Fan-Project Aims to Create a Fifth Mega Man Zero

I had to be really careful with that title. I tried my best.

Anyway, the folks at Rockman Lab – the same team that are bringing us "Mega Man ZX Prequel" – are in the midst of developing a fan-made Mega Man Zero 5. The project aims to be an authentic, hypothetical fifth entry in the Zero series. It will feature a new story, original stages, enemies and music. It's been in development since 2012 but today we have our first actual look at the fan-game in action. Check out the first preview trailer above.

Regular updates and more information can be found at Rockman Lab's official Z5 hub here. I'm really looking forward to getting my hands on this. More Zero is always a good thing.

  1. Sweet, I'm game. I'd rather have a solid game coming out of left field with a proper trailer than a fangame with a FB page that never comes out.

  2. The Zero games were nice, but... why can't we just let the story end? So long as the gameplay's solid I guess.

    1. That's because the end of MMZ4 showed Zero's helmet...without Zero wearing it. That means he probably took it off or it fell off. The ending was meant to be ambiguous.

  3. I'm all for authenticity, but they have literally no reason to not increase the screen size.

  4. I mean...didnt Zero die?

  5. So... They want to make a sequel to a series that wrapped up nicely with a beautiful bow on it, a series that has no need to continue because the story has been told. Can they at least leave Zero dead and have it star a young upstart that takes up the mantle of hero? I feel like this game has no reason to be and even if they made an official sequel I would call it needless.

    1. No one would be interested in an ironic Mega Man "Zero" 5 with "Zero dead" starring "a young upstart" that would completely defeat the purpose of the title.

Even if it didn't defeat the purpose out of irony it'd defeat it out of obscurity, because MMZ sequel fan games starring other more obscure characters are a dime a dozen.

    2. We already have that. It's called ZX, and it mostly sucks.

  6. I pray CAPCOM never makes a MMZ5! The story has an end. Should leave it at that instead of just dragging on :/

    1. It does but not really, it ended ambiguously and has a huge gap of unknown/non experienced story between it and ZX.

In fact Inti outright said they made the ending ambiguous specifically to leave room for a sequel in case they were forced to make one. They've said it on interviews posted on this sight they've said it in the official complete works and they've said it in Q&A sessions at panels.

    2. Exactly "in case they were forced too". To me, that means they were comfortable with 4 being the final entry. The way CAPCOM was is probably why Inti made it ambiguous of an ending. They seen how CAPCOM was with the X series & probably just played it safe in case higher ups came & were like "make another".

  9. Okay. As much as I don't like the idea of a fifth game (due to the ending of the fourth), I have to say... I'm rather interested in seeing what the Nightmare Virus and Area Zero has to do with Neo Arcadia.
(I have a weird soft-spot for Mega Mna X6, even though it's really not that good of a game.)

    1. The universe wouldn't allow you to compliment X6, hence the typo.

I blame that little caveat at the end of your sentence there.

If you are going to proclaim your like for X6 than say it with passion, there are no inbetweens.

I HAVE A SOFT SPOT FOR MEGA MAN X6! There much better.

  10. I believe this to not be a good decision. Rockman Zero is a closed story, and it is a excellent tetralogy just as it is.

Unless they want to make a game focused on the between events with ZX. I wouldn't call it Zero5 though.
