Mega Man: The Wily Wars Sega Genesis Mini Gameplay (Featuring Kenny Omega)

If there were any doubts that Mega Man: The Wily Wars will be running at a silky-smooth 60Hz on the Sega Genisis/Mega Drive Mini, allow this clip from Geoff Keighley's E3 2019 show speak for itself. Geoff is joined by wrestler Kenny Omega, who is a huge Mega Man fan and avid video game player (his passion is part of his act, so to speak).

So what do you think? Will you be picking up one of these rad boys on September 19th? I'm not the *biggest* 16-bit era Sega fan out there, but I can't pass the chance up to grab – what is undoubtedly – the definitive version of The Wily Wars ever released in an official capacity.

  1. The Genesis version was a little off, the blaster was slow, movement was fast, it was different, but really, I enjoyed the game a lot. Especially when you get to Wily Tower and can mix the weapons up. If you've never played it, this is a steal considering the cost of buying the cart and modding a console to play it.

    1. This genesis mini is an absolute steal. I placed my deposit down as soon as I could. Sega gave RGT85 the opportunity to announce 10 games at a time and the list of games is awesome! I do agree the blaster seems a bit slower but the gameplay looks oh so buttery smooth.

    2. There isn't any need to mod the console if you have a Game Genie, since there's a code that can override the regional lock. That is, unless you're specifically talking about getting it to run at 60Hz.

  2. I don't know. I think the game selection wasn't good besides this game. It will be interesting to see if they're really using a USA version or just a hacked up version of the European game. We'll see.

The upscaling on this footage didn't look too good. You can tell when he pauses. Even in another video that I've seen. I also hope M2 allows you to shut the borders off unlike the SEGA Vintage Collections.

If you want something more authentic to real hardware with better upscaling and zero lag. Go for a Mega Sg.

  3. I want footage of the second Buster Rod-G fight. Then, we'll see how "silky-smooth" this "definitive" version really is.

Speaking of… it ain't "definitive," to me, unless you can swap boss weapons (the boss damage charts are already there) and slide (there's a Game Genie code and patch for that) between games. So, nyeh.

    1. With an amazing attitude like that, I doubt anyone's going to care if it's definitive "to you." So, nyeh.
