One of the coolest things announced last year was the "Capcom vs. Osamu Tezuka Characters" art exhibit, which opened its doors on October 23rd, 2020. It will end on February 23rd this year.
With the prohibition of taking photos from inside the exhibition and the ongoing pandemic, there was concern that we wouldn't be able to take a peek at all the goodies inside. But that fear is now dispelled with the announcement of an artbook to immortalize the exhibit -- forever!
Find all the details after the break!
The book is simply called "Capcom vs. Osamu Tezuka Characters" and will be published by Shufunotomo this April. It will sell for 2700 Yen (or roughly 22€ or $26). With 112 pages printed in A4 format, the book promises an extensive coverage of the exhibit, including rare materials, development plans, original rare drawings, rough sketches, unused manuscripts and animation scripts by Osamu Tezuka himself!
The book is divided into five chapters or "rounds" as they'll be called. Inside the book you will find things like a chronology of both Capcom and Osamu Tezuka, an introduction of the nine creators involved in drawing the new artwork for the exhibition, all the new VS. artwork, a new "Black Jack vs. Ace Attorney" 4-panel manga drawn by Tsunogai, interviews with Tsunogai and Yusuke Nakamura, and much more!
At the time of writing this post, the book is only available to purchase via Fukkan and they don't ship outside Japan. So while we wait for the book to appear at other retailers, die-hard collectors may want to consider buying it from Fukkan via proxy. They will give you a bonus A5 original card featuring "Rockman vs. Astro Boy" artwork (while supplies last).
As a reminder, we've already seen Keisuke Mizuno's version of Astro Boy, Tsunogai's version of Rockman and Bengus' key art with Rockman, Roll, Dr. Light and Dr. Wily in it. At this time, we don't know if the book will contain more Rockman-related content.
Let us know if you plan to add this book to your collection in the comments!
Oh I really hope they make this available to buy overseas at some point.
ReplyDeleteWhoa, I almost forgot about this art exhibit. Really hope that artbook gets released overseas.
ReplyDeleteNice, I had the chance to go there in person. They had some cool development blue prints on the wall that likely are not a part of this book, like yellow devils design and gameplay notes. The Jill sandwhich room from RE too.
