Before hitting it big with Eyesheild 21 and One-Punch Man, manga artist Yusuke Murata was but a child when he won the Mega Man 4 and Mega Man 5 boss design contests. His winning sketches became Dust Man and Crystal Man, respectively. He was 12-years-old at the time.
Years later, Murata has found international acclaim. And yet he will be a fan of Mega Man no matter where his career takes him.
Taking to Twitter, Murata shared a couple fun Mega Man sketches: the Blue Bomber himself and his future alter-ego Quint.

And here's a piece he did in 2015:

Needless to say, cool stuff. I think it's great when artists not only remember but honor where they came from!
Murata's so great. Arguably one of the best current manga artists.
ReplyDeleteThat's so awesome.
ReplyDeleteHe even got two designs in the games and everything. Amazing.
OH MY GOSH I DIDN'T KNOW THIS! I LOVE HIS WORK! THIS IS SO AWESOME!
ReplyDeleteSo cool to see that big names still draw fanart :) AND MEGAMAN FANART AT THAT!
I LOVE IT!
I am now a bigger fan of his than I was before!
Murata Mega Man Manga>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Ariga (Agira? whatever) Manga (I don't want an argument, just my opinion and wishful thinking).
ReplyDeletewow didn't knew that! He need to do a manga in collaboration with capcom and Ariga!
ReplyDeleteOne word: Drooling!
ReplyDeleteThe last picture looks like Mega Man drawed by Katsuhiro Otomo.
ReplyDeleteMurata is great, but Otomo is a level of godlike I can't even get into.
Deleteyusuke murata is really amazing eyeshield 21 one of the best manga i have read but i think that akira toriyama its better
ReplyDeleteI'd be super-interested in seeing his original Dustman and Crystalman sketches, but I doubt he kept copies then, much less would still have them now. Heh heh.
ReplyDeleteThat aside, Rock certainly is lookin' mega manly there, ain't he? Quint looks pretty bad-ass, too.
Badassry is never a detractor.
DeleteGoing further back (and something that isn't as well known), Murata also got his name in the credits for Mega Man 3 (though it was only under the special thanks section; I wonder what idea he sent in for that title). Incidentally, he did a huge piece of art of literally every major bot (and some minor stage ones) in the Classic series for the 2012 Capcom Heroes calendar: http://i.imgur.com/PUqNxjO.jpg
ReplyDeleteJust imagine an entire anime series about Crystal Man being a badass Robot Master. Or heck, it's a shame they didn't sneak in some kind of tongue-in-cheek reference to Mega Man somewhere in One-Punch Man. Excellent work by him as always.
He also drew officially for X-Over making him an official Rockman artist. http://www.therockmanexezone.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10002/103928129.png
Deletewow thanks for this one!
Deletefunny and awesome: just 2 days ago i was wondering "what Murata's style would be like in a megaman character"? and i see this
