https://twitter.com/nextfg3/status/1270412112293027845?s=20 On June 9th, Mega Man Legends composer Makoto Tomozawa took to Twitter to ask fans if they would be interested in crowdfunding Mega Man Legends 3. You can find those tweets above.
#MegamanLegend3 For example, if you collect money by crowdfunding, collect staff, how many people will agree when you launch the project, please retweet if this stupid tweet catches your eyes I want to hear the voice!

— Makoto Tomozawa (@nextfg3) June 9, 2020
He is asking fans to simply RT one or both tweets with hopes of achieving "five digits". In other words, 10,000 retweets.
Mr. Tomozawa did not elaborate on why he made these tweets. From an outsiders perspective, though, it appears he is merely entertaining the thought. This is not an official call to action, mind you.
However, it's worth pointing out that, although Mr. Tomozawa is no longer employed at Capcom, he maintains a working relationship with the company. In the early 2000s, Tomozawa departed Capcom to compose music at Dimps Corporation, a position which has allowed him to continue to collaborate with Capcom. He was the Sound Co-Director for Street Fighter IV (lead Sound Director for Super SFIV), Sound Line Manager for Street Fighter V, and served as one of eight guest composers for Mega Man 10's score. (due in no small part to his role as Mega Man 7's composer)
Alone, Mr. Tomozawa cannot actually start a crowdfund campaign for Mega Man Legends 3. I don't believe that's his intention. But given his past relationship with Mega Man Legends and current relationship with Capcom, Mr. Tomozawa is in a unique position to gather feedback and support for Mega Man Legends 3 in this, the year 2020.
If you'd like to see Mega Man Legends 3 make a comeback, retweet those tweets!
Even though I'm not interested in the Legends series, Capcom should finish Legends 3. I never really understood why they cancelled it.
ReplyDeleteRed Ash traumatic memories coming back.
ReplyDeleteBut seriously, don't give us hope. Capcom murdered this project in the past and to bring this back, they need to admit their failures. They won't
And MML has a lot of Inafune influence on it. You can even trace his shift to 3d games more focused on exploration and combat than platforming checking the games he produced later: MML > MML2 > Onimusha > Lost Planet (i think he's on the credits), Dead Rising.
The man bet his career on MN9 and lost. Capcom won't bring him back and without him, it wouldn't be the same thing. People would like a MML3 now because anything is better than nothing and the other legend games aged poorly, so even a mediocre game for today standards would be the best MML ever made. But it would still be nothing compared to the previous version with all the community engagement
Yeah, I agree that this gives me serious Red Ash vibes...

Actually, I would would go a step further and recommend taking a look at ReCore Definitive Edition by Comcept/Armature. It's a rather good game that feels a bit like Legends (and Metroid Prime), and I believe that Legends 3 would not merely be mediocre if Capcom went that route with it. I just wish that Capcom had noticed Inafune's work on ReCore and brought him onboard for Legends 3.
I wouldn't mind if they did Legends 3 and kept going to more than 3.
ReplyDeleteSee, I can get behind a crowdfunded Mega Man. IF (and I can't stress this enough) it's done right. They can't create stretch goals and promise you the moon. And they can't take 5 years to release it either.
ReplyDeleteMake a game for PlayStation/Switch/Steam AND THAT'S IT! No Linux, No Vita, No smartphones... keep it simple.
Be absolutely up front and honest about it.
Don't promise a dozen worthless modes that just add production time.
Get the funding up front, prove the customer base, and make the game.
So, basically, don't pull a Mighty Number 9. Got it.
DeleteOr arguably not a Bloodstained, as good a game as it was it pissed a lot of people off by breaking promises.
DeleteMighty no 9 lol
DeleteIt'll never happen. I don't want it to happen, either.
ReplyDeleteNow, considering that Mega Man Legends 2 is probably my all-time favorite PlayStation game, what does that tell you?
(Of course, that, in itself, is probably meaningless coming from me. Mega Man 8 is in my Top 10…)
It tells me that you don't want Legends 3 to happen. :P
DeleteI have zero interest in Legends as a series, and I would absolutely support Legends 3 with a purchase.
OMG... Legends 3 would be a dream come true.
ReplyDeleteI didn't care for Legends 1 or 2 because they were just too dated as games go. Nowadays, with all of the QoL that Capcom has mastered, a Legends 3 would be dope. Was true back then it was first almost released, still true now. I was looking forward to a melee character, too.
ReplyDeleteI'm down for Legends 3, but all I care about is for a Battle Network HD Collection on modern consoles.
ReplyDeleteMust not give up, this is a potential to happen, at least his hearts at the right place, so we may never know.
ReplyDeleteThat's one project I will gladly support if it comes to pass. After MM11 and X9, Legends 3 should come next IMO.
ReplyDeleteThe MegaMan Legends 3 development team said the project failed due to the lack of involvement from fans... even if it’s MegaMan I won’t fund the project due to their lesser nature. “That’s fine most will” yeah you’re right most don’t have a decent sense of pride. *shrug*
ReplyDeleteThat was a comment from Capcom Europe that does not reflect the views of the Devroom or Capcom Japan. They have since apologized.
DeleteThe project fell apart due to:
- mismanagement of the Devroom (it was far, far too difficult for people to sign up)
- Keiji Inafune leaving Capcom. Without Inafune, the project had no direction or support from "higher up".
- The Tohoku earthquake, which affected the development of numerous then-in-production products.
Maybe it was good it failed the first time because this time, we will actually get it on the big screen vs a puny 3DS screen. I prefer it on Steam with a nice gamepad any day. I would not buy a tiny 3DS just to play that, even if it is a game i like, and would thus resort to an emulator for playing it, but thankfully i won't have to because if released, it will be for modern platforms and can then buy it on Steam.
DeleteAlso, it isn't the job of fans to make the game or have to have any input in a devroom, and kickstarter sounds like a cheap way to make a game. They can just invest into it like normal game developers have always done.
Well, if you combine his English and Japanese tweets, that's already above 10000 retweets in less than 24 hours.
ReplyDeleteBut I'd try to get 5 digits to both, just to be safe, and maybe even 6 digits, cause I really hope this leads to something.
I'd love for Legends 3 to finally see the light of day, if anything because I liked how Mega Man 11 turned out.
ReplyDeleteThey're not the same kind of game, but I feel like if Legends 3 had the same kind of care put into it, it could become a standout Mega Man game and prove that Mega Man doesn't need Inafune to be good.
Come to think of it, maybe it never needed Inafune at all, if MN9 is anything to go by.
i'd want a revival of mega man legends 3(it was the only cancelled game that affected me as i didn't care about universe or online at all.) and the legends series is my favorite after the classic games and x following it but i want a rerelease of the legends games first before anything like that is greenlit(i'd honestly want it before an x9 but i would prefer a collection/remaster that fixes it's problems of the series first to garner interest for newcomers.) and if it were to be green lit as a kickstarter:
ReplyDelete1.delay it if it's still buggy or need a few more patch ups.
2.don't be too over ambitious to where it falls apart due to poor communication as well as.(that's the biggest problem that killed mighty no. 9 along with shit marketing.)
3.give it better marketing.(not even comparing mighty no. 9 capcom just needs to advertise it both online & offline.darkstalkers was really kept from the revival it deserved due to capcom putting a ridiculous expectation of units sold which wasn't going to happen with a psn store only game, especially with the advertising not doing any televised commercials outside online trailers.)
4.focus on one platform.(it really can make or break a game if the console it's on is made to handle it and i think it being on the switch would be a good way to tie it to its original 3ds planned release.)
5.try to bring back as much of the original developers to work on it.(inafune i can understand why for not getting called for the project even though i imo still feel most of the reason for capcom causing him to leave/cancelling projects is very childishly petty but the original producers, directors, writers of whatever plot it was going to have and programmers of the original legends 3 project need to be brought back so it actually has the charm the legends series had.)
Don't do that, don't give me hope.
ReplyDeleteYea, Online was probably never going to leave Asia... Universe's concept isn't too terrible, but the art style hurt my eyes. I don't miss either one.
ReplyDeleteI'd play Legends 3. I didn't like the concepts they were using last time... I didn't want to focus the game play on a new character. As that progressed it seemed like that was all they were demoing.
Umm shouldn't Capcom be doing this instead of expecting fans to fund it? I'll buy it if it comes out on Switch, but that's as far as I go to support kickstarters.
ReplyDeleteWhy do you think Capcom would make a kickstarter..?? They are not Comcept/Inafune. Either they make the game by themselves. Or revive the whole game along with the community to help out with the game's development again by publishing concept arts and such. Doubt Capcom would ever make a kickstarter to fund.
