A couple days ago we finally had the chance to check out the first chapters for the brand-new "Rockman-san" and "Rockman-chan" manga. And now, thanks to the hard work of two members from the Mega Man community, we can read them both in English and Spanish!
Our good friend Midori (who runs the Mega Man Tune-a-Day Twitter account) translated -San and -Chan into to English. You can find those here and here.
Meanwhile, Aldo Cáceres Vilca, who runs a blog dedicated to translating Rockman manga and different books into Spanish, translated them as well. You can find his Spanish translation here.
Now that most of you can read -San and -Chan, let us know what you think in the comments! Don't forget to thank Midori and Aldo, too!
Both of these end rather abruptly. The first "chapters" are just samplers, aren't they.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking the same thing. What's there is good, but those endings aren't good cliffhangers. They just sort of end
DeleteAgree. They are good, but they end quite abruptly. That's all?
DeleteI believe the main issue here was how the word chapter was used. It is a sample, but it that the full chapter?
DeleteThats the full chapter, yeah. Young Ace, after the last page, pretty much says to be continued! right then and there.
DeleteI think I want 10 minutes of my life back.
ReplyDeleteDespite being comedic mangas, I found the topics in then interesting. I know they certainly aren't canon, but I still found the idea of the era of Sentient Robots ending in 20XX that way, with Light and Wily putting their shoes away.
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting to see that side of the characters, and a possibility where Classic Mega Man era doesn't end with destruction and chaos (With Zero ravaging everything or something like that).
Really hope they develop a bit more those mangas, and continue them for at least some ten chapters or so.
I don't like their appearance. Too odd. No thanks.
ReplyDeleteI'll pass.
ReplyDeleteSo I'm the only one who was dying laughing at these? They're both hilarious!
ReplyDeleteNo, you're not. I read the translations provided and they're awesome. I wonder if there's more, surely they can't end like they did. I'd love to see more of Dr. Light's problems with the robotics committee and how a lack of parts affects everyone.
DeleteTotally dig adult roll. She kept her cute hairstyle. Also adult mega being friends with all the old robot masters is very nice. It's almost like that particular world comes off from the powered up games future where Mega can spare each robot master by beating them with just the buster so that would explain why they are still around instead of having become scrap metal somewhere else. I really like this one and I hope more comes out whenever possible. Thanks for letting us know about these!
ReplyDeleteI just could not get into Rockman-san at all. The art is pretty great, but the writing is just...tripe. No offense to the fan translation, as it's alright, but if it's accurate, this is just hardcore missing any charm or likability the Classic continuity has. I don't think I need to explain more than Dr. Light, in the twilight of his years, telling his son that the purpose of robots is just to make human's lives better. This is something Light would NEVER say and is just awful.
ReplyDeleteSeeing Cutsman talk about how Dr. Light made him wrong and that human-operated tools are more efficient at cutting down trees and seeing Gutsman as a borderline out-of-work alcoholic and Strikeman being SOLD (a sentient being, mind you!) to a baseball-loving robot fetishist is just such a depressing, cynical outlook on Classic and is straight up boring. This is the "No Fun Allowed" manga. If it's meant to be a comedy, the joke sucks. If it's meant to be serious, it's impossible to take seriously because it misses the point of Classic so hard.
Rockman-chan however is pretty cool. It actually has a similarly negative Dr. Light portrayal but the jokes it generates are pretty good. The art I'm mixed on, most of it looks good and I think the character designs in general are good, but I don't know what's going on with Blues. I don't think I see enough of him to really get a feel for whatever direction his design is going for. The Rush jokes and the Blues' whistle jokes are the best ones.
So yeah, I look forward to more Rockman-chan but I have checked RIGHT out of Rockman-san.
I think Blues looks like someone's OC, and I don't mean that in a good way.
DeleteI mean it is at least a fairly logical conclusion. When you have sentient beings built and programed for obsolescence it will inevitably lead to problems. The robots in the main game are still considered property. Remember in mega man 9 how the robot masters were simply tossed out like garbage?
