After roughly 3.5 years in development, today is the long-awaited release of Protodroid DeLTA. This 3D action-platformer is the brain child of one-man developer Adam Kareem, and I've been incredibly honored to have been part of the writing team.
Protodroid DeLTA takes deliberate inspiration from both the Mega Man X and Mega Man Legends series, paying homage to their gameplay mechanics and thematic elements (the game actually started out as "Mega Man X & Zero: Training Missions". Adam also drew inspiration from other cherished games of our youth, such as Ratchet & Clank and Sonic Adventure. It's hard for me to hide my bias here, but DeLTA is essentially what I imagine a fully-fledged 3D Mega Man X title would look and feel like. That was Adam's goal, and it's what initially attracted me to be a part of the project. You can see it in action from the trailer above!
Collaborating with Adam and our talented voice cast has been an absolute honor. We wholeheartedly hope that you enjoy Protodroid DeLTA. The game is now available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox and PC/Steam.
Pass. Another uninspired indie that just pukes neon colors all over the screen with Fortnite looking 3rd person shooting and asthetics, can barely even scratch my gaming itch, let alone my wants of Mega Man related stuff.
ReplyDeleteAlso, those character designs are unappealing to me, to put it nicely.
I'd like to see your passions project so I can pass judgment on it without even trying it.
DeleteNah first anon is right
DeleteDamn, no need to be that harsh.
DeleteIf you don't had anything to say, it'd been better not to say anything. What's with the megaman fandom being this petty?
I don't want to be mean... but yeah...
DeleteThis game looks like the definition of 'Mid' Legends/X inspired my rear end, but I get it. Protodude was involved with the game, so bias is in play... hey if Brian makes a buck or two off it, sure why not.
You know things have hit rock bottom in terms of Rockman content, when MM fans start talking about MM-like games. Good lord Capcom release an actual new MM game before 2030 plz
In this case of Inticreates games they may play bad, but at least they look stylish. This looks more like Indivisible than Mega Man. Its better than Mighty Number 9 I suppose.
Tbh there's nothing about being petty by expressing an opinion, and really, not trying to be mean but yeah, game is mid at best... Just another indie FN clone but this time with lock-shoot and strafe.. just like MML! one thing is taking inspiration, another is blatantly copying stuff just because... hard pass, sry
DeleteMega Man fans talks about Mega Man-like regardless of whether there's MM stuff at Capcom. It's always been the case.
DeleteBecause people will talk about something inspired by a franchise they like, if only out of curiosity.
Wether it interest you is your opinion but that has nothing to do with "Hitting Rock-bottom"
@Anon 3, no they aren't.
Deletenot because of their opinion, that's something personal and he is entitled to it like everyone else.
But he could just say it like a civilized person.
I don't care for neon colors myself, because I think they're overused but when I comment on it I just say. "I'm not interested in the aesthetic. Too many games theses days have this type of color palette. This doesn't helps the game stands out."
It would be time to remember, and here I'm talking in general, not about this one comment specifically, If the fans behave poorly, this makes the serie looks bad and discourage new players from trying it to avoid associating with it.
And that hurts Mega Man chances more than you'd think.
It's clearly more 3d platformer than fps and both the design and artstyle looks more animesque compared to the "fortnite" style. The only thing that looks like this is the purple/green colors, and even that is only for some of the characters. The level design and aesthetic are something else. And setting and story tropes aren't a 1:1 copy paste but still very clearly borrows from Mega Man.
DeleteI have to play it to see how the gameplay feels.
“Play Bad?” Uh, buddy have you even PLAYED the Zero (and by the extension ZX) series?
Delete"“Play Bad?” Uh, buddy have you even PLAYED the Zero (and by the extension ZX) series?"
DeleteUh, that's a bad take. 😖
At least it isn't "Crash Dummy"...
DeleteWhat about Batboy?
ReplyDeleteIf that isn't Mega Man inspired: I don't know what is. It's even a Japanese developer, and I believe the "X-Plus" games imprint is related to the Japanese collectibles company which made those giant size Rockman sofubi years ago.
I have a mini-review of Bat Boy coming up.
DeleteAwesome!
DeleteI'm looking forward to it!
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on it! I reviewed it too and loved almost all of it (that final boss...)
DeleteThis pique my curiosity. I'll try it.
ReplyDeleteNeeds a demo. I'll say it looks like it plays better than X7 at least.
ReplyDeleteHey, I'm certainly interested enough to give it a look-at. Any attempt to fill in the Mega Man void is a win in my book if it's done well.
ReplyDeleteEy cool I remember this game. Glad to see it completed. Always nice to see megaman inspired content getting made. And by a one-man developer? Nice.
ReplyDelete...meanwhile, capcom...
Wonder if it's available at Walmart...
ReplyDeleteAny plans to interview Adam?
ReplyDeleteI would love to hear specifically about the play-testing process, as I think that's the area which most indie developers overlook the most.
If there's time! But for now there's this excellent piece: https://www.gamesindustry.biz/protodroid-deltas-journey-from-mega-man-fan-game-to-humble-published-title
DeleteHello! I found the Rockman Zero commercial in a slightly higher quality (Now in mind-boggling 320p! :D)

Have a good day!
I dont really see the Megaman Legends inspirations, besides the movement being in 3d
ReplyDeleteSame. Definitely more ratchet and clank, right?
DeleteIt looks neat, but too modern and Spark-like for me. Glad for those who are interested in this, I am not.
ReplyDeleteWhat about this is inspired by Megaman Legends lol, whatever megaman spiritual successor they were aiming for, this ain't it.
