Following Disney's acquisition of 21st Century Fox, news recently surfaced from Variety that Disney would be making some big changes, including a major refocus of Fox's movie projections and a complete overhaul of their upcoming projects. Only a few of the projects projected over the next five years remain: remakes of Home Alone, Night at the Museum, Cheaper by the Dozen, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and a slate of unannounced superhero projects. Of the 250 projected films removed from the road map, Mega Man was included.
It is important to note, while it looks as if the Mega Man movie was shelved, it is potentially possible for another studio to pick up the project. Disney has no legal ownership of the movie's theatrical rights, mind you. Capcom and the creative team behind the project could be shopping it around as we speak.
Should more news surface in the future, we'll be sure to let everyone know!

oh geez that's too bad
ReplyDeleteoh thank God
ReplyDeleteGood riddance.
ReplyDeleteAnd nothing of value was lost.
ReplyDeleteFunny, a couple months back someone on here commented that the Mega Man film (and several others) suddenly dissapeared off the studio's Wikipedia page, but it was dismissed. Maybe they were on to something?
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm happy it was shelved for now. Capcom should continue shopping the idea around, but should actually care about how the IP gets portrayed in a film. This would be a great opportunity to actually get a good concept off the ground (i.e. NOT live action).
Good. Last thing I want is to see Mega Man butchered on the big screen.
ReplyDeleteI think it's probably a good thing the movie was shelved, live action video game movies are usually pretty bad.
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid... but oh well let's see what happens D:
ReplyDeleteWish they'd just make more games, instead
ReplyDeleteRemeber that it's two different things. the guys (not) making the movie are not related to the ones making the games.
DeleteNow of course, i don't particularly want a MM movie, and i want games, but there's not really a "instead" about it.
And there was much rejoicing! I didn't expect this movie to be good at all. Mega Man doesn't deserve horrid live-action movie treatment like Super Mario Bros., Sonic the Hedgehog, Mortal Kombat, Dragonball, etc, etc.
ReplyDeleteWhy are these also on the list

So 13 year old movies get remakes now? Night at the Museum just came out in 2006!
ReplyDeleteThat's modern Hollywood for you, remake everything.
DeleteYes, they ran out of creativity
DeleteTHANK GOODNESS
ReplyDeleteThat really sucks,as I was hoping for a Disney/Capcom partnership. However If this thing really is canned,I think Capcom should just give up on the project and not bother to "shop around" for a new studio. Hollywood usually ruins things anyway.
ReplyDeleteI (like many peoples here it seems) was'nt expecting the movie to be good anyway (not saying it WOULD have been bad, just that there was a high chance that it turned out being bad given hollywood track record with Live-action adaptation), but i still expected it to be done, be it only for the advertising factor. People are nowadays perfectly aware that live action movie are not a very good representation of the source material so it would have not damaged the brand's image too much. And on the other hand, a bad live-action movie being made always have the advantage of causing more people to ear about the source material.
ReplyDeleteLike how the Ghos in the shell movie caused the manga sales to rise.
Yeah, I'm relieved.
ReplyDeleteCGI or animation might work, but not live action.
Thank god! I dont mind at all!
ReplyDeleteI remember a fan made Mega Man movie from Blue Core Studios back in 2010. I had no idea this was thought up for the actual. I prefer the fan made anyways.
ReplyDeleteEven that was pretty bad.
DeleteIf it's the one I'm thinking of, I wasn't particularly impressed by it, either. I hope they had fun making it, though. Not needing to be drunk for filming would certainly put it above the Super Mario Brothers Movie.
DeleteWeeellll it wasn't great. It was way too cheesy. BUT it was well done in many aspects and it looked like they had lots of fun making it and they put a lot of heart and hard work into it. So kudos to them.
DeleteBullet freakin' dodged.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sad to see that the Megaman movie is dead.
ReplyDeleteBut it is depressing to hear that Disney is continuing with remaking movies.
Finally some good news around here.
ReplyDeleteThank god, this would've been a complete shit show. Make an animated movie or nothing at all.
ReplyDeletePhew! It woulda been absolutely awful I just know it.
