UPDATE (5/10): Ratings have appeared in Taiwan for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
Hold onto your butts: Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 has been rated in Korea for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. It will allegedly contain Mega Man 7, Mega Man 8, Mega Man 9 and Mega Man 10. Yep; Mega Man 9 and 10.
Now, it's too soon to say which version of Mega Man 8 will be included (PSX or Saturn) and whether or not Mega Man & Bass will make the cut. But honestly, just four games? There's gotta be a little something else in there (or there should be). Pending an official announcement from Capcom, we can only speculate.
Stay tuned for more updates! Hopefully we'll have news sooner than later.

And the fighting games are missing too, they were in the Anniversary Collection, not having them here is lazy. Let's hope no more emulation problems like the last time.
ReplyDeleteWhat emulation problems? I got the Legacy Collection on Steam, and it works just fine for me.
DeleteI think he means like the Anniversary Collection. Also Legacy Collection did have some issues at launch as well.
DeleteThe PS4 version had some wicked framerate issues in Mega Man 5 (US ROM only, strangely enough) and there were some other weird issues here-and-there.
DeleteMM7 had Mode 7 issues that affects the ending. Power Battle uses CPS1 version.
DeleteOkay, but why not Battle and Chase?
ReplyDeleteWhy not tell that to Capcom Forum over there.
DeleteWhat if that something else...
ReplyDelete...is Mega Man's Soccer?
This is pretty significant since 9 & 10 were only available via eshop.
ReplyDeletethey're already still available in Xbox Live Arcade on the Xbox 360 & Xbox 1
DeleteAlso still on PS3 and can be played on PS4 via PSNow. Arguably 9 and 10 are the least significant inclusion.
DeleteIf this version of 9 and 10 removes the filter that blurs the graphics that would make it significant for me.
DeleteMaybe add the power/battle fighters or battle and chase as a bonus.I feel like they may include an option for mega man 8 where you can switch between both versions. Also maybe we'll find out the secret in the MegaMan 9 endless mode.
ReplyDeleteI'd buy it just to finally have a physical copy of 9 and 10.
ReplyDeleteNever had the change of playing 9 and 10 (due to now having consoles for that) So I would really like this!
ReplyDeleteBut... my Inner European Ragey self is already preparing its anger for when EU doesn't get a physical release.
PS4 is region free, so at least you can import if EU doesn't do a local release.
DeleteHow bout a proper localization of SNES MM&B?
ReplyDeleteTell that to Capcom Forum over there.
DeleteTell that to Capcom Forum over there huh?
DeleteI don't know about anyone else, but as much as I'd love for the Saturn version of Mega Man 8 to be included in this collection, I don't think there's any way in hell that it's gonna happen.
ReplyDeleteAnd why no for New 3ds :(
ReplyDeleteI guess I lucked out in holding off on buying the Legacy Collection. They better add in some decent extra content and hopefully an official translated SNES version of MM&B.
ReplyDeleteTell that to Capcom Forum over there please?
DeleteHopefully its the saturn version of Mega Man 8
ReplyDeleteSUPER unlikely it'd be the Saturn version of 8, awesome as thatd be. We should also have uncompressed versions of the cutscenes by now, if Sonic CD could do it.
ReplyDeleteTrue unfortunately, it'd be safe to assume it'll be the psone version.
DeleteMega Man 7 is an SNES game and there's no Nintendo version of the collection come on the is SO ridiculous
ReplyDeleteXbox is only popular in the west, why there's no Switch version then ? The Switch is already more popular than Xbox brand in Japan
ReplyDeleteI personally believe the Switch isn't going to be all that much popular just like Xbox in the long run. It's appeal is to Nintendo fans pretty much exclusively, since the casual market really isn't interested in gimmicks all that much anymore.
DeleteThe only appealing software the Switch has going for it is Zelda, Mario, Xeblade and maybe Sonic (although multi platform) and Fire Emblem... Smash will not be all that popular since I think casuals (the sales) lost the hype for it after Smash4, because Smash4 basically spoiled everyone, no one will get hyped for Smash5 for one or two fan favorite characters anymore, they probably would be content with them just being put in Smash4 as DLC.
The only way the Switch could possibly compete is if they milk the hell out of Pokemon, Pokemon Purple and Orange, Pokemon Stadium 3, Pokken 2, Pokemon Puzzle world, Pokemon Online... etc etc It'll make the Switch popular but at least to people like me still unappealing.
Don't say that. You are too jumping to the conclusion. Just wait for E3 this summer for sure then we will know the answer. Right now, do not GUESS. I hate GUESS. COME ON!
DeleteThey might surprise us later. Be patient.
«but at least to people like me still unappealing.»
DeleteHaha this is just YOUR opinion
«The only way the Switch could possibly compete is if they milk the hell out of Pokemon»
The Switch WILL have Pokémon games on it in the near future
«It's appeal is to Nintendo fans pretty much exclusively, since the casual market really isn't interested in gimmicks all that much anymore.»
SO explain me this :

and

but yea since you «personally believe the Switch isn't going to be all that much popular just like Xbox in the long run», then you are «probably right» because you seem the be convinced that you have the truth
«Haha this is just YOUR opinion»
DeleteI know thaaaat..... Hm....?
«The Switch WILL have Pokémon games on it in the near future»
Well Nintendo milks it enough and I think The Switch is saved, not in my eyes but financially I think so.

Um... Limited supply run due to low manufacturing based on estimates from Nintendo's sales team to be reserved in quantity, after the rocky finish of their previous large investment (the WIIU), causing widespread stock shortages and fast sales.
I should put a disclaimer that this is just my guess, since you seem to think that I think I "have the truth".
Just a little side note how does you showing me early sales help counter the case that I think in the long run The Switch won't do so well probably, outside of some previsions? Also how is me saying it pretty much appeals to Nintendo fans exclusively get debunked by you showing me Mario selling? Mario..... You know the face of Nintendo and pretty much gaming... Not even Zelda the "killer app" Mario.... An enhanced port of Mario Kart 8 at that..... Sigh... anyway.
WIIU did fairly well sales wise in the beginning, selling all of it's shipment to America and more unites than that in Japan and another 100 thousand in EU, making it neally a million seller within about a month something rare for Nintendo. Look at it now though, dead as a fried chicken.
Kind of a weak collection... Personally I don't like 9 & 10, so even weaker for me. That said... I know I'd still buy it. The challenges made with MM7 and MM8 alone would be worth it to me.
ReplyDeletePlenty they could add to make it interesting and bigger, the gameboy games (at the very least V), Wily Wars, and obviously as it's been mentioned Rockman and Forte. Then there's Soccer, Battle and Chase, and Power Fighters. Talk about a potential missed opportunity.
ReplyDeleteThey are still 2 games shy of the last legacy collection... They need to make a new megaman game to launch with this.
ReplyDeleteGet this.
ReplyDeleteAdd Power Battles and Power Fighters with online co-op.
Seriously, give us an online Mega Man game in some capacity already. Or at least, DON'T disable Share Play so we can hand controllers over and play local co-op online.
no switch version no buy
ReplyDeleteIt is too early to say. Remember, they released first version on PS4 and XBOX first then 3DS ? They might do that to 3DS and Switch after they release PS4, PC, and XBOX first. Just be patient and hopefully they surprise us something later.
DeleteTo those wondering about the absence of Nintendo Switch, remember that Korea does not have that system officially, so there's little reason to list a platform that no one can even own yet. I cannot explain why the 3DS is missing, though. Its version of Mega Man Legacy Collection sold the most.
ReplyDeleteHowever, with The Disney Afternoon Collection skipping both the 3DS and Switch, I'm not holding out much hope for this collection to be on a Nintendo platform either.
maybe it's gonna be released later on 3DS.
DeleteI'd really like to see powered up included but that's probably not gonna happen.
ReplyDelete9 and 10 on PC finally?? My god, I'll finally have a chance to play these. I'd been hoping for separate solo releases for years but this might be even better.
ReplyDeleteWhile I am happy to see 9 and 10 get a re-release, I would also really like to see Mega Man & Bass and Wily Tower included as well. Also, I would like to see them give the player an option to choose the version of Mega Man 8. The differences are few, so it shouldn't be that big of a deal to set up the assets so both versions can be playable.
ReplyDeleteIt's actually easier to remake the game, than to try to make a functional SEGA Saturn emulator to run it. Not saying it's impossible, but it's definitely challenging.
DeleteIIRC, they actually coded a new engine for Legacy Collection 1 and only used the assets from the ROMs. (i.e. They were essentially remakes and not directly emulated.) Assuming that they do the same thing for Legacy Collection 2, then they won't even need a Saturn emulator. Since the engine is supposedly coded from scratch, I believe it would just be a matter of adding the Saturn music, graphics, etc. to the new PSX engine or vice-versa.
DeleteI'm still holding out for the "Megaman Ultimate-Not-On-Nintendo-Because-We're-A-Bunch-Of-A-Holes-Collection".
ReplyDeleteNeeds Mega Man and Bass.
ReplyDeleteIf they're that desperate for games, they could try porting in Street Fighter X Mega Man or one of the sports spin-offs (Soccer, Battle and Chase or Rockboard.)
If they make this available for the 3ds id buy in heart beat just for megaman 9 and 10 since they are my favorite "new" megaman games currently
ReplyDeleteNot to complain, but how in the world are 9 and 10 part of any "legacy?" I thought the idea behind the original Legacy Collection was to have all six of the "NES legacy games" playable in one place? Making a collection with the last two games seems a little weird... They seem too new, to me, given that they're seventh-generation ones.
ReplyDeleteNow personally, I'd rather have some sort of "Mega Man Legacy Collection GB" (who remembers "Mega Man Mania"?), but I'd also toss in Rockman & Forte: Challenger From the Future as well, since it's both a handheld game and (somewhat) related to Mega Man (World) 2.
Now, if you want to talk about a proper "Legacy Collection 2" with the traditional games, I would definitely consider adding Rockman & Forte (the Super Famicom version, not the Game Boy Advance one) and maybe Mega Man: The Wily Wars (it's different enough to count) to this collection of cross-generation games. Power Battle/Fighters can wait for another time... like, say, if they made an "oddball" collection with the non-traditional games in it. Namely these:
- Right and Wily's RockBoard: That's Paradise!
- Mega Man's Soccer
- Mega Man: The Power Battle
- Mega Man 2: The Power Fighters
- Super Adventure Rockman
- Rockman Battle & Chase
I think that would be pretty neat, myself -- especially if the multiplayer ones had NetPlay (using a licensed version of FightCade!, maybe).
In any case, I'll believe this rumor when I see it. It's probably true, yeah, but ya know... a little confirmation from a first or second-party source wouldn't hurt.
Fun food for thought: MM9 and 10 are recent enough to already be available on XB1 and PS4.
DeleteGiven that 9 and 10 are numbered entries in the series, they are by default part of the Mega Man "legacy" despite their relatively young age. If one were inclined to split hairs, they could probably argue that 9 and 10 match the "legacy" aesthetic more than 7, 8, and MM&B do anyway.
DeleteHowever, I completely agree with everything else in your post. For sure, they should include Mega Man & Bass SFC and Wily Tower from The Wily Wars in Legacy Collection 2. (I'm not sure it would make sense to include the full Wily Wars game given that the other content is just ports of Mega Man 1-3.) The Game Boy collection should be its own thing, and the rest of the games that you mentioned are better suited for a spinoff collection.
This Keeping Mega Man games away from Nintendo Consoles is Bullshit! It only hurts Capcom way more than it helps. Hopely, this will change and Nintendo will get something Way better in the future. Mega Man Ultimate Collection for tbe Switch or even ports of Powered Up and Maverick Hunter X.
ReplyDeleteMegaMan Soccer is also missing!
ReplyDeleteHey guys-
ReplyDeleteIll shed some light on some things here, mainly why its only 4 games.
Back when MML3 was cancelled, Capcom USA was nice enough to bring me into the talks about how to relaunch the brand. The first thing we all agreed on was a collection--go back to the roots and rebuild from there.
But we had a problem. Remastering MM1 thru 10 would be a costly process, and we were not sure it would be successful due to how much money would be needed. MM 7-10 were all cited as being the most expensive games due to the unique challenges they presented. Just the audio alone would be a nightmare. You would need an SNES audio engineer, a Saturn/PSX engineer, AND a 360/PS3 audio engineer VS a single NES audio engineer that would be needed on MM 1-6. And Im just scratching the surface. Each of those 4 games has very unique challenges.
So what did I suggest? I suggested splitting the collection in two. Release MM1 thru 6 first, then follow up with 7 thru 10. Everyone was onboard with the idea. Also, we crunched some rough numbers, and a 7 thru 10 collection needed almost twice the budget of 1 thru 6. Crazy huh?
So then all the people I knew at Capcom US quit or got laid off, and the talks ceased and I remember thinking "well I guess thats the end of that". So you can imagine how pleasantly surprised I was when MMLC was announced YEARS later.
Bottom line is, yes, this may only be 4 games, and you might feel cheated, but dont let the numbers fool you. I can guarantee you more resources and more time will have to go into these 4 games than the previous 6. Maybe twice as much.
I am very eager to play all 4 again, and cant wait to see the challenges DE comes up with for 7 and 8 (assuming they are producing this set and I hope they are). I am looking forward to it, and I hope you all are too!
Jaxel
Good I'm glad that Capcom us is no more its stuff like this that's killing mega man, a bunch of idiots at Capcom. To many people in marketing who don't play the games or care about them telling executives at Capcom what they want to hear and the result is full priced loads of crap. Nintendo wouldn't let mega man die, if Capcom is so afraid to try to make a good mega man game then they should just sell the i.p. and move on.
DeleteI hope in these talks you all recognized that MM&Bass should be included as a numbered title...Much like Resident Evil Code Veronica. It would be a shame to be missing that title.
DeleteAlso that directed at you Jaxel. It was directed toward Capcom. And yes I would like them to give the games their best and play them as well
DeleteOops supposed to be was not directed toward you. My bad.
DeleteMake a Switch collector's edition and package it with a Proto Man Amiibo. Fan service.
ReplyDeleteI know it's a pipe dream based on limited budget but we really need a redub of Mega Man 8
ReplyDeleteWhy? Why replace that voice acting masterpiece? Doctah Wahwee would disapprove.
DeleteOh great, I hope Digital Eclipse emulates, oops, I mean "ports," the disc load times in MM8 for authenticity. It's necessary for preservation. And I hope it's the PS1 version too so it lacks the bonus content which is apparently meant to be forgotten like The Wily Wars' changed/new content. Plus "porting" the Saturn version might just be too big a task for Digital Eclipse.
ReplyDeleteAnd maybe this actually will have MM&B, but hopefully the GBA version with butchered sound, color, and resolution. Translating the SNES version is clearly out the question for these "ports" and would go against Digital Eclipse's preservation/authenticity marketing gimm- errr, I mean, noble cause.
Wonder if they'll manage to "port" the MM7 ending? We all know Capcom couldn't in Anniversary Collection, but they didn't have Digital Eclipse's super duper "new engine" either. Also can't wait for the totally authentic experience of having save states, rewind, and rapid fire!
Of course, MM9/10 will surely be actual ports though, because that's the cheaper thing to do. Yay, 18-20% of these 2 collections isn't false advertising.
They'd have to be morons to release this with only four games. They'd have to be completely braindead to hire Digital Eclipse to emulate 7 and 8, when they could barely emulate 6 NES games.
ReplyDeleteWhich means both of the above are probably true.
I hope for the love of all that is good they're smart enough to include Mega Man and Bass, but that might be too much hassle for DE to handle. MM&B is the Code Veronica of Mega Man games, mainline enough to not be a random spin-off. I'll probably end up skipping this collection if it's just 4 games.
Megaman and Bass better be in there. Otherwise it's only 4 games. Such a good game and a missed opportunity if its not included. The Saturn Megaman 8 was the better version so hopefully that's the version used.
ReplyDelete
