Capcom has released a report on their 2nd quarter earnings for the fiscal year today. Among topics discussed, the company reports that they are pleased with Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1+2's performance:
"Mega Man X Legacy Collection, Mega Man X Legacy Collection 2 and Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1+2 (for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and PC in all threecases) performed well thanks to a dedicated fan base and strong brand capabilities."
During this quarter Capcom profit achieved its highest levels in the company's history due to growth of digital content. Capcom explicitly mentioned Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1+2 contributed to this result.
In the same report Capcom mentioned that Pachislot Rockman Ability machines sold roughly 1,500 thousand units in a weak market environment. Sales are struggling due to the downturn in consumer confidence and dampening investments by the Pachinko/Pachislot hall operators.
All in all, it looks like Mega Man X Legacy Collection has been a success for Capcom. Now we can only hope that Mega Man 11 will turn up with equally good news when the next financial report hits.

I bought the Mega Man Legacy Collection only on pc, but I bought the Mega Man X Legacy Collection on the pc and the switch. Same for Mega Man 11.
ReplyDeleteNice. That's good news :)
ReplyDeleteThat is pretty good. Just remember that Mega Man 11's performance is still the decisive factor for the brand's future.
ReplyDeleteI remember this at least topping the charts on media creates the week of release. I also remember it being sold out several times at some stores.
ReplyDeleteEven so I'd like to see raw numbers not just Capcom gloating to investors.
Yes, VERY eager to hear Capcom's thoughts on MM11 sales.
ReplyDeleteGood glad to hear that.
ReplyDeleteI bought 7 copies of the game along with importing the japanese version of each 3 times just for collection purposes.
Worth every dime
X9 here we come!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteYA BOI
Awesome
ReplyDeleteZero's hand looks a little...odd there. But I agree with the sentiment that we shouldn't get our hopes too high until we see how 11 did, since the Legacy Collections, while a great addition to my Switch library, are slightly sloppy re-releases of pre-existing games, which definitely didn't cost too much to make. Even still, it does mean that if 11 does well, this gives Capcom a lot of incentive to not just write off the spin-off series that Mega Man's built up over the years, which is what I was somewhat afraid they'd do. Maybe if an X9 comes out and it does well, we'll get a Legends HD Collection to see if they should look into reviving Legends. I don't care what anyone says, Legends and ZX should not be allowed to die until they finish their stories.
ReplyDeleteI really doubt it would happen, but my dream is that we'd get a full remake of Legends 1, 2 and Misadventures of Tron Bonne ala Crash or Spyro, then using said engine and assets for a Legends 3. Of course, None of the legends games sold anywhere near the numbers of Spyro or Crash... so there's no incentive for Capcom to do so. But a man can dream.
DeleteHell yes! I've been begging for ZX3 for a long long time. I'm glad that X Legacy Collection sold well and I'm very sure MM11 will be the proof to Capcom that the MM fanbase is indeed not dead
DeleteHell Yea! I'm glad that X LC sold well, and if MM11 sold really well, it'll be a proof to Capcom that the MM fanbase isn't dead
DeleteThe Maverick Hunters score another victory!
ReplyDeleteI think the thing to remember here is that both games are a test. The X Legacy collection is testing the market for the X series and MM11 is testing how a new Mega Man game will hold out on the market. This is important to note because everybody seems to think MM11 is the only deciding factor to X9 but that's not true. Mm11 exists soley because of MM's first Legacy Collection. So an X9 only has a shot because X's Legacy Collection did well. Yes it will come into fruition so long as MM11 sells well but MM11 was never the only deciding factor, MM11 is only deciding whether a new game will do well in the franchise. So i think the legacy collections will continue whether MM11 fails or not.
ReplyDeleteI think MM11 is more of a deciding factor, for one Capcom developers said as much straight up. But more importantly MM11 had no choice but to gauge interest by using MMLC as data, showing how well a game made brand new from the ground up would do (MM11) is a much better way of judging how a brand new game made from the ground up would do (X9). The situations aren't comparable.
DeleteI know what you mean but I just have a gut feeling that both games are important. Doesn't much matter now though as at this point it is all up to MM11.
DeleteStop holding the franchise hostage to M11's sales Crapcom, give us X9!!
ReplyDeleteBut someone in the other comment section was talking about how amazingly unpopular Mega Man is!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear it. Good things happen when you do something with the franchise.
"Furthermore, Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection (for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and PC), a new title released in overseas markets, performed strongly" PERIOD -Capcom
Delete"while Mega Man X Legacy Collection, Mega Man X Legacy Collection 2 and Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1+2 (for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and PC in all three cases) performed well" -Capcom
Investors: You seemed to use less blunt "strong" language for the Mega Man collections than the Street Fighter collection.
Capcom: Well... it did well thanks to a dedicated fan base.
Investors: What does that mean? How big is the fanbase, what's the bottom line?
Capcom: Well I'll tell you, the brand was capable of selling a million units in the past, so some of these games have legacy, I'll tell you what... *sweats/starts to adjust business tie*
Investors: What does that mean? Are you talking about potential or something? Why are you even mentioning the "brand's" capabilities? That is a given when assessing the individual sells in aggregate.
Capcom: No, uhhh....well, look at these Monster Hunter sells, aren't they great!? And we have DMC5 and RE2:Remake right around the corner.
Investors: Those Monster Hunter sells are good, yes.
Rockman-Corner Commenters: Yeah wooo! Go Mega, crush those sells. To think certain someones thought this series was unpopular, look at you now, here's a napkin for that egg on your face.
Stop holding the franchise hostage to M11's sales Crapcom, give us X9!!
Ah good times. I wonder who will fight to keep this series chugging along this time internally at Capcom now that Keiji is gone...
as long as a business meets their fiscal and business goals on a project thats what defines success. not a trolls reaction on some blog.
Deleteyou have no idea what those benchmarks are. not the slightest clue. or even what all the variables are.
@AnonymousOctober 30, 2018 at 1:09 PM
DeleteNice little made up story there. Fact is so far Capcom has been happy with the sales of Mega Man games. That's more than can be said for some of their franchises this gen.
Also gotta point out that Capcom had them keep pumping out Mega Man games even without Inafune's involvement when he was part of the company too.
The concept that this franchise makes Capcom money is apparently too much for some people to comprehend.
Article title: "Capcom is Happy With Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1+2 Sales"
DeleteAnonymous commentor: "Let me tell you all the reasons this game didn't sell well and Capcom isn't happy with its sales."
I don't understand this reaction to the article.
The games sold well. The Classic Legacy collections sold well. Capcom is happy with it. That's something to be happy about. Why are you trying to spin it like Capcom is being dishonest with the sales of these games?
Do you want them to do poorly or something?
Being called a troll is like being called a racist in 2018. It holds absolutely no weight, it's just used by people who are easily offended about logic most of the time and can't argue a case.
Delete"as long as a business meets their fiscal and business goals on a project thats what defines success."
There are varying levels to success, breaking even can be considered successful in some cases. Let me try and make this simple, if you considered a profit of 50$ on a 100$ investment a success, would you put more effort into the project's successor over if you made 1000$ profit? Honest to lord sincere question.
"you have no idea what those benchmarks are. not the slightest clue. or even what all the variables are."
True I'm operating on hunches but I think I'll trust my gutts for now.
"Being called a troll is like being called a racist in 2018. It holds absolutely no weight, it's just used by people who are easily offended about logic most of the time and can't argue a case."
DeleteOh, yeah, sure. Racism just completely ceased to exist in this day and age. Seriously, that has to be one of the worst, downright factually incorrect analogies ever.
Oh, yeah, sure. Racism just completely ceased to exist in this day and age if someone suggests people over abuse the term as a character assassination technique with no evidence because they fail to make a coherent argument often.-finished that bit for ya.
DeleteThere's one analogy and it is literally impossible for an analogy to be factually incorrect on the basis of being an analogy it can only be weakened, unless you mean the subject of the analogy itself is incorrect. In which case.
Yeah false accusations of racism just completely ceased to exist in this day and age because actual racism exist.
I just hope they don't have similar expectations for future collections. A Battle Network, Legends or Mega Man Zero Collection could set the franchise back another decade if it failed to measure up, because it probably would.
ReplyDeletePretty sure the Battle Network series was more profitable than the X series.
DeleteI dunno if those games would work as well for a collection, but it's been a while since that series has been around, so it's possible.
