The premise of the game surrounds a virus/glitch that has corrupted the world of Mega Man X, mixing characters and stages together in a beautiful mess. For example, you can play as Cinnamon (from Command Mission) in a stage from X4. It's up to you, the player, as "data" to fix everything.
Here's everything I know about the game:
Here's everything I know about the game:
- The game has been in development for a little over 1.5 years
- MULTIPLE playable characters from the X series.
- Not "on rails"; you have complete control over your characters. It plays like a traditional Mega Man X game.
- Controllers are supported.
- Early in development, there were plans for a system that allowed you to create your own Reploid. No idea if its still in.
- The game is running off a modified Maverick Hunter X engine.
- The game is aiming for "home console" quality despite being a mobile-only release. Lots (and I mean lots) of actual Mega Man fans make up the development staff
- A *possible* public beta is coming soon.
- Little to no gacha elements but I cannot rule out microtransactions entirely.
At this time, the game has only been confirmed to release within Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. HOWEVER, I can tell you that a global version is very much in the works.
Rockman X Dive is due to launch later this year.
I think Battle Network Series would fit way better as a mobile game.
ReplyDeleteno. i dont think so because to achieve s rank on battle network for boss battles on original games is super frustrating to me, let alone on a console i'm genuiely not familiar with.
DeleteThat doesn't... Just because you're bad at some games doesn't mean it shouldn't be on a platform.
DeleteGetting high-ranks in Battle network is frustrating at early part of the game, and become ridiculousely easy once you have access to some of the advance programs. I think that's the only issuei had with that serie.
DeleteThe first thing they show is hardware to make your phone look like a switch..... I'm no rocket scientist but that should have been enough to tell them it should not be on phones.
ReplyDeleteWho even enjoys platformers with touch screen buttons?
It's not that hard to pick up a good gamepad for mobile nowadays. And if they showed this setup in the trailer then it's pretty clear they don't intend to have touch controls as the main setup for the game.
DeleteYou know how lots of the most recent PC games have a message along the lines of "a gamepad is recommended for this game" when you start it up? Expect the same to happen on mobile more and more frequently from now on.
It seems like it was thought to be on a handheld system, and they probably did'nt want it to be platform-locked on the switch, so they go for mobile phone since everyone own one nowadays. i still agree that it would have been neat on console, but i'm pretty happy about that anoucement nonetheless.
DeleteYou know there are controllers for mobile phones, that are cheap so why do you complain?. Just get one and enjoy the game
DeleteThat phone is Asus ROG Phone 2 that just officially announced today. they have detachable controller (sound familiar?) and case that officially supported with the phone.
DeleteThat's the ASUS ROG Phone 2, announced today, to which some games like PUBG and this are partnering with, apparently there will be a 120hz option and full Kunai gamepad support (Thats what they call the gamepad add-on).
DeleteBecause they're not lagless, that's why. And usually the construction quality and deadzones are shoddy, too, especially for the price.
DeleteSo get a good decent not-cheap controller instead like you would for anything you want good quality for. Or use a wired controller. As powerful as smartphones are now, there's no reason for crying about a game being on mobile.
Deletecolour me interested, very VERY interested.
ReplyDeletePlayable characters from Command Mission? That's a pretty deep cut.
ReplyDeleteHey, if you look at the screen beforehand in like the first two seconds, it shows a system that has a build similar to the Switch, is this foreshadowing?
ReplyDeleteNO
ReplyDeleteI'm all in if it still plays at least as well as MHX.
ReplyDeleteThanks Protodude! :o
ReplyDeleteAlso, so that's what them scrambled eggs are for. :thonk:
Fighting with Hunter Progarm... Off to a nice start.
ReplyDeleteWhy not on consoles though? How can one play a sidescrolling action game without physical buttons?
That's like asking how can one type an essay without a physical keyboard. There are controllers you can connect to your phone, wireless and wired. You CAN have physical buttons. Do people really still have their heads in the sand about this stuff nowadays? It's 2019.
DeleteNow THIS is what I'm talking about! Goodbye shitty card game!
ReplyDeleteI seriously hope this game plays like MHX. Just the fact that you can play as Cinnamon for the first time in an action platformer title is a big deal. Hopefully you can play as the rest of the CM cast too, including Spider.
I feel like this could have been an mmo lite or freeware console game instead of being on phones. Controls look catered to a controller instead of a touch screen. Game don't look like it has level design so much as a flat stage where you murder things tho, so maybe that was the reason? IDK it's confusing to see that kinda quality on a platform known for single handed use
ReplyDeleteHopefully this is the first step towards bringing X back properly.
ReplyDeleteIt strongly seems like it is (or maybe MMX collection was, since it came first, even if that one was anounced first). Of course i always manage my expectation when it come to game, but there has been a lot of X recently. let's just wait and see.
DeleteNot gonna lie, this actually looks pretty promising. And no gacha, too? Sign me up.
ReplyDeleteWell, time for me to buy a new phone. the antiquity that i own now is 100% sure to not be compatible with it.
ReplyDeleteHope we get to play as Colonel. I mean, Cinamon is playable, no reason for them to not include Colonel.
This is not an exciting birthday present for me.
ReplyDeleteWell well, looks like Vile is sporting his Maverick Hunter X design again. He even has the red "V" on his helmet! Shame the story doesn't seem to have anything to do with the actual canon.
ReplyDeleteAlso, it's great that they're trying to go for a console-quality product and all, but phones have severe limitations as far as control schemes go, especially for platformer games with tight jumps. How are they going to tackle this issue?
Two words.
DeleteBluetooth Controller.
Two words.
DeleteInput Lag.
I just realized... Does anyone else immediately get Rockman Online vibes from this?
ReplyDeleteYeah, everybody's reusing content at the moment. SM3DW in SMM2, Pokémon Sw/Sh animations and models, etc. At least DMC5 did introduce V, which, while not exactly precise, was a fun change of pace.
DeleteFirst thing I thought of, especially seeing Maoh the Giant. Some of the UI feels similar too.
DeleteWhen it will be released in global (europe?) i will have to buy a new phone :)
ReplyDeleteLooks cool, could have been nice to have a version for console/pc but at least, it doesn't look cheap.
Playing with different characters can be fun and the story can be special because of that!
Hell yeah I'm hyped!
ReplyDeleteHowever many fans already butthurt about the game and just dislike the game immediately. This is really immature of them.
Just because X Legacy Collection sold well doesn't mean the support should be just one and done. I'm sure this game, while isn't much, still going to affect the development of future Mega Man titles. We must continue support the game to prove our point to Capcom, even if it's just a mere mobile game.
I think I'm more confused than hurt. Like, why is it an RPG platformer? Just don't make it open-bottom. Why does every single game (Zelda being the latest casualty) have to be an RPG?
DeleteWas'nt Zelda always a franchise strongly assiociated with RPG?
Delete@HyperSonicEXE this might be because it is a mobile game. The precise reflexe-based gameplay of a action platformer where you have to jump at just the right timing would be harder than a RPG on a phone.
DeleteI'll only support it if it is good.
DeleteIsn't Zelda an Action/Adventure? The only actual RPG Zelda from my memory is the second game, and the series hadn't established its footing yet.
DeleteWhy not just put it on PC as well? It looks pretty good but it's kind of annoying for it to be mobile exclusive since it's harder to control. It feels like putting everything on mobile is an excuse for it to not have to be a complete game.
ReplyDeleteI feel personally insulted.
ReplyDeleteThis might be the last straw.
Seems like a pretty good mobile game. you're overreacting.
DeleteWow another phone game. How exciting.
ReplyDeleteThis is disappointing. I sure hope this isn't the only thing up capcoms sleeve after they showed possible redemption with megaman 11. Because this seems like "same ol' capcom"
That was anounced and in developement before mm11 come out, so it is not a reflection of the post-mm11 state of affair.
DeleteActually looks rad. Love the in game graphics. Seeing Zero playable in this style looks so right.
ReplyDeletefighting with hunter progarm
ReplyDeleteI think Capcom reused concepts of Rockman Online, and used them in this game.
ReplyDeleteWoah, this is great! But I've played a game like this before, where it was a RPG platformer, but I can't remember the name...
ReplyDeleteSo basically, it's Xtreme 3 on mobile
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts exactly.
DeleteGone are the days where this "Xtreme 3" could succeed as a exclusive portable console sequel. So we're left with mobile.
"The game is aiming for home console quality"
ReplyDeleteThen why make it a mobile game in the first place? Capcom thinking out of their ass once again. This news make me so angry. I just hate mobile as a game platform in its entirety. I hate that's the tendency these days. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGHHH.
It's business.
DeleteThe mobile install base within the territories listed in the post is far, far higher than home consoles. This is all part of Capcom's strategy to capitalize on the Asian mobile market, which they have slowly but surely pursuing recently.
Which is probably the answer to why it's an RPG - purchases.
DeleteHere's hoping for a console port. But I'm fine with playing it with a controller on my phone too. Will it be free?
DeleteThis looks surprisingly good for a mobile game, though I can't help but feel a little disappointed that this isn't a full-fledged console/PC release.
ReplyDeleteOh well, at least there's controller support. I'll be keeping an eye on this one.
First of all, I'm actually happy with this. Well, as happy as I can be without seeing more gameplay, but on paper I like this idea and what video/screenshots there are look cool! And they aren't using the X8 character designs :)
ReplyDeleteBut please please please put it on PC. I mean, I'll probably play it on Android a bit if I have to, but I would be 1000% all over this on PC where I can play on a normal sized screen and without abhorrent touch controls.
Use the program Blustacks to run it on PC. That's what I'll be doing.
DeleteJust use one of the smartphone emulators like Blustacks. It's legal, you can hook up an controller that has a USB connection, and it'll be on a much bigger screen making it feel like a real title.
DeleteHey Protodude, is it the game that is supposed to excite us? Cause I'm not and I'm not the only one I guess
ReplyDeleteIn that case we'll have to wait and see what they announce after MM11.
DeleteWhy do they have to make uninteresting ugly 3-D model like this, why not 16-bit/32-bit graphic ? Retro-style games are really popular so what are they thinking ? lol
ReplyDeleteSerioulsy who is running Capcom ?
Get with the times old man.
DeleteSorry but if for you to be of his time it is to love 12 years old teen art/ugly 3D models is that you must be a millennial who is ready to eat anything that Capcom gives you, even shit. You are so naive little child.
DeleteSo games like Shovel Knight or The Messenger are not popular and are just played by oldies? Pixel art is probably one of the most popular styles at the moment, and Rockman has always been associated with this style. 3D graphic is a choice, not an evolution. Sorry but this a stupid comment.
DeleteRetro are popular with oldies (not just them, sure, but still) and us nerds, but they're not mainstream. Capcom is no indie developer, they have to aim for general audiences as well if they want to make megaman nearly as popular as it should. Also, most megaman games where made in sprites because this was the only option available when they where made.
DeleteNot saying that sprites are not good, far from it. But not everything not using it as to be deemed bad.
also, anon3, neither Ad hominem attacks nor internet cold reading are arguments (even if anon2 comment could be taken pretty harshly itself). And calling something a 12 years old drawing just because you don't personally like it just make you come of as the more immature of the two. Especially if you are...you know, old enough to not be a milenial. At our ages, we ought to know better than this.
Most people assiciate 3d (or 2,5d in the cases of sidescroller) with "more recent", so if the goal, in adition to fan-service for the established fanbase, is to interest people aside from the established fans, it is justified to go for 3d.
DeleteI love my sprites and pixel art, but really most games who use them are either doing it to purposedly invoke a retro aesthetic (like mm9 or sonic mania), are indie games who are not particularly aiming for mainstream audiences, or game who simply does'nt have the ressource to do otherwise. Not saying thoses game are bad, far from it. But it's not surprising that Capcom would choose 3d graphics.
They included characters from Command Mission, eh? Pretty cool! If they're going for a MHX feel, then the addition of Vile will definitely help with that.
ReplyDeleteI want the art more than the game.
ReplyDeleteI do think the current X artist is doing a fantastic job, with just a few minor nitpicks every now and then.
DeleteLike on one of the art pieces for the X collection, X had some odd shadow or something above his knee half up the leg that I can't figure out...
But the art looks good.
Well, I am cautiously interested.
ReplyDeleteThough I'd rather see a PS4 or Vita port to be honest while we wait for the inevitable X9
I'm interested and willing to give it the benefit of a doubt, being mobile and all.....but PLATFORMING on a phone? I can't even...
ReplyDeleteProbably why they go for a Rpg platformer rather than the usual "jump and shoot" platformer of the MM serie. Jumpin' and shooting would be a pain on phone.
DeleteAre those "recharge timers" I see on the weapons? eeeewwwwWWWW
ReplyDeleteSomeone PLEASE correct me
Here's hoping Nero L and co. come to a mobile MM game actually worth playing.
ReplyDeleteLooks like it could be alright, too bad it's not on Nintendo Switch instead of phones.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't look terrible honestly.
ReplyDeleteI doubt this is the main course though. Pretty sure the next console game just entered preproduction.
Are people here really so desperate for a new game that they are gonna take Capcom Phoneware?
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised by the reception people here are giving it. Only 5 years ago and the lot of you wouldve been bashing capcom for shoveling out a phone game.
Or is it suddenly ok because it's coming westward?
"been in development 1.5 years"
So it's been in development since before Mega Man 11 released, Which is the only thing that gives me a slight sliver of hope that Capcom has a proper X game planned, but if thats the case then this only proves that Capcom still has not learned their lesson from the Bad Box Art Mega Man backlash in Tekken X Street Fighter, which is that optics matter. And seeing Capcom toss out a throwaway phone game without knowing if there is anything else in the works, is terrible optics and will just make fans, like me, angry, since Capcom doesn't have the greatest track record in recent years, doing shit like xover and BoF6, which ruined a lot of goodwill.
You're focusing on the old negatives. I guess Monster Hunter World, DMC5, SFV's current state don't mean squat? Capcom wasn't great sure, and XOver was a definite crapshoot but Teppen is far from just a phone shovelware.
DeleteYou don't have to like phone games and as such it seems like Capcom isn't catering to you but please consider everything they do objectively, not just the stuff that suits your whim and fancy. There ARE those of us who do like their phone games like Teppen.
Don't know if reception would have been that bad 5 years ago, but assuming that it is the case, that would just mean we had become less whinny throughout the years, which is a good thing because realise that our bad reputation as a fandom was just as bad as Capcom missmanagement of the franchise when it come to spread interest in it. So as long as it is well done (which seems to be the case here, as oposed to Xover), i have all reasons to be happy about it.
DeleteTake this game as what it is meant to be. A little fanservice on the side for thoses of us who enjoy theses kind of thing, and a way to spread brand awareness (it's not a coîncidence that they realease it first in place where mobile install is way higher that home console ownings. It is not here "instead" of a proper megaman game.
I'm so happy I can't help but cry
ReplyDeleteSoo... basically it a mini version of rockman online. Looks ok, as long as it plays like a "X" game, I'm fine.
ReplyDeleteProtodude can you tell us if it will have collectible items? e.g. Heart tanks, sub tanks, capsule, boss weapons, etc.?
ReplyDeleteA mobile phone Mega Man X game? What a fucking waste. If they wanted to do a mobile phone Mega Man game, they should have made a Star Force Mega Man or Battle Networks game instead.
ReplyDeleteDifferent strokes for different folks. I was never partial to the Battle Network series but I think this looks neat. Mobile gaming is relatively popular in Japan from what I understand so as long as it's not like XOver or something, I can't be mad about it.
DeleteI could see it ported on the switch someday, but all in all i'm interested even if it's on the phone.
ReplyDeleteI think i'll get it if it come to Europe, i mean, that seem like a pretty good mobile game.
Of course if you're not interested in mobile games in the first place, it is not going to cater to you, but aside from that it seems nice so far.
Looks cool, but I won't ever play a game like this on my phone. Here's hoping they port it to the Switch.
ReplyDeleteTakin' a cue from Square-Enix, huh? I got into Final Fantasy Record Keeper, recently, and the concept is somewhat similar – though, this is an action platformer rather than a "battle simulator."
ReplyDeleteMan, this looks good… too good for my poor, outdated mobile device, to be sure. Hope it's as cool as it looks!
I used to play FFRK. I hope this game isn't anything like that. Extreme difficulty if you aren't lucky enough to get the draws you want, a stupid stamina gauge preventing you from playing on your own terms...
DeleteBut, it may very well be free to play, pay to win...
Time will tell I guess.
ReplyDeleteUgh more mobile games -.-' "Don't you have phones?" :P Well at least it isn't a fortnite clone, or fallout 76. Dollar store rockman still beats those out. I think I'll file this with x7 and the tiger megaman 2 game.
ReplyDelete
