The officially-licensed Mega Man: The Wily Wars reproduction cartridge from Retro-Bit was announced in August 2019 with an intended Q1 2020 launch. We haven't heard much from the project since then. Granted, we're living in unprecedented times. The ongoing pandemic has affected it. That said, if you were concerned the project was outright scrapped, I come bearing good news.
Retro-Bit has confirmed that The Wily Wars reproduction cartridge remains in active development with "a lot of action happening behind the scenes" as they prepare for release. More news will be delivered later this year, which could very well entail a release date.
For the uninitiated, Retro-Bit are not only developing the reproduction cartridge but a Collector's Edition that includes bonus goods, too. These include limited edition packaging, mini Mega Man, Elect Man and Cut Man figures (the later is transparent!) and other unannounced odds and ends. You can get an idea of what might be included from Retro-Bit's past Collector's Edition offerings here. They spare no expense!
And that, my friends, is all there is to say on this front for now. We'll keep you posted as more info becomes available!
Man, I really hope those figures will be available separately! I don't have the console to play this cart on, but I would love to have those figures.
ReplyDeleteI think the real question should be if this reproduction cart will somehow resolve the slowdown issues that plagued the original cart release. I have a reproduction cart from three years ago and it can get virtually unplayable with how bad the slowdown can get.
ReplyDeleteYour reproduction cart is probably a port of the PAL version of the game which runs at 50hz or roughly 17% slower than a North American cartridge is intended to run.
DeleteThe retrobit cart should be based of the 60hz NTSC-J game with an English translation (or the version that was available in America for download on the Sega Chanel). It should play much like the game does on the Sega Genesis mini.
You predicted the future!
DeleteYes at last a good Mega Man news !!!
ReplyDeleteMan... I've toyed around with the idea of getting some of those retro consoles. My NES and SNES are RIP, damn dog defecated on my 64... Never had a Genesis.
ReplyDeleteMaybe I will order one. And order a copy of this.
Gotta get that retro trio too. Or a Retron that can play GB games too.
How embarrassing.
ReplyDeleteInteresting.. An American version. Is it going to be licensed by Capcom, huh ?
