Mega Man 1-6 for Mobile Confirmed for North America
Japan won't be the only region receiving Mega Man 1-6 on iOS and Android. Capcom Mobile confirmed all six games will be headed stateside in January 2017. You can pre-register and sign up to be notified when the games launch here.
As previously announced over the weekend, these ports contain additional features to ease-in new players to the Mega Man formula. You'll be able to toggle between auto firing, auto charge and even adjust the speed of the games to your liking.
Once more, I'd like to remind everyone this has nothing to do with the new mobile Mega Man game we've been hearing about. That title is expected to release sometime after April.

Has it been confirmed that this will work like the Sonic 1 and 2 remakes where existing mobile Mega Man 2 users will get their apps updated to the remake?
ReplyDeleteIf not, this is some BS. I mean, I like the current iOS port, but I should be able to upgrade for free.
That's a really good question. I'll ask.
DeleteThat complaint echoes sentiments I keep hearing about Nintendo's Virtual Console re-re-re-releases... Unfortunately, in the world of business, "Own it once, own it forever" generally doesn't apply. Or if it does, there's always some sort of catch. (Transfer/upgrade fees, etc.)
Deletehope it'll come to Europe as well.
ReplyDeletei can get the american release just fine if it's not the case, though.
As i thought, they're aiming this game at potential new players not yey familiar with megaman.
ReplyDeletewon't stop thoses of us who don't own a previous rerelease of the game to give it a shot. i think i'll try it.
Didn't think of it that way. I can get behind having those unfamiliar with the games getting into them through this method.
DeleteGo Jump 'n Shoot Man ! Now figthing for ever lasting peace on Smartphone!
ReplyDeletehope i'll get some new players to take interest in Mega Man.
It's nice and all, but why not make a habit of packaging MMs 7-10. I get that it'd involve making a new emulator for each game and all, but geez. Or how about those other games made for the Gameboy? Again, effort needed to make a different emulator, but geez. The series didn't end at 6.
ReplyDeleteWhat the hell Capcom, how many times you want me to play those games? I've already played for like million times already. Come up with a better idea next time please.
ReplyDeleteMega Man 9 and 10 mobile? PC? No? Too much?
ReplyDeleteMega Man 9 and 10 really need to come out on PC. Since they are 8-bit styled games, they could even potentially reuse the Legacy Collection engine. I would much rather see that happen instead of being presented with yet another 1-6 re-release that I most definitely won't buy.
DeleteI was going to ask this in the initial announcement but just didn't. Now that they're coming to NA too: Do we know if these are ports? Because I'm fairly certain that is the case, looking at the screenshot in the initial announcement:
ReplyDelete1. Quick weapon switch button? Above shoot on the right. Maybe it's just for the menu, but that would be kind of odd.
2. The new health bars, of course.
3. The lack of a score.
4. The resolution is 240x240. The NES outputs 256x240. So the left and right are clipped for some reason, but the top and bottom aren't. Of course, if emulated, then it would display glitchy overscan graphics when vertically scrolling.
1-3 could potentially all be done with some ROM hacking and/or emulator trickery, so they're not very strong indications, but the resolution is the most interesting part.
The 2007 Rockman 1 mobile port (with playable Roll) also has a resolution of 240x240 and a similar health bar setup to this new version. (Yet I doubt this version will have the option to play as Roll.)
But best of all, the Megaman 2 iOS port runs at a perfect 256x256, more than ANY other version I'm aware of. So why then is the MM1 screenshot which represents these versions, not 256x256? And most importantly, why can't we get a competent set of ports on PC and consoles yet they repeatedly port these games to phones?
Why don't we have 256x256, no slowdown, no sprite flicker, no overscan glitching, more playable character skins, Wily Wars graphics, Wily Tower, sliding+charging for all games as unlockable options, remixed OSTs in-game, etc etc etc? If they find it profitable to do ports of any capacity for phones, why not go all out and finally put out something definitive and fresh on PC and consoles? I mean, the ultimate goal in my opinion would be mod tools so we the fans can carry on where Capcom refuses to, but hey, I'll settle for definitive versions of the classics.
But oh, yeah, of course, silly me, that won't happen because then they can't keep re-releasing the same crappy emulated and/or intentionally, arbitrarily gimped versions again. I mean, oh no, they MIGHT have to innovate, be creative, or even, gasp, make something new.
Nope, instead we get Legacy Collection; a pathetic, barebones emulator and frontend falsely advertised as a "port/"new engine"" handled by "we know what's best for you, Cutman's stage is baby blue" developers, because "muh accuracy, muh preservation, muh Criterion, MUH LEGACY (MUH COST CUTTING MARKETING GIMMICK)." Shocking news flash, but unofficial emulation has provided that for years, and far, far more. And whatever emulation Digital Eclipse cooked up has no room to boast about accuracy in comparison to Mesen or puNES, not to mention it has 10% of the features either of those have. Capcom is to blame too, of course. They have the final say and write the paychecks. But still.
Whatever. I've spent too long dumping my thoughts/ranting on this. Their decisions are just so supremely stupid. Spending dollars to make pennies. The only thing I will say positive about these re-releases is the potential introduction they can be for newcomers. Keyword: potential.
Adjust the speed of the games? we're getting to that point where it's questionable whether anyone's even getting the MM experience anymore, with input lag, save states, rapid fire and now adjustable game speed?
