Yesterday I posted some footage from the 2017 Mega Man animated series. Today I had to take it down. I'd like to go into a little more detail on that.
What
you saw was not final footage. A member of Dentsu Entertainment informed me the clip was from internal animation tests by the folks at Film Roman LLC. That footage was not intended for public viewing,
so it had to be removed. I've also been informed Mega
Man's look is still very much evolving. The Mega Man depicted in the
clip is not representative of the final product.
Dentsu
Entertainment would like to express their thanks for your continued
patience, passion and support. They hope to have some big news to
announce soon.
As always, stay tuned!
If the design can be better, sure :p
ReplyDeleteI don't care a lot about the story, i just hope it won't be too childish like those 3D cartoons in the morning (for the story) or too much ben10-style.....
If the story is simple but the design/fight good, it could be interesting.
But nowadays, if a cartoon is a bit violent, it will be censured a lot (at least, in France...)
More like they had such bad fan support they took it down. Not surprised with how bad the feedback was that they just took it down to avoid the same fate as ghostbuster 2016
ReplyDeleteI can't see this turning out well at all just from this thing
Actually a lot of people were neutral about the old video
Delete"Very much still evolving"... that's not a good sign. The first season should be in late post-production by now, not early concept work. Instead of a reassuring update, this info made me even more skeptical.
ReplyDeleteDamage control. Pure damage control.
ReplyDeleteThere's hope. Dentsu is very well aware of the design complaints
DeleteYeah? And how do you know? There's so much the creators of this cartoon need to hear, but oh no, instead they just went straight on assuming they were above the fan's demands, criticisms and expectations. This is off with a very, very bad start. After putting us through so much, Capcom should've been careful and valued the fans and their opinions.
DeleteDentsu is pretty good at keeping up with what fans hate and dont hate
Deletenope, if it was about damage control, they would not risk saying something like this now (for the reason pointed by alia hutchins), it would just make them look silly.
Deletethey're more likely realised they needed some changes, and have thus decided to have mega's design "very much evolving" a litle while ago.
they did not say that the design we have seen was the current design and will change in the future. i think this footage had been made a little while ago.
Protodude, how can i contact you?

DeleteThank you bro ;-) ... i sent you a mail.
DeleteHow dare they turn such an adult thing like a children's show about a video game character into something so childish. This is unprecedented!
ReplyDeleteAll because it's a children's show, doesn't mean it's ok for it to be poor quality. It's that line of thinking that makes it so that MOST children's shows are condescending poor quality garbage.
Deletealso you, and them- have to remember that regardless of who it's intended audience is, this is a character from the 80's. This has a fanbase which is now adult, and cherishes it dearly. This isnt just some no-name property from years ago that its ok to change because nobody cared about it. This is something that should be handled with care. The PROPER way to go about introducing mega man to a younger generation is to just introduce them to Mega Man. Make a faithful imagining that represents what the series was about. otherwise, what, the way to update megaman for a "modern" audience and introduce him to younger kids is to just throw his past out the window and "reboot" him to match the new cartoon?
TL;DR, the proper way to do this is to make something that can appeal to both old AND new fans, and so far, the design alone and some of the concepts presented, have been pretty polarizing.
Polarising? I haven't seen many people praise it.
DeleteMaybe that should tell you something, Prof.
Delete> That footage was not intended for public viewing, so it had to be removed. I've also been informed Mega Man's look is still very much evolving.
ReplyDeleteUsually I'm not like the typical cynical Mega Man fan, but yeah fucking right. This is just damage control because of the negative reception.
I assure you it has very little to do with the reception. You'll have to trust me on that.
DeleteWell, as someone who wishes they'd come to their senses regarding the show's art style, I have to say I find it disheartening that they don't seem to care about fans' negative reception to the changes.
DeleteAs April O' Neil put it in a very odd video game, Protes, "You have my support."
DeleteMakes sense... although I was quite alright with how it looked. Here's hoping that whatever they are hiding is an improvement? I don't know anymore.
ReplyDeletePlease get rid of the Tron style glow in the dark lines
ReplyDeleteWell, figured it could be old footage they didn't want us to see because it was unlisted video.
ReplyDeleteIn any case, I did like what I saw already. It looks like some casual fan show, which appeals to me. If the final product is even better than that will be great.
I...so all those other cartoon shown were prototype tests, too?? Why need to take it down, out of all things?
ReplyDeleteThey should know once something comes out, there's no way to stop it from spreading. Should've just said their reasoning and left it there. Removing it was the wrong move; it's gonna make worried people more skeptical of the true reasons.
I'm fairly confident the Simpsons footage was not test footage (I'm pretty sure it was from the Simpsons movie).
DeleteI'm not convinced that the footage shown wasn't final footage.
Until shown otherwise, I will base my opinions on what I saw.
ReplyDeleteI find it weird that they included footage not ready for public viewing in a demo reel. I mean, if the point of a demo reel to tease an upcoming cartoon, why put anything other than release-ready footage in it? It seems to me that showing unfinished footage and then changing it before the final release would cause more confusion than just displaying the logo with a voiceover of "coming soon" or something.
ReplyDeleteIt was an animator's demo reel. In other words, the video was showcasing that specific animator's different works in various shows so that they can show it around to find more work. In this case, couple of clips in that video just happened to be Mega Man. However, due to the take down I imagine that the animator was not contractually allowed (NDA or some such was still in effect) to share some if not all the work showcased in the video.
Delete"It was an animator's demo reel. In other words, the video was showcasing that specific animator's different works in various shows so that they can show it around to find more work. "
DeleteProbably this. Just from the fact that video was unlisted we can tell it was probably something meant for the animator's use only.
It was clearly never meant for the general public and might not even be an accurate representation of the new Megaman cartoon.
Ok now I'm worried again... After seeing that short clip of him he actually looked ok. Not great but still ok.... Now they wanted it taken down and their explanation was that the design isn't final and that it's still evolving? That doesn't add up when the series is suppose to premiere in 2017... How the heck will they get the animation done in time? Unless they rush it.... Sorry but this whole thing doesn't look good now....
ReplyDeleteI dont think i can handle more bad news :[
ReplyDeleteBOOO, CENSORSHIP :(
