ThreeZero MDLX Mega Man X Revealed

Spotted at ThreeZero's Anime Expo booth, here's our very first look at MDLX Mega Man X. The figure currently has no release date. You can see how it scales with the previous MDLX classic series Mega Man after the break!

Please note that, although it might not appear so at the moment, the final figure will be highly articulated. Details on accessories and pricing are not yet available.

That's really all there is to say at the moment. Hang tight for updates.

Thanks to Andrew_NG for the pics!

  2. They gotta fix the size. He should be 5inch at least. I hope it gets changed before it releases.

    1. It says "pending licensor approval," so, yes, it could change. This is a non-articulated model like the first time we saw ThreeZero's Rockman figure, and it's a digital sculpt, so scaling it up won't be difficult. Companies like this prefer to wait for approval from IP holders before investing time and money into engineering the articulation.

    2. It wont change scale. I that never happens.

    3. Enough voices help. Look at mvc collection.

    4. You'll see. Those voices aren't there. They will not loose enough sales due to scale, and that's the only reason they would care. That scale they shown was not an accident, that's the size for the price range they plan to meet. No voices made a difference when it came to Sentinel's line being out of scale. Kotobukiya is a very popular line, one can assume, and they didn't care about scaling at all. To date, only Bandai managed to get the scaling right, and not even on all lines.

The licensor is Capcom. Capcom does not care what the scale is. Their approval is pending on the likeness, most likely. A formality since Capcom approves seemingly anything.

    5. Not all MDLX figures are the same size, so you're not right about the scale being related to the price-point.
Sentinel's line of figures were specifically 4-inch figures, which is why those were not in-scale between X and Rock.

  3. I would prefer if they had another Classic character before immediately going straight to the X series. Watch the next figure be Zero.

    1. Cut Man and Blues are theoretically so easy to go to because they share so many parts with Rock. I'd love a Blues in this scale with die-cast parts and a wired cloth scarf...

  4. It looks like they aren't planning to scale them correctly, x should be taller.

    1. I'd imagine it will probably be about $40-50 if going by the pricing for the Threezero original Mega Man.

      Delete
    2. That's far more affordable than Kotobukiya's model kits.

    3. To be fair: there was that Target exclusive X and Iron Man pack from 2017 by Hasbro which was like $20, so that was kind of a $10 X figure. The Jazwares figures were under $20 when they were released, too. There have been a few cheap X figures. 66 Action was under $10, and there were many X keshigomu figures for super cheap.

Let's be honest here: Kotobukiya prices are insane and greedy. You pay 3x the price of a Bandai HG kit for basically the same thing, but Kotobukiya engineering isn't as good, and the builds aren't as fun. Okay, there are licensing fees, but their kits should still be under $40, just like the original Koto Rockman kits were. (I loved those kits!) These new X kits are basically priced double those first 4 kits. Hexa Gear is a rip-off too, with those tiny governor figures being $20-$40. Their Bishoujo status are regularly over $100, but they're not really better than a Good Smile Pop Up Parade for half the price.

Anyway, I stopped buying those Kotobukiya kits after Zero. I'd like to continue to support the line, but there hasn't been a single X kit I've built that hasn't made me feel like I got ripped-off, and I never look forward to building them. (Okay, the regular/original X kit was kinda fun.) They look nice on the shelf, I guess, but I don't want to spend over $1,000 to have a "complete" set of model kits that aren't particularly fun to build. Eastern Model did a much better job with X and Zero -- more interesting build, light-up features, better design/engineering, tons of extras, even the box was better -- for less than Kotobukiya. (I'll probably still get Sigma ... just to have an articulated Sigma, but I'll bet they'll want over US$100 for it.)

If the ThreeZero MDLX Dango (which I just got) is any indication of the quality of these figures: they're going to be a steal for $40. Dango has die-cast joints, die cast armor parts, a light-up feature, effects, and excellent paint.

    4. It's not reasonable to ask a company the size of Kotobukiya to meet the same price point of Bandai, who sells way more units and has enough money to routinely build actual giant robots for tourism. Less units sold means higher prices. That's basic economics. Bandai also has a huge entertainment division to sell their models. With a much larger customer base. Kotobukiya is at a huge disadvantage.

    5. "The Jazwares figures were under $20 when they were released, too. "

I'm gonna be a jerk for a moment and say I don't think Jazwares is a good baseline for anything. Most of their toys were pretty low-quality.

      Delete
    6. Jazwares were terrible even at the $5.99 price point, especially when at the time you could easily import the bandai rockman kits for $15-20 which blew them away in quality.

      Delete
    7. The parent comment was about the "affordability" of an X figure, and said nothing of the quality. I don't think anyone would (or was trying to) argue Jazwares was good quality.

Regarding the comment about "a company the size of Kotobukiya," this was already addressed; Eastern Model is a MUCH smaller company, and they offered a vastly superior product from the Rockman license at a lower price-point. Kotobukiya has their own brick-and-mortar stores in Japan -- and not just one. They have TWO international online storefronts. Eastern Model doesn't have any of these, and, once again, offered a better product for a lower price. Yeah, we can argue about the stylized nature of those kits, and whether or not we like them, but those elements made for more complex engineering and design ... which was still offered for nearly half of what Kotobukiya wants for their X kits.

Yes, Bandai is literally the largest toy company in the world, and Kotobukiya is definitely not, but Kotobukiya is also not nearly as small as Eastern Model.

      Delete
    8. Kotobukiya is a $15 BILLION company, so let's stop talking about them as though they don't have resources, and are some kind of "little guy" in the toy industry. For comparison: Hasbro is worth just under $6 Billion. Kotobukiya is worth slightly more than LEGO, which was valued at just over $13 billion in 2023.

      Delete
    9. Uh, so I made a comment about how I also personally think Kotobukiya isn't worth the money but it didn't post lol.

Anyway, I made the initial comment cause I'm excited to see a pretty high quality figure of X getting made that (hopefully) isn't overpriced as hell. The reason I'm excited is because I have been frustrated with how all the good figures of X series characters are either overpriced (Koto) or have insanely high aftermarket prices and/or are really hard to come by (D-Arts, Sentinel, etc.). It's nice to see a decent figure of X actually be available and affordable (for me anyway) for once.

      Delete
    10. I'm excited too, Megatron X! (I agree Kotobukiya is overpriced, and not just with these X kits, but across the board.)

Especially after having some other ThreeZero figures in my collection of different scales, and from different properties: they really do great work for the prices they're asking. I hope they add a light-up feature to X; Dango is a small figure, but its (articulated!) eyes and head light-up. (He does have a huge head though.) I think ThreeZero could get a light into the X-buster, at least.

    2. There was a 4-Inch-Nel figure for Lan, but it's a non-articulated figure with extra accessories for Rockman.EXE
I think Lan is too skinny at that scale to have articulation.

    3. I thought so but I couldn’t remember for sure about the nel, they are all extremely overpriced at this point though. Like I’d love to own a few nels but not at $200+ a piece. Wasn’t there also a smaller non poseable 2-3 inch Lan figure at one point?

    5. It's extremely hard to justify $200+ for a 4 inch figure.

  9. In X8 with Zero saying that they'll have to fight not only Irregulars but also their destinies in the ending, I'm starting to wonder if this might involve the Human Council. I think they might be the ones that ordered to resume the production of copy chips post ending. They are originally from the manga. It's one of those things that was from the manga but then Capcom adopted as part of the canon if I recall correctly. A Rockman Online trailer had them portrayed suspicious and potentially evil.

For something different, Hi-GO theorized that the way the Zero games are portrayed are not how the events of that era exactly happened but rather that they are reconstructions, approximations of what might have happened made by the people of the ZX era with surviving records from back then. According to Aizu the three remaining Four Heavenly Kings in Neo Arcadia's official archives don't show any records after Omega's incident however it's possible that they continued to function beyond Neo Arcadia's sensors making them "officially dead", but possibly alive. This would fit with the theory with ZX's civilization assuming they died there, but they could've died somewhere else or still be alive.

Did you know Cyber-Elf in its kanji reading "電子妖精" translates to Cyber/Electronic Fairy? I was always puzzled why they were called elves when they looked like fairies. Turns out, that they both come from the same kanji "妖精" so it really is the "Fairy Wars", "妖精戦争". There could be multiple reasons why they're called elves instead of fairies. From the Japanese not knowing the difference between fairy and elf to them thinking they're interchangeable like in Japanese to save space for the text to simply thinking it would sound cooler when written in English.

    1. Dash 3 introducing its own Axl copy in Barrett might fit Hi-GO's theory except it would need to be a variation of it. A part I didn't mention before it's that Hi-GO's theory has some meta connotations. For example, the Resistance escaping Neo Arcadia to find Zero is akin to Inti Creates being separate from Capcom and "making" their own Zero, a dramatized stretch I know. The Zero and ZX serieses are derivations of Classic and X's in his theory and that Dash is at the end of the timeline coming after Zero and ZX. Dash could also be a derivation of Classic and X, but that's a possible variation I'm thinking about. An example of derivation is, think of a basketball, a volleyball or a football. The derivation is "ball", like "type-ball". This might be what either Capcom or Inti Creates or both are trying to get to. Rockman Zero, Rockman ZX, Rockman Dash. Games or stories that are "type-Rockman". However, when it comes to Capcom according to their Rockman Perfect Memories book, Dash takes place 100 years after X like a direct sequel while Zero and ZX are an alternate timeline coming after X and not ending on Dash so that part of Hi-GO's theory and my variation doesn't fit. Only Inti's side claims Zero/ZX will end in Dash in the Rockman Zero Official Complete Works book. Also according to that last book, Zero's timeline comes from a similar but different X series.

Another of his theories, is that Zero's copy body(the third one) in his series, might be made from Repliroid parts making him made from replicas of X while keeping his(Zero) personality.

    2. All the more fantastical elements like The Four Heavenly Kings from buddhism, The Ten Shining Weapons(although it seems this idea was abandoned), Mutos(μῦθος, mûthos, mythos) Repliroids, Electronic Fairies would give credence to Hi-GO's other theory that offers that the story resembles a fable or tale that gets passed down through generations based on real events similar to works like "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" which use a fictional plot that takes place in the setting of particular real historical events.

Another theory he proposes is one involving the idea that the Rockman Zero series was made as a form of critique and breaking away from the X series and as evidence he shows the cover of the "Setting Collection" like this series was set out to undo the worldview of the X series and that the Dash series are also breaking away from the X series. While this might have been true during the development phase and early versions of the first game, I think this might've been thrown out the window when the game was finalized so I have to disagree. Don't get me wrong, there are moments of critique in the series, but nothing as harsh as that concept art.

Now, Iwamoto's manga introduced the idea that Repliroids believe in a "Messiah" that will lead them to happiness based off speculation of the original Rockman. This was also later adopted by the games. Depending on the faction and character, there have been multiple candidates. The more peaceful Repliroids believe is X, the ones in the Repliroid Rebellion believe is Sigma, Doppler believes in X, but in the sense that he will help him exterminate mankind, General believes he has to make one in proto Colonel+Iris, but due to incompatibilities, the traits had to be split and he still believes in Colonel even if he's "incomplete", Gate believed that he would make the Messiah, but when he found Zero's piece, he concludes he is the Messiah. Copy X believes he is the one as well, the story in the Zero series goads you to entertain the idea Zero is the one even if Zero himself doesn't believe it, Omega also believes he is the one however he wants to destroy the world and rebuild it in his image. In Irregular Hunter X, Vava also believes he's the one. Finally, Albert believed the winner of the Game of Destiny would be the one however due to Model V's influence he ends up believing he is the Messiah.
This has been a recurring theme that has been most of the time subtle(the localization has censored sometimes the mentions of this theme) and is more complicated than this write up due to the different ideas behind what each faction or character expects the Messiah to be like and do.

    5. Theory crafting... yes!
      Fan fiction... no!
All of this is based off the original Japanese dialogues, manuals, books, soundtrack booklets and document releases like the one by Aizu Takuya(producer of the Zero games) so a lot of things were already there. Hi-GO is a Japanese fan that has worked for tons of fan works like magazines, artbooks, CD albums and is popular over there. I don't agree with everything he has to say or theorize, but is interesting to read about him from time to time. He has his own interview article here.

    6. Other fantasy elements include the Einherjar Eight Fighters(only the word "Einherjar", not the eight fighters part) and Operation Ragnarok from norse mythology. Vile's Incident, set two years after the events of Zero 4, mentions when a girl is told of the dome city(Neo Arcadia), she thinks it was a fairy tale. The word for it is interesting, おとぎ話/オトギバナシ(otogibanashi) according to the Encyclopedia Nipponica: "The original meaning is stories told to ease boredom during "togi" ( fairy tales ), but by extension it refers to stories that are created or re-told to children in an easy-to-understand way , as opposed to old tales passed down orally." using Google Translate, I think that's an accurate translation. According to RōmajiDesu: "togi"(伽/とぎ) means "nursing; nurse; attending; attendant; entertainer." All this could add to either the fable/tale theory or the reconstruction theory.

    8. In Zero's timeline, Serges designs the Z-Saber based on data from the X-Buster. This is why the Z-Saber can mutate granting it the ability to charge, change the shape of its sheath allowing it to become the Shield Boomerang, Triple Rod, Chain Rod and Recoil Rod, and if installed in a Buster Shot, it mutates and adopts the shape of a gun, allowing it to perform Charge Shots which are impossible to perform for the rest of The Resistance.

In X's timeline, Zero had multiple sabers. First the Beam-Saber, then the Zet-Saber(pronounced like British Z which will really make it Zed-Saber, it's just that the Japanese "japanified" the letter into "ゼット") and finally the Z-Saber(Greek Z so Zeta-Saber).

    11. Now, it has been theorized that Irregular means both the Irregular Virus and the will to become Irregular. Normally it means a defective Repliroid however The Human Council also has the power to decide who is an Irregular and who isn't.

In Zero's timeline, what makes Repliroids go Irregular is indeed the virus. The Nightmare Virus is an evolution of The Sigma Virus. Zero's ending in X6 is the canon one to this timeline.
This is the path X6->Zero 4 follows.

In X's timeline, it's the result of the emotion chip in X not being finalized. Some Repliroids sooner or later end up aggressively rebelling against, well, anything really. Whether it be man or Repliroid. The virus boosts this behaviour, but is not the cause. The Nightmare Virus is a replica of The Sigma Virus. The everyone lives ending with Zero being separate from Zero Nightmare in X6 is the canon one to this timeline.
This is the path X6->X8 follows.

The alternate ending where Zero is a ghost corrupted by The Nightmare Phenomenon and Gate dies is its own thing, but Japanese fans speculate it connects with the good ending of X5 specifically the three years later part that doesn't fit with the current timeline. To clarify, everything prior to the three years time skip in the good ending of X5 is canon to X6's everyone lives ending just not the time skip.

A potential hole for this theory would be that Gate doesn't go crazy until he finds Zero's piece, but this could be chalked up to misdirection. His backstory is that he was disappointed in the Messiah prophecy with the Eurasia crash due to The Human Council throwing X and Zero under the bus deeming them responsible for the whole fiasco, his researches failed due to sabotages by his research team and him finding one of the pieces of the two characters he was obsessing over in order to analyze them due to how nobody was able to figure out their DNAs and body structures could've played a part in him loosing it.
In all the timelines the Irregular Wars ended in X5.

    14. First of all this isn't a post, it's an article. Second, it's a fan page that sometimes revolves around fan talk so who cares if it isn't related to the article at hand. By the way, all this talk about bots has seemed to summon one, lol.
Since there are no news, might as well discuss lore and answer questions that some could have regarding everything involving the story.

With that out of the way, in "Rockman 2: The Power Fighters", Duo was created by Dr. Cossack corrupted by the Evil Energy. This being the reason he has a purple aura instead of a blue one. This can be observed when he defeats a boss, he says: "わが母国の為に!" which translates to "For the sake of my homeland!" with a Russian accent. The Evil Energy in this arcade game was the result of converting the "Unknown Energy" into such unlike 8 where the Evil Energy is its own default state. In "The Power Fighters" the Unknown Energy can be converted into either Evil Energy or Good Energy. It's this Unknown Energy Wily uses to corrupt into the Evil Energy in order to make copies of past bosses. All this canon contradictions were rectified in "Rockman: Battle & Fighters", a Neo Geo Pocket game that collects both arcade games with an updated story for Duo.

In X5, ¿did you know the Ultimate Armor and Black Zero codes can be unlocked by waiting five minutes at the credits(the one with the total time and ranking, not the Capcom one)?
