Capcom and Team Shachi's Rockman 20XX Browser Game Will Shut Down on August 31

Rockman 20XX: Tatakae! Team Shachi!, an 8-bit browser game by Capcom and Team Shachi, will cease operations on August 31st.

Originally launched in 2019, Rockman 20XX presents a goofy, non-canon storyline that takes place after the events of the classic series. Rockman has retired and now resides in an old robot retirement home alongside Blues and Roll. Team Shachi, the embodiment of benevolence, graces the retirement home with a heartwarming concert. Laughter and joy fill the air until an unexpected twist occurs—a sinister AI version of Dr. Wily emerges and corrupts Rockman, morphing him into a malevolent super robot.

In the face of this looming threat, Dr. Light's AI bestows the members of Team Shachi with the ability to transform into super fighting robots. Their mission: thwart Dr. Wily and his team of geriatric Robot Masters. Yeah!

If you haven't had the chance to play the game yet, now is the time. It's available to play directly in your browser here. Regarding the future preservation of the game, there are no specific details to share at this time. However, if any developments arise, I will certainly keep you updated!

  1. Preservation of this game within this month is important. The hard work people put into this would be sad to watch fall into obscurity. I implore those with the knowledge to make that a reality for all the fans and to preserve this work.

    1. As soon as I've seen that this game could be taken down, I've decided to take on the preservation. The game is now playable here: https://lorkowski.pl/rockman-20xx/play/ . However I am going to look for somebody else to host that since i am not really ready to go to the court with Japanese companies.

    2. I saved the site as well, on 08.08, in the native format of the program I used and .warc and .wacz files. Looks like I managed to save it completely, but just to be sure: the proprietary format capture clocks at 29.2 MB, while .warc and .wacz files are about 23 MB in size.
Are these numbers similar to your archive's?

    3. Yes, it's around the same size, maybe a little bit more. To be honest, I am not really sharp when it comes to "tech stuff". The game works as intended except for the screenshot you can share on social media. Do you know anyone who could host this game and take the risk? With only around $150 to my name I don't think I stand a chance against Warner Music in court.

    4. How exactly do you save this game in its entirety? I tried saving as webpage complete and it comes out to 1.7mb not 23 or 29. Also tried as WARC and got 1.7mb again. What am
      I missing? Thanks!

    5. How exactly do you save the whole site, I only get 1.7mb not 23 or 29mb when I save the website? Thanks!

  2. I once ripped and recreated as many of the sprites and pixel art as I could. You can find it here:
    https://themechanicalmaniacs.com/blog.php/?p=2831

A ton of it was in crappy jpeg form and some just within movie files. I just couldn't make out enough to recreate one image of Megaman terrorizing the city. Too much was degraded.

  3. For the life of me, I can't figure out how to actually start the game… I assume it's supposed to boot up in that "Please play the game on these devices." window, but I guess it doesn't like the latest version of Chrome under Windows? I dunno…

    1. https://rocketqueen.games/play/ here's a direct link to the game. If you use developer tools in Chrome you can use the controls to play it in your browser, but it's pretty hard to play that way. The link only appears when you access the site on a mobile device.

    2. for pc would recommend using any android emulator like bluestacks so you are able to map the keyboard buttons

    3. Nah, it's all good. The keyboard controls are as follows:

      Move: A, S
      Shoot: J
      Jump: Space
      Select Nao (Shachi Buster): Q
      Select Yuzuki (Shiny Knuckle): W
Select Haruna (Chicken Wing Shield): E
      Select Honoka (Shachi Drone): R

Easily mappable to JoyToKey or Xpadder. Good stuff!

  4. Honestly the Mega Man series should have do a collaboration with me instead of some random Japanese idol group, who probably aren’t even true Mega Man fans like myself. I mean what do they have that I don’t. Just really sad that it wasn’t me.
