updated to fit the Koto kit. There has to be a cheaper workaround for guys who don't want to pay $80 for another Zero recolor that has better hair.
DeleteHere is a rough draft of some Zero hair.
Deletehttps://imgur.com/a/MJt9CQY
Still a lot of work to do, though. I am using the wrong tools for the job, so it is not all that great. We shall see...
...OK, here it is. Something I have been wanting to do for a few years now.
DeleteCUSTOM KOTOBUKIYA ZERO HAIR.
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6752772
It's not perfect. It needs some work to make it a better print and improve the look a tad. But as a first draft prototype, it will get the job done. Refer to thingiverse for the specifics. But, right now, it will only work with a thin hollow FDM print. Printing out of nylon or resin will make it a solid piece and probably too heavy. Solid PLA with 45% infill was too heavy. The settings must be tweaked to make it print light enough to work.
@shrap, I appreciate the rough draft for the Zero hair. It already looks like a improvement over the stock hollow Zero hair.
DeleteYay, more limited edition Fomo bs. This should be a regular retail release not a limited Koto store exclusive.
ReplyDeleteOther than the hair, are there any other changes to this Zero kit compared to the red and nightmare versions?
ReplyDeleteJust extra waist parts and a red head gem.
DeleteDont expect revised ankles. They would market that.
It doesn't really sound worth it if they haven't fixed the ankles.
