The Rockman X Novelization is Based on the Manga
I don't believe this was the twist Iwamoto was referring to, but according to the recently added product description on Rockman X: The Novels Amazon page, the book's plot is reportedly an adaptation of Iwamoto's X1 manga.
By adhering to Iwamoto's 1994 adaptation, we can expect to see manga-exclusive characters and events in novelized form. For example, the opening moments of the manga throw readers in the midst of Sigma's uprising. Here, X finds himself at a moral impasse with an Irregular called Pierrot. X is unable to bring himself to off a member of his own kind, so Zero does the deed for him. A few pages later, X, to Zero's surprise, elicits an emotional response to a dog killed in combat: he's actually crying. These early moments lay the foundation for X's character arc; the struggle of being a robot with human feelings.
There are currently no plans for an English language version of Rockman X: The Novels. I don't doubt, however, the possibility of someone taking up a fan-translation down the line. In the meantime you should check out Dr. Neko and Ayami Zero's X manga scanlation project if you haven't already. An oldie but a goodie!
This is good news. Hopefully they don't cancel it. I'm actually serious. Please don't cancel this.
ReplyDeleteWow, I remember that old scanlation site. It wasn't perfect (a tiny bit of the spelling and grammar was off), but it was the only way for us to enjoy the X1 manga without the language barrier. It's certainly a much better job than the person who tried to "translate" the X2 and X3 manga (and did an incredibly horrible job of it, as well as adding their own stupid little mini-comics at the end about how bad they were at doing it while using official Mega Man X art to show X and Zero getting mad at them).
ReplyDeleteAnd what about this guy who is traslating the Ikehara mangas? http://mangasrockmantraducidos.blogspot.pe/
DeleteI knew there was a chance of the novel being based on the manga. first with the manga's artist set to draw it, then the cover showing X with a tear.
ReplyDeletei'd give it a try if there's a scanlation.
wonder if they plan to make novel for X2 and 3 (since there have been manga for theses two game as well), i guess it'll depend of the sales.
There was also a manga for X4 (though no one attempted to translate that one at all) as well as a Chinese manhua for X5 (though that one was completely zany at times and did its own thing, like X punching out a human thug for his stupidity).
DeleteRush X ?? He said that above. Kidding. I bet in manga he don't have a Rush X like original Megaman games. Too bad Rockman X series doesn't have a cyborg dog of his own too. :(
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure about how to order it from Amazon JP but I'd be happy to scan it...
ReplyDeletePlease let Marty be in ^W^

ReplyDeleteGah, Dr. Neko's Lab--a shame they never finished translating X1 at the very least.
ReplyDeleteStill a little bitter that UDON never brought this one over.
