We all know Mega Man 2 will be featured on the NES Classic Mini later this fall. However, for anyone interesting in playing its Japanese counterpart - in addition to 29 other Japanese Famicom classics - you'll be pleased to know Nintendo just announced the Nintento Classic Mini: Famicom.
Just like the NES Classic Mini, the mini Famicom comes pre-installed with 30 games and an HDMI cable to plug into modern high-definition TVs. Games can be played in their original 4:3 aspect ration or with a CRT-like filter. Games exclusive to the mini Famicom include: Yie Ar Kung-Fu, Atlantis no Nazo, Solomon's Key, Tsuppari Sumo, River City Ransom, Final Fantasy 3, Mario Club Golf, Downtown Street Challenge. You can check out the full list of games here.
The Nintendo Classic Mini: Famicom will be available in Japan starting November 10th for 5,980 Yen.

I like it the best than American version. If it come with Rockman 1-6 in it only and nothing else then I would buy it!
ReplyDeleteCool that they're getting the Mini classic too. Never personally liked how the Famicom & even the Super Famicom looked. Will always prefer the US designs. Still, may get this one along with the US one just to have it. I mean I got a US R.O.B. & Jap Robot, could look nice together in the grand scheme of things
ReplyDeleteSuper NES US design is the worst looking.. UGLY! Super Famciom and Super Nintendo (EUROPE VERSION LIKE JAPAN) console itself was awesome and is always awesome today.
DeleteThe Purple & Grey Combo looks nice. It's one of the main consoles I still have out on display hooked up & ready to go. Never liked the 4 color buttons & logo on the Jap one. I hate that the "new" 3DS use this in the US. The unit itself looks childproof to me with its round edges & eyesore of an eject button.
DeleteI like the Super/Famicom look more (although don't hate the S/NES) white and burgundy complement each other fine and what you call "childproof" I call sleeker than what I find the U.S designs to be. I also like a little color on my face buttons the SNES version in comparison looks so drab, although I don't mind drab I kinda do for Nintendo a such lively brand.
DeleteThey should come up with "NES Classic Mini: Mega Man Edition" theme console and put all the Japan, USA and Europe releases plus the Wily & Right's RockBoard: That's Paradise game.
ReplyDeleteNow you are speaking my Language!!
DeleteMan, that's just brilliant. I'd get that!
DeleteWhat's the point of this if it can't run cartridges? Might as well play emulators like VC and what not, I mean it's cheaper than VC etc but if you already own the games just play them on free emus anyway.
ReplyDeletePRECISELY! I totally agree with you.
DeleteIt's a budget product for the holiday season.
DeleteAlso, it's 30 classic games for the value of 1 AAA game.
Not a bad value, I'd say. You could do much worse than that.
Awright! Now we're talkin'! This is the good stuff right here! Man, I wish we were getting this collection...
ReplyDeleteI know I'm in the minority on this, as always, but I really don't like the fact that Mega Man 2 is the only game from the series they decided to add. I see this as little more than yet another case of that overrated game getting special treatment, while all the others are being treated as insignificant.
ReplyDeleteMaybe the minority, but not alone. Two is my second favorite of the MM games, but it seems to get a lot more attention than all the others combined.
DeleteI'd personally like 3 to get a little more love in stuff like this, but I'm willing to settle for 4, despite the fact it's almost as over-hyped as 2. Or at least... it's really popular with the ROM hacking crowd.
DeleteI'm sure it would be more expensive--though still less than a current gen console, I'd think, but I would've liked to see this idea, but made into more of a "Wii Virstual Console" for NES games, that had a decent sized HD and wireless for downloading whatever titles you'd like. One with all the Megaman games, all 3 Marios, Battletoads, Turtles 2, Duck Tales, Tetris...and an ever expanding NES library...that I could really get behind.
