The 2008 mobile port of Rockman 1 is a noteworthy addition in a long line of ports for its unique feature to play the entire game as Roll. For one reason or another, this feature was dummied-out of the recent iOS/Android port. It remains to be seen if she'll be added in a future update. Until then, here's our best look yet at a Roll run from the 2008 version.
Note: this is the 2011 re-release of the 2008 version. It's exactly the same.
A Roll run is buster only - you cannot use any Special Weapons. It represents a bit of a challenge! Hopefully fans overseas will have the opportunity to play it soon.
I don't mean to sound condescending or anything but we are really getting desperate for news or general things to talk about. I mean I don't blame the webmaster I obviously blame that lack of good content being produced.
ReplyDeleteThat said I never played this before cool of you to post these so that I can see how it looked.
I've been running this place for nearly ten years and, even when there was news, I've always posted these sort of tidbits. It's not necessarily news (though it may be 'news' to someone), but these posts help spotlight some cool or little known things.
ReplyDeleteI am the anon that commented first, when I said what I said I wasn't referring to any post in particular, I was just saying generally this was the case.
DeleteMaybe before we had stuff like Mega Man food and drink, underground Mega Man inspired PC game release notifications etc, but now that's all we have, save for some cameos and rereleases and I guess the largely uninformative cartoon.
Anyway I didn't mean to derail the topic of the post.
Digital Foundry posted a nice video review/rundown of what's wrong with the latest ports:

15fps yowza
For its 30th year anniversary, it's a shame there isn't big news everywhere, it's just how it is. I like the variety of news though like fan projects and videos like this.
ReplyDeleteWhile this is cool to see, I can't help but find it hilarious that they bothered recording this at 60 FPS when the game's frame-rate is so pitifully bad! X_X
ReplyDeleteThat said, Roll is certainly over-powered here compared to Mega Man (which is funny in itself), but it is neat that this mode was included in the game. Sadly, even if they added that into the recent release, it wouldn't begin to salvage it...
Ha ha hah, there is so much that is just plain wrong with this remake... but it's nice to see some pixel-perfect footage of Roll Mode in action! Leave it to the awesome folks at Nico Nico Douga to give us the goods!
ReplyDeleteAlso, here's a fun fact for the curious: Roll may have been originally intended to use weapons just like Rock. There exists unused sprites of her carrying and throwing things, a'la Super Arm.
I think it's fair to say that the real question is if she meets herself at the end of the game or not.
ReplyDeleteActually she and megaman run toghether to dr. Ligt's home
