First Footage of Mega Man 1-6 Mobile


Our first look at the Mega Man 1-6 mobile ports for iOS and Android is here. Unfortunately things are looking a bit choppy. More often than not, framerate chugs along where it shouldn't. I mean, really; even the original 2010 Mega Man 2 iPhone port runs smoother. With a little less than a month before launch, here's hoping the team can iron this out.

Performance aside, the footage shows off a couple new additions too: revised title screens with new logos and a charge shot meter for Mega Man 4-6. Passwords for Mega Man 2-6 have been removed as well. There's no telling how saving games will work, though. It won't be long before we find out - all six games launch in January.

  1. I was hoping this would be like the Apollo Justice mobile trailer, where it was the video that was choppy not the game but, man, that's really bad. Hopefully they actually fix it before release.

  2. Holy crap, maybe I don't want to upgrade my iOS Mega Man 2 copy. That looks horrible - like, flip-phone gaming horrible. Mega Man 3 Mobile looks about on-par with this.

  4. See now, this is the sort of thing that irks me. I always see people saying things about how this sort of thing "isn't for long time fans" and it's good because it's supposed to "introduce new people to the franchise."

    The idea is fine, but if the games control poorly, or as the video shows maybe even run poorly, it could have the opposite effect. Same with all of the other poorly reviewed poorly received mobile Mega Man games. They are going to end up burning potential new fans and scare them away from the franchise if they make poor quality things that are intended to get new people to try the series.

    Hope it turns out well, but Capcom's management of this franchise seems so consistently irresponsible.

  5. Yeah, I mean hopefully this is just an early build, but personally, I would not have released a trailer if that was something I intended to iron out. As a consumer, that would totally turn me off from the game if I was considering buying it.

  6. Wow. I mean, wow. It's bad when you know what music was going to play before you even watch. Of course that tune. lol

    As for the way it looks? Pretty pathetic. Look, I am sure there is a team of people, large or small, behind these ports doing the best they can, and I commend their efforts. Hey, it's more than I can do. Thing is, it's not up to snuff. They shouldn't play that poorly in any capacity or medium in 2016. Not that we needed more ports of those games as is, but whatever. I suppose they were thinking easy money or something.

    I've always said if they want to port something, how about porting over a collection of all the mobile Mega Man/Rockman games most of the world never experienced. Guess it'll never happen at this rate.

  8. Oh my god! Oh my god! I don't think these are ports! I don't think these are ports at all!

    If this trailer footage is an accurate portrayal of the final product, these games aren't ports of the original Famicom/NES games, but instead look to be built from the ground up with inaccurate physics, glitchy and missing sprite animations, floaty physics, and a whole mess of problems that absolutely horrify me!

    I'm all for expanding the brand to new players and whatnot, but this is just inexcusable! Especially when you stop and consider that a full-blown emulator can do it better, faster, and more accurately!

    1. By the way. Just looked at the old Mega Man 2 iOS thing that was linked by P-Dude. ... it looks awful! I mean, it's leagues beyond this 2017 compilation, if again, the video is accurate... but still. So many things just weren't right...

  9. so that's how they made it mobile friendly, by running it at like 8 fps. I don't think that's performance, it's probably an option that can be changed (hopefully), if it isn't changeable then its clear they've mutilated these games.

  10. What they should do is make something specifically for mobile. But something good, like Super Mario Run good. Not like the Rockman Xover game.

    For the record, I enjoyed Rockman Xover, but I can see why others wouldn't have. It lacked any real game play, and just didn't do the series justice.

    Why not make a new Mega Man for mobile? Something that can be played without buttons. Maybe you just touch the enemies to shoot at them? Or go the battle network route, only instead of it being just MegaMan.EXE, have all of the main Mega MAN characters available as avatars. Only it uses the battle network grid and chip systems for the game play.

  12. Why would they run the ad like this? It gives me the idea that it runs at a low frame rate. Didn't MMMX on IOS run like this also? I could just emulate this on Android and it would run 100x better

    1. Nope. MMX iOS runs quite smoother. There's a few removed animation frames, but it runs at a very playable framerate.

  13. Is there really a bar for his charged shot? It can process him blinking? So ridiculous how a device past 2010, can't properly run something from the late 80's to early 90's.

      If the game runs poorly that's on the people making the game. Not the technology.

  15. I suppose my last message got stuck in a spam filter or something due to it containing multiple links. I could repost it but whatever I guess, the point is that after studying these previews, these new versions match up with the 2005-2007 Japan only cell phone ports in many ways. To the point I'm certain they're based on those and that's likely the answer to all the problems already visible in the preview video.

    Capcom, making terrible decisions as always.
