New Images of Kotobukiya Zero and "Nightmare Zero" Variant Revealed

In addition to new images of the previously announced Kotobukiya Zero model kit, a Nightmare Zero variant was revealed at the "All Japan Model Hobby Show" tonight. More images and details after the break!

If the images didn't make it clear enough, the two kits will be differentiated by their color schemes and unique "hair part".

The standard Zero kit is expected to ship in December. Nightmare Zero has no release date or piece at the moment.

More news soon!

  1. It's funny how the box design for the Nightmare Zero kit doesn't have a diff shape for the hair

  2. Hmm. I was hoping for news on this guy soon. Really expected Black Zero, but this is just as cool. Can't wait to do some custom paint jobs on these guys.

    1. Looks like Nightmare Zero will be 6800JPY. Weird they just showed a price for that one.

And these better come with busters. It'd be a real shame and missed opportunity if they don't.

  3. Oh I HATE that hair. It's just a hollow shell that will only look good from the back. I hope someone makes an after market improvement...

    1. It's a model, so it's up to you to do that. It's probably that way due to the weight honestly.

    2. No kidding... Really?

There are alternative ways to make a lighter piece of Zero hair. Perhaps a thin blow-molded shape. I'd like to see a good design for Zero's hair just once that had some good adjustment, in one piece, for dynamic poses. Bandai's Zero series Zero figure came close... But still looks a bit odd to me.

I might try my hand at something. Other people are better at those things, and there is an aftermarket for Gundam parts so it would be cool if someone made something like this and sold it.

  4. OMG they actually took the coolest possible choice for the recolor! We all expected Black Zero and they instead gave us Nightmare Zero, that's super cool to get merch for it. I'm so sick of Black Zero that any other recolor would be welcomed, even X2's Fake Zero...

    1. I was actually hoping for Black Zero to do an easy repaint into Fake Zero. Oh well, we'll see what happens

    2. Don't give up on a Black Zero...

If the line proves successful, I would bet there will be a Black Zero at some point. Either through a separate vendor or as a convention exclusive or even a full scale release if the income and interest is there.

That's how the model building industry works.

Besides, if you could custom one, you can custom the other. I'd rather custom build BLACK than PURPLE for its easier color mix any day, especially since black paint has a tendency to block color bleed through.

    3. I'd be willing to bet Black Zero ends up being a special limited release, kinda like those Premium Bandai Gundam model kits.

  5. Personally Id rather have black Zero cause nightmare zero and X6 in general are kinda... lol Cool for those that want it tho, I'll just get regular, I'd be down for a black variant tho.

    1. Kotobukiya has been reissuing the old ones every few years. They probably will this time as well.

    2. I wouldn't say this is a "kick in the balls" for fans at all, we are just given a lot of content (which is actually a great thing for fans). Figure collectors are expected to have money to support their hobby, and if you have limitations, then just skip some releases and be done with it. It honestly sounds more like a You problem than a Them problem.

  8. Really like the proportions on this Zero. The hollow hair is quite lame.

I welcome a variant that isn't Black Zero. 'Course, they could just do Black Zero with a few swappable faces and helmet pieces with the red crystal to represent the X2 fake Zero and give consumers the option for a good or evil Zero.

    1. Fake Zero actually has every part of its body different from Black Zero: the platinum blonde details are supposed to be silver for the entire body as well as the hair, and then there's the head crystal.

  9. Hollow underside of the hair looks absolutely terrible and cheap.

  10. I want to like this but goddamn, that hollow hair really ruins the model. Even the Kotobukiya Mega Man Zero model kit had solid hair. They better get this fixed by the time it gets released.
