A Rare Look at the Nintendo Power Mega Man 2 Figurines

Every now and again I find myself admiring the cover of Nintendo Power #7. It featured fantastically-detailed figurines of Mega Man, Dr. Wily and an intricate model of Wily Machine 2. I may be a little Mega Man biased, but this is unquestionably my favorite Nintendo Power cover from the publication's storied history. And that is why, my friends, I tend to find myself wondering where these beautiful figurines are today.

Are the holed up in some warehouse, rotting away? Are they locked away in the air tight vault of an anonymous collector, never to be seen again? The answer to these questions came to me, at last, from a one Stephen Reese; a self-professed, video game historian.

Stephen Reese is the owner of the largest collection of Nintendo Power art and memorabilia - ever. He runs the "Art of Nintendo Power" Twitter account where he shows of his wares of rarely seen treasures. And among his many goodies are *the* Mega Man, Dr. Wily and Wily Machine 2 figurines from issue 7... in near perfect condition.

Rockman Live 2020 Impressions by Pablo Montero

Hello, my name is Pablo and I’m from Mexico. At the start of the year I went to Japan for vacation, right during the time of the Rockman Live 2020 concerts in Tokyo. The shows came as part of promotion for the upcoming Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection releasing this week, presenting music from the Classic, EXE, Zero and ZX series. I live-tweeted about the event here and Rockman Corner asked me to write a retrospective on the matter, so here it is!

For the uninitiated, this collection includes Mega Man Zero 1-4, Mega Man ZX, Mega Man ZX Advent and an handful of features and bonus content for newcomers and veteran fans. The brand-new, competative AGDQ-inspired "Z-Chaser" Mode will have old-timers racing against the clock to light up leader boards. Additionally, the new Save Assist function preserves your progress and a number of filters and screen orientation options for ZX/ZXA. And finally, the Art Gallery houses a whopping 650 individual pieces of production and concept art from all six games.

A Gallery of Disappointments (Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection)

Different people have different reasons to buy Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection. Some will buy the collection to experience the games for the first time. Others, perhaps, want to re-play them again oncurrent generation of hardware. In my case, however, I'm neither of those. Of course I will enjoy playing the games on the big screen or take them with me on my Nintendo Switch. But my main interest lies somewhere else: the gallery mode.

Rockman ZX Advent Developer's Report Translation

From May to July of 2007, a set of six "developer's reports" were published on the Rockman ZX Advent Official Blog, which featured interviews of key staff members that worked on the game. These include director Ryota Ito, character designer and scenario writer Makoto Yabe, character chief designer Gyosei Tamura, background designer Hidenori Katsuki, main programmer Tetsuhurio Shishido, and sound producer Ippo Yamada.

Presented for the very first time in English (thanks again to our friend Sider), we're proud to deliver a translation of the developer's reports.

While there is nothing too ground breaking here, it's interesting to learn what these key staff members did and their struggles and highlights during ZX Advent's development. You can find it after the break!

A Better Look at Kotobukiya Zero and Nightmare Zero + Pre-Orders (UPDATE)

UPDATE: Big Bad Toystore has opened pre-orders for both kits. Regular Zero here and Nightmare Zero here.

Hot off the heels of Wonder Festival, Kotobukiya have posted two product pages for the Zero and Nightmare Zero model kits. Click the preceding links and check out more than a dozen images of each kit and their complementary accessories! Additionally, pre-orders for the normal Zero are currently being accepted from Ami Ami. The Nightmare version, for now, requires a proxy to be able to pre-order from Kotobukiya's Japanese store. Pre-orders close on March 22nd.

While we're at it, here's the product description for Zero:

"The exact proportions are faithfully recreated based on the character’s appearance in the series, and thanks to the technology of CAD engineering that allows a wide range of impressive articulation, users are able to recreate Zero’s many poses from the game. Within this kit, Zero comes equipped with his signature Z-Saber in 3 different effects. Furthermore, by attaching the Milight 316 (lithium-ion battery with an LED attached) to the Z-Saber, you can make the clear blade light up!
The other accessories that are included in the model kit, including the Buster Shot Gun, hand parts, and three interchangeable facial expressions make this model kit perfect for posing in many different situations. You can switch out the hair part from the separately sold Mega Man X Zero Nightmare Version to create more dynamic poses."

And here's the description for Nightmare Zero:

"Moving away from the original color of Zero, the overall color scheme of Zero Nightmare Version was made with a purple base as drawn from the character’s appearance in the game. The new Nightmare Version of Zero’s signature hair differs from the original with more movement incorporated in its 3-dimensional design. The hair part in Zero’s original color will also be included as an additional part in this model kit, so you can enjoy creating various scenarios when posed together with the separately sold Zero. "

Both model kits are due sometime in June. Additional details on price and availability are forthcoming. Hang in there!

The Entire Rockman X Novel is Now Available in English

Originally released on January 26th, 2017, Rockman X The Novel -Irregulars Report- is the novelization of the Rockman X1's plot, but it's not actually based on the game. Instead, it's based on the manga adaptation by Yoshihiro Iwamoto. The book, written by Tsubasa Todoroki and published by PHP Institute, contains more than a dozen new black & white illustrations by Yoshihiro Iwamoto himself.

Shortly after the release of the novel, a group of fans began to translate it to English. Unfortunately, the project came to a halt at the end of 2018 with the release of the third chapter. Fast forward to today, we are happy to report that the novel has finally been translated, thanks to the efforts of our good friend Sidier. Sidier should be familiar to most of you, as we have published many articles with his translations.

For your convenience, we have consolidated both translations - the original three chapters and Sidier's work - cleaned up the illustration scans and made a single PDF archive so you can read the book on a tablet. You can download it here.

With the help of our friend Hyper we also made an Ebook/EPUB version to make it easier in your eyes if you want to read it on your phone. You may encounter some text formatting issues depending on the reader you use, If you are an Android user I recommend you to use Moon+ ReaderYou can download the EPUB version here.

We don't know if the novel will ever receive an official translation to English or other languages. In the meantime, you can support the publisher buying the Japanese edition here.
