Surprise! Coming in late 2018 to all current-gen platforms.
We're not done yet! Mega Man 11 is on the cover of this month's Game Informer:
All month long Game Informer will be bringing us exclusive look at Mega Man 11's development via http://www.gameinformer.com/p/megaman.aspx
UPDATE: The title of the Japanese version is Rockman 11: The Gears of Fate!!
Stay tuned for more news!
I never thought we'd see this day, but how to feel? It's still early footage so....
ReplyDeleteI think you were right when you said the newer collection has a hint towards this.
ReplyDeleteHOLY SHIT
ReplyDeleteI was worried that Capcom might pull a stupid as usual BUT LO AND BEHOLD, AN ACTUAL NEW GAME THAT ISN'T A LOW-EFFORT MOBILE THING
While it's awesome we're getting a genuine game and not just 8 bit either, I'm surprised they didn't use the designs from smash bros. The way sakurai described capcom being very hands on with that deisng (and all the trophies in the had the same redesign too), I figured we'd see it in a game too. Still, new classic mega man!
ReplyDeleteYou can see some bits of inspiration from SSB4 in the concept. But in SSB4, they were trying to being the 8-bit sprite to life, while MM11 is trying to be like his official art.
DeleteMy inner 6 year old couldn't be happier, getting the X games and Mega Man 11 day 1.
ReplyDeleteThis looks pretty cool. And Finally Nintendo is getting some Mega Man love.
ReplyDeleteNot the megaman x9, legends 3, and zx 3 i expected but some new is always welcomed. I like this updated look to the series very nice. Loooking forward to this late next year
ReplyDeleteX turns 25 next year so who knows...?!
DeleteI never scream with excitement. But, for this, I most certainly did.
ReplyDeleteI didn't even know I wanted this, until I saw that amazing trailer!
Here are my thoughts, it needs polish but good foundation and huge sigh of relief this isn't A. 8-bit B. Based on that cartoon by man of action or whatever.
ReplyDeletewhat's wrong with 8-bit?
Delete@Erik: Everything at this point. To resurrect the franchise with a new 8-bit title after essentially 7 years of purgatory would not inspire confidence in the fanbase, and would turn off potential newcomers to the series - the latter being HUGELY important, considering even making MM11 is a huge risk at this point.
DeleteThe director and lead artist themselves stated as much during the stream.
MM11 needs all the support it can get, hence why Capcom is already going all-out with releasing it multi-platform even on PC.
Nothing's wrong with it; it's just been overdone as fuck, especially with Megaman. I love spaghetti, but that doesn't mean I want to eat it for every single goddamn meal on every single goddamn day.
DeleteYes, but if you wanted spaghetti, you'd probably want it made with spaghetti pasta. If you ordered pasta and got Rigatoni pasta, you may or may not enjoy it more than the pasta, but if you wanted rigatoni, you would have ordered it!
DeleteStick to the recipe!
That running animation
ReplyDeleteI hope so. I want FMV just like Rockman 8!
Delete...Is this real? Am I in the real timeline? Mega Man 11? It's here? FINALLY?!
ReplyDeleteThe fact it's going to be on all major platforms is friggin' phenomenal. Now all they need to do is make it a great game, and we're all set.
X9 when? :v
ReplyDeleteVery happy that I was wrong! I don't know if I'm 100% sold on the graphics, but I'm glad they didn't default to NES-style again (much as I love MM10).
ReplyDeleteHoly shit! A non 8-bit sequel?! My prayers have been answered! Now if only we could get MMX9 and Legends 3, that would be really cool.
ReplyDeletegreat, it's 3d.. good to see them getting use out of those old mega man universe assets.
ReplyDelete3D is inherently bad for 2D games, especially for precision games. I get the feeling it's going to be klunky.
It looks great, like the update fans are always asking for... but it's likely going to play oddly, joining MM7 and 8 as mega man games that devides fans and doesn't quite meet expectations. I will be judging it in comparison to MM10 and will wait to find out which version runs better.
Disagreed, Maverick Hunter X and Powered Up are great even just within the Mega Man franchise.
DeleteI loved MMPU and enjoyed MHX but engine wise they controlled worse and slower than the originals. The physics were off in both, etc. Mega Man 11 looks like it has tighter gameplay though than the other 2D/3D, so I'm relieved, but I kinda wish it was HD 2D art instead.
DeleteStill hyped for it though.
As a Mega Man X fan who loved my Mega Man 7, Mega Man 8 and pirate Rockman & Forte, I'm really really happy right now. I learned to love the 8-bit games as an adult, but when Mega Man 9 was released, I was angry.
DeleteWhile I'm happy, I'm also sad. MM11 isn't the Megaman I wanted, it's visually, audibly, and even stylishly not Classic. It all in all looks more akin to Mighty No. 9. I'm holding out that it will hopefully be better than the trailers are showing because as it stands, I'm not interested. I also am a bit let down that for something like the 30th, they only announce more collections and one, numeral uno, game. Megaman 11. Certainly in the 7+ years following the mass Megaman Cancellation spree, they could have began work on more than one Megaman franchise. I know quite frankly a lot of fans would have preferred an MMX9 or a Legends 2. Heck even a BN7 or a Star Force 4. ZX could use a 3rd game too! Classic was to milked at the end there with 9 and 10. It's got more games than the other series, hence why they could use more love. Oh well, hopefully more trailers paint this MM11 in a good light and might sway my opinion to get it, but as mentioned earlier. Capcom hasn't won me over with their new game and so I won't be getting MM11. No matter how cute the new Roll redesign is.
ReplyDelete"it's visually, audibly, and even stylishly not Classic. It all in all looks more akin to Mighty No. 9."
DeleteI gotta ask, would you be feeling this way if Mighty No. 9 never existed?
Honestly, I think you are exaggerating a bit here with the comparison between MM11 and MN9. I don't see it looking like MN9 at all. In fact, MM11 is everything MN9 tried to be. This new game is already showing more promising in one brief trailer than MN9 did in all its existence. It is a shame you cannot recognize this new game we are going to get, this is the most interesting Classic Mega Man game since MM8. You should give it a chance, at least.
DeleteOne more thing: Mega Man Classic is receiving a new game here because it is the most important of the franchises and Mega Man was pretty much dead before these news. How do you resurrect a franchise without giving the main series a new game? You have to understand other MM series weren't a good option here, outside of maybe X since it is the second most important one.
On another note, "Legends 2" already exists. Just saying.
the prodigal son has returned!!!
ReplyDeleteSo that art being included in the collection was an intentional thing. The artist expressed surprise at how we quickly figured out that he drew the art.
ReplyDelete"I feel like an anime fan... with a good series to look forward to"
ReplyDeleteToday is a great day for the Mega Man franchise. We are finally seeing some signs of life in it. I can't wait to play MM11, and I can only hope that MMX9 and others will follow. Let us all play for the Blue Bomber's success.

ReplyDeleteThat music tho.....gave me chills!!
ReplyDeleteX9 OR RIOT! But actually, as much as I want that (in 16-bit, fiteme), this looks really great! Of course, gameplay is what matters but I like how they're going for the right mixture of "cute and cool" in their designs. Maybe I'm just getting confirmation bias, but it kinda look like maybe they're trying to translate the NES mechanics and metrics to 3D, like Bloodstained is doing from SotN. Hopefully so, that's the best feel for Megaman.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see more, I'm very excited!
I am so friggin happy.
ReplyDeleteI don't want to jump the gun, but this goes a long way Capcom. Thank you.
If this does well, I hope we see more.
About damn time! Really hyped about this!
ReplyDeleteThe fact that the artist was going to make it 2D sprites but changed made this sequel made me pretty angry.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Capcom can save by actually using it to connect with X series in a more solid way, but I don't think they will, so, to me, this game will be bad, like Sonic 4.
Hope I'm wrong.
This is my first time checking Rockman Corner in 7 years. I can't believe the Blue Bomber is finally back, and Capcom actually seems intent on giving him the love he deserves this time around. So glad this blog is still around. I hope to be seeing a lot more Mega Man news in the coming years!
ReplyDeleteWow. Just wow. And I love the art style it's a very retro yet very modern and simple.--Jaxel
ReplyDeleteI'm not too enthusiastic about the 2.5-D graphics, but the footage at least indicates that the gameplay is faster than previous UP-RES Megaman-ish games like Megaman 8 or Mighty No.9.
ReplyDeleteBut, HEY! It's coming to the Switch so I'll actually have the chance to play it for myself.
Hi Protodude. Did you get my email about the fangame petition? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteCopypasting my initial comment:
ReplyDelete"I don't know if it's because I just woke up from a nap or because of how jaded I've become, but there was no visible reaction from me upon seeing this trailer. Don't get me wrong, I really like what I see, I am really hoping for the best with this game, and I am looking forward to finally ending my Mega Man/Capcom merchandise boycott. But yeah, me being happy at seeing what appears to be honest-to-god Mega Man again is not me significantly changing my opinion with regards to how Capcom has been handling things for a while, and I am FAR from ready to give them the benefit of the doubt on anything."
I see a lot of Sakurai's Smash Bros design in this new MM design
ReplyDeleteIt's not Sakurai's design the Smash Mega Man was originally designed by Capcom to begin with.
DeleteWell, I knew both worked close with each other & thought in was a lot more of sakurai influence when modernizing classic Mega :/
Delete@AnonymousDecember 4, 2017 at 3:29 PM
DeleteYou have a source for that claim?
No. We both know that it's next to impossible to find the original source outside of the credits for Higurashi Ryuuji for the appearance (not gameplay or direction) of Mega Man from a game that barely has any information about credits to that of any sort for any character, with the few that exists consisting of excerpts from interviews or whatnot more than 5 years ago.
DeleteThe inevitable Mega Man 35th official complete works will bring all this to light. (fingers crossed)
DeleteI JUST SCREAM LIKE A SCHOOLGIRL!!!! IS MEGA MAN 11!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI completely wrote off any hope I had for the Megaman series. Although I'm more a fan of the X/Legends series, this is beyond exciting to see.
ReplyDeleteProtodude, You were RIGHT to be suspicious of both that out-of-place Mega Man concept art, AND the Roll Nendoroid. Capcom, You were teasing this over the past few months without even needing to say a thing!
ReplyDeleteTAKE THAT MIGHTY NO. 9!
ReplyDeleteironic
DeleteGostei muito do game!
ReplyDeleteAlso, speculation on the robot master... I say brick man? --Jaxel
ReplyDeleteI'm just utterly speechless right now. : 0
ReplyDelete"Late 2018"
ReplyDeletePlenty of time to get cancelled.
This made me laugh more then it really should XD
Delete*crying happily* A new Megaman game... it lives! IT LIVES!!!
ReplyDeleteYo, does anyone know where I could find a high res version of that Game Informer cover? I NEED a poster print of that on my wall.

DeleteThis is the biggest I could find.
Well, that was surprising. And it looks good which is also surprising. For a long time, I've thought that 2.5D is where Capcom should have been going with Mega Man. I think that Capcom was going the right direction with Mega Man Network Transmission (even though it was mediocre) and X8, and I am glad to see that they finally decided to try it again with the Classic series. Personally, I would have rather seen an epic Metroidvania-styled ZX3 for consoles or seen them get around to finally making X9, but I guess MM11 is a good start. Glad to see that Mega Man's 30th wasn't reduced to another merch release.
ReplyDeleteWOW ! I still miss Inafune and Inti Creates but... I like the new Rockman team ! My only concern is the sound composer, Ryo Yoshii...he made music for Monster Hunter and Resident Evil 5...meh....
ReplyDeleteI cross my finger for a fantastic soundtrack like the Shovel Knight one
I DON'T CARE IF THIS IS CRAP OR IF I'M GONNA CRY LIKE AN ANIME FAN ON PROM NIGHT, I NEED THIIIS!!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm a bit happy for this news. The animation (specifically Rock's walk cycle) needs some fine tuning. Ultimately, I'm sad for this as 30th anniversary news. Would have been cool if Mega Man and some of the other parts (X, Legends, Battle Network, etc.) got a new game too. They had 7 years of really nothing Mega Man related to come up with something to refresh the entire franchise. Standard Capcom business practice dictates that if the X collection sells well, we'll get a new X game.
ReplyDeleteso rock regains back his slide and charge shot. yay, i guess? and late 2018. time to get me a switch.
ReplyDeleteThis is definitely some amazing news. For starters, I'm glad that this didn't end up being anything like Rockman Xover. Two, I'm glad that it's not 8-bit. While I did enjoy Mega Man 9 and 10 (despite my grievances with the former), it started to get to the point where it started to be just a tad overused. Three, I'm glad to see that Mega Man has the charge and slide again. That was one of the things that pissed me off the most about 9; the fact that they removed those abilities for no other reason than to appease Mega Man 2 fanboys (and don't even get me started on how overrated that game is). Sure, Proto Man was given those abilities, but still.
ReplyDeleteHmm... Speaking of which, I wonder if this means he won't be playable this time around? If he is, then they're going to have to give him a much more unique playstyle this time around. I also hope Bass won't be left out.
Turn this into the new megaman show!
ReplyDeleteI am happy that they brought back Rockman from the dead. Living with mighty no.9 for the time being seemed a terrible prospect, unfortunately. The walking animation cycle needs a change to something like mega man x for the SNES or even mega man 7. I am also happy that they are taking some design cues from 7, 8 and R&Bass. It really looks like a new installment. The japanese producers also made clear that they are aware of the fans on internet; I wonder how much guys like protodude and heatman knew about this in advance.
ReplyDeleteOh man. This gives me a lot of hope! Maybe we could still have an X game around the Elf Wars down the road. Who knows?
ReplyDeleteJust to add my two cents...I really hope the story is consciously conceived with previous and future story elements considered. There is an underlying story beneath the jumping and shooting exterior, and I don't want to necessarily wait til I'm 70 to see Mega Man 20 bridge any gaps or fill any holes in the overall timeline. lol
ReplyDeleteI believe this to be the beginning of a renaissance for the series. This will test the waters and hopefully it floats. Along with the new X Collection (I assume it will be) coming out, that will roll out the red carpet for an X9 after getting people caught up, ala the Legacy Collections before this. Of course, this has to do well for an X9 to be considered, but something tells me this is only the beginning. Exciting time to be a Mega Man fan, really. Heck, good or bad, we have that new cartoon to look forward to as well.
