Mega Man-Inspired Super Mighty Power Man Kickstarter Launches

The Kickstarter campaign for Box Hedge Games' Super Mighty Power Man – a Mega Man-inspired 2D action platformer – has gone live. Box Hedge are asking for $58,362 to make it happen. The game is aiming to hit Nintendo Switch, Nintendo 3DS and PC, with stretch goals planned for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions.

Here's a small snippet of the campaign's overview:

Super Mighty Power Man is greatly inspired by the famous Mega Man game series as well as others including: Castlevania, Contra, Duck Tales, Kirby, Super Mario Bros. and more recent ones like VVVVVV, Retro City Rampage and Shovel Knight.

Besides being a true love letter to the NES legendary gaming era, it is above all a tribute to the renowned Blue Bomber and our passion for such games that has stayed with us since childhood.
Take control of Corey, a boy who accidentally finds himself caught in a most unexpected adventure to save the galaxy. Helped by a clumsy extraterrestrial robot named Robby, and armed with a mysterious device called ‘The Power Grasp’, Corey must defend the Earth from the spreading evil forces of General Mok. He will need to fight (and jump) his way through deadly environments, hordes of monsters, and other hazardous traps to free occupied planets from the tyranny of his enemy’s lieutenants.

‘The Power Grasp’ grants Corey superhuman powers, allowing him to merge with other lifeforms and become one of the many forms of Super Mighty Power Man!

Seems pretty cool! Check out the full campaign here.

  1. My apologies, but it's horrible XD. I prefer much better projects like megaman unlimited or megaman x corrupted, the ones that really make you feel like in the old days.

  2. I hope the best for them but after Mighty No. 9 and Yooka Laylee. I'm gonna stay away from kickstarter.

    1. Kickstarter isn´t the problem, the patrons would be more reflexive in apport their money to new proyects.

    2. You can stay away form kickstarter.. I am going to play it but I am not going to pay kickstarter anyway. :)

    3. Wow. Yeah, yeah, Mighty No.9, I've heard it all before. Unwarranted, but I've heard it. But Yooka-Laylee? Goodness, what was wrong with that game?

  3. Not a fan of the character design, but man that gameplay looks awesome. Not something i'd back, but i'll keep a cautiously close eye on this one.

  4. I feel that many people are really salty because of the Kickstarter, I don't thinkis going to be really a bad game, but I really wonder what were they thinking by using the word "Mighty" on the title for a game founded throught KS and that's also inspired by Mega Man.

  5. Looks nice but, people that think Mega Man is called Mega Man?Rockman to literally represent an adult male instead of symbolizing man(as in humankind) I feel like the point flies over their head. Well I guess Spash Woman is partly responsible for that crappy conception.

    1. Did they said anything about MegaMan being called thus for this reason?
also this "crappy conception" i think, is just due to people being familiar with superhero naming where the guy get a somethinman name depending on whether they're male/female adult/teen. (that, and the fact that all MegaMan before ZX hapened to be guys, which probably lead people to assume they where called like this because they where guys.) Now considering that he is not called MegaBoy, i think it's quite easy to notice that the "Man" does'nt refer to his âge.

    2. Why are you typing Mega Man in CamelCase? It's never been like that. It's either "Mega Man" or "Megaman", ya poseur. :p

  6. Once bitten twice shy, after No. 9 I don't trust kickstarters anymore

  7. Why does ape form have a tail?

    1. I ask myself this same question when I see how Dixie Kong has no tail which makes sense, but for some reason Diddy Kong has one

    2. I don't think those are forms, could be wrong though.

  8. After things like MN9 and Yooka Laylee these spiritual successor kick starters have pretty much all bombed. Take a look at the failed Parappa spiritual successor for instance.

    This isn't meeting funding.

  9. Most, if not all of Megaman-inspired games which are funded via Kickstarter didn't end so well. First we have Mighty no. 9, and then..... Target Acquired, which disappeared without anyone knowing. And now, there's this? I hope this one can make it.

  10. People seem to forget Shovel Knight as an amazing spiritual successor kick-starter game. This could have that potential.

  11. I can't put my finger on exactly what's missing, but this game just doesn't have the Mega Man vibe I was hoping for. Best of luck to the devs though.

  12. I like how it's a Switch/3DS game first and foremost.
It's like the antithesis of Capcom who avoids Nintendo deliberately despite losing millions.

    1. Actually Capcom made a substantial profit this year (Switch year) so that would be a misleading statement.

You could say in spite of making millions. Although I think targeting multiplatform and prioritizing PS4 and PC would make them more money than prioritizing Nintendo and Switch as well as being more beneficial to Capcom as allies, since Sony and the PC market are not know for stabbing their partners in the back. Can't really say the same for Nintendo.

Now you could ask why the heck doesn't Capcom support the infinitely better GOG PC market place outside of the stifling steam store but what are you gonna do...

    2. i'll support since it's for the switch. i won't go putting my yearly salary in it, but i'll give a little something.

  14. Kind of looks like Mega Man with Power Blade 2's "suit" gimmick thrown in. It definitely looks like a lot of fun. And, it's pretty!

  15. See, what y'all are missing here is, there's visible product on display!

I get it, it's cool to crap all over Mighty/Kickstarter but don't forget, all we got with that was a screenshot and a promise.

These guys have obvious progress already, and it's not like they're asking for an extreme amount either.

    1. I noticed that too, before looking at the video, i thought "let's be careful, but looking at the trailer, it seem like they're already made some progress in making the game.
Now i get why one would be warry after one or two disapointement with kickstarter. i think people should just avoid giving large sums if they don't want to take too much risk. (depending on one's own budget and how much interest they have on the thing, of course.)

    2. "all we got with that was a screenshot and a promise."

Just saying originally, everything in MN9's Kickstarter was concept art, and their promises were fulfilled, but that mileage varies depending on who you ask. Simply too much salt for reason. BUT, your point is taken. Their game is up and running and looks really nice, if you ask me. I'm considering backing!

C'mon everyone, your bitter Kickstarter experiences shouldn't have stopped you from enjoying the actual MN9 game (which it did,) and it shouldn't influence future projects either.

  16. I think the designs are a bit unpolished, gameplay looks fine but it would be better if they make it a little bit faster, it seems quite slow right now

  17. Super Mighty Power Robot Hyper Mega Man 4 lyfe!

  18. The name comes off as a parody of MN9. To the people all upset at Kickstarter, I get it. A lot of Kickstarter projects bombed, but the thing is Kickstarter isn't a store or an investment. If you feel the project has potential, donate. I feel as if people got so disillusioned by MN9 that all Kickstarter projects are terrible when that's obviously not true in every case. =/

  19. I say good luck to them, and I'll support the game when it comes out.

  20. Looks great! I hope the Kickstarter goes well.

  21. FYI they cancelled their kickstarter a few hours ago.
