Wonder Fest 2020: Fourth Armor, Riobot Falcon Armor, Rising Fire X and More!

Wonder Festival is in full-swing in Japan and we've got updates and reveals on a handful of Mega Man kits and figures!

First up, here's Sentinel's "Riobot" Falcon Armor X figure. This is the first time it's been presented in color. No details on price or release date:

Next is Kotobukiya's all new X series kit: Forth Armor X! It will be available in two versions - standard and a "Rising Fire" color variant (from Mega Man X4). The later will be a Kotobukiya Store exclusive in Japan:

Kotobukiya also revealed a "Rising Fire" variant of vanilla X, too:

Here's an update on the Zero kit and its respective variant, Nightmare Zero! June release for both. Previous details on these kits can be found here.

More details are coming soon. Stay tuned!

  1. OHO Dude, that's awesome! Fourth Armor and Rising Fire? Sign me up.
I especially like that they acknowledge Fourth Armor's duel buster types :)

I still HATE Zero's hair... Someone needs to make a blow molded version that's not hollow.

    1. seriousely thinking on the feasibility of a custom alternate piece for the hair.
I'm still getting it since the figure looks awesome otherwise and Nightmare Zero is quite rare, but that's the one detail that bug me.

    2. Maybe someone should poke the dude here that does 3D printing. He might have some ideas on that.

    3. That's me :)
This one's beyond my current skill set. Simple things I can do, sure. Making a new head and hair that looks fantastic? Not so much.
I might try something, but I'd rather see a garage kit maker or 3rd party model supplier take a stab.

    4. Fair enough. I was thinking of other things, like using the hollow hair to make a mould and mucking around with it to create a way to attach a back piece to it. It'd still be hollow since I doubt anyone would want a repeat of D-Arts Zero's hair falling off, but it'd look like a full piece.

    5. I was thinking of a thin, two piece assembly. It has to be light weight. I don't know how to do blow molding, but something like that could be pretty light.
My problem is I don't have the right software skills to make something that big look good.
An insert would work. but I still don't have the tools. I need a 3D scanner :(

Customizing the Mega Armors is easier because they are small and I can fudge things a bit better.

    6. It sorta seems like we have a similar idea, though I don't really know what blow moulding is.

    7. Blow Moulding looks like you need a lot of space and equipment. Unless it's becoming more accessible on the consumer end, I don't know how the average person would do this.

    8. I'm not bothered by Zero's hair

  2. Oh, hell yeah.

Just finished building both Koto Max Armors from X3. Very pleased. Probably won't bother picking up the Rising Fire variants. The effect parts though...

I'm curious to find out how they'll handle the Arm Parts for the X4 armor, since there are two in the game, with two different color schemes. Also wonder what they plan for the included blast effect parts. Will it be the Plasma Shot or Stock Shot?

Not sure if I'm a fan of the cutsie look of the eyes on the Riobot, but the armor looks incredible.

    1. I am assuming, since they imply both buster types in the artwork, they will have two different colored sprues: one white, one black. The other bits are the same either way. They would need two hand sets also, one blue and one red. So basically, two duplicate sprues.

OR what they might do is include the parts in the Rising Fire model, which you can substitute with the regular model, but I really hope they DON'T do that, since then you have to pick and choose which gets which.

I always liked the black one better.

They already did that on the X3 Max Armors, getting one translucent head jewel sprue and a second molded in solid red/orange, so you can do the radar bits in solid or translucent. That was a nice touch, I thought.

    2. See, I was specifically not pleased with the Max Armor; when compared to similarly-priced Bandai kits: they're just not very well engineered. The sculpting and proportions are spot-on, but the tooling for the mould is borderline idiotic. Kotobukiya's Regular X was a pretty good kit -- sturdy, etc. -- but they seem to be having trouble keeping up that quality when the design becomes more complicated. I'm not sure if I will continue to support this line. I also don't like their sales stragety of splitting-up relevant effect parts into different kits -- Z Saber in Max Armor only, blast effects in Hyper Chip, Zero's Rising Fire blade in X's kit, etc. -- just to sell more kits.

    3. Something bugged me with the falcon armor's face, but i could'nt quite get what. Now i know, the pupils are too big.

    4. Well, they are in the business of selling models...
      Bandai does the same thing.

      Oh well, c'est la vie.

My Hyper Max has a stress mark I put into it :( I do think the two shades of gold are too close together. I'm also not super keen on the radar assembly. But compared to the mega armor figure, it's pretty boss.

I would have done a few things differently. Like the shoulder assemblies. I would have made the flexing joint a separate grey mold rather than part of the ball. I also would have tried to grey mold the detail lines in the body. It would have looked a hell of a lot better.

Some people were remarking how they hated the way the Max buster looked. I'm working on this:

I still need to prototype it though...

  3. Just noticed the Armored Rising Fire variant comes with the Plasma Shot Arms. According to the art anyways.

  4. The Rising Fire kit really opens the door for future recolors. I'm betting Black Zero and/or Fake Zero are really likely at some point down the line.

  5. Nice. I always liked the fourth armor's Gundam-esque design.

  6. Love the kotobukiya kits will probably get sucked into buying them all, but that face on the falcon armor sentinel figure is a no go..

  7. Just HUGE! The Fourth Armor is just one of my very favorite with the Max Armor...A dream come true! Can't Wait for Zero! Seriously the quality of those Kotobukiya figures is just awesome. Day One.

  8. GREAT! I don't have any fourth armor X, so i'm sure to buy this one.
The falcon armor looks nice, but i'm not fond off the face and the ball articulation on the waist, but on the other hand, I do want to have a falcon armor X.

  9. I'm thorn. Getting both would be a toil on my finances but i know i will regret it if i don't get the rising fire variant now and i try to find it later.
