Mega Man 9 and Mega Man 10 are easily the strongest pair of entries to come from the Mega Man franchise in a long time. That's why it baffles (and even pains) some fans that these games are not readily available to play on PC/Steam or current-generation home consoles. The demand is there, but are these hypothetical ports even on Capcom's radar? A representative from the Inti Creates - makers of Mega Man 9 and Mega Man 10 - brings us the lowdown.
This is the answer I recently received in regards to the possibility of getting Mega Man 9/10 on current platforms:
"In order to do something like that [port Mega Man 9/10], the folks at Capcom would have to be the ones to make it happen.
While it true we developed the games, we do not own the rights to those games, and thus could never do such a thing unless Capcom wanted it to happen. On a personal level, I think that would be great, but unfortunately it's not up to me, hehe."
As the case with any Capcom-published title, availability falls entirely within Capcom's jurisdiction. Ultimately, Capcom themselves have the final say if these games will make the jump from the seventh console generation to the eighth and onward. So for something like this to happen - actual ports - you'll have to raise your voice and hope Capcom hears. Take heart the developers behind these amazing games are entirely on our side.
Speak up on Twitter, Facebook, Capcom Unity, and the comments below. A little excitement could go a long way.
I already have these games on Wii but I would LOVE to have next gen ports on 3DS or something. I know for a fact there's a demand to have these games on Steam at the very least.
ReplyDeleteNo. Its better if they are making a Megaman 11 and Megaman 12. It would make my life happily!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see these get ported to the PC. Heck, port Megaman 7 and 8 and even Rockman and Forte too. It's too bad the Megaman Legacy Collection only had Megaman 1-6 in it.
ReplyDeleteIt would be nice to get a port of these games on other platforms (especially PC) but that's all Capcom seems to be doing these days...
ReplyDeleteStrongest pair of entries to come from the Mega Man franchise In a long time? Maybe 9, but I wouldn't say 10, don't get me wrong they're both great games, but there are a lot of really great Mega Man titles that just didn't get the attention or respect they deserved.
ReplyDeleteIf you ask me the finest games that came out of the franchise before the hiatus basically in the 2006-2010 range. Were Mega Man 9, Mega Man Star Force 3, Powered-Up and the original ZX. the rest of the titles during that era were great too, It's just those 4 games that are the real MVPs.
I respect your opinion though, sorry if I came off like I didn't.
I skipped that whole console generation so never got to play these, c'mon capcom :\
ReplyDeleteHow does someone or a gamer miss a whole generation?
DeleteI want to see these games stay relevant, but on the topic of things to bang Capcom's door down over, I'd rather a new game, like Legends 3.
ReplyDeleteI respectfully disagree with ShaolinTurtle. MM10 was far superior to MM9, and Powered Up was a pile of unbalanced mediocrity. Nice to see ZX get props, though (even if its presentation was off, the core concept is among my favorites).
I like MM10 way more than 9 too, but in the end they were both eh to me. Powered Up was alright, MHX was alright as well, SF3 was not that great it was OK, people either crap on it (like the series it's a part of) or act like it was a godsend but it had its problems and its virtues.
DeleteZX and more specifically ZXA are some of the only I would credit as really strong entries, and I absolutely agree the presentation could use work. It's just too bad only now people are realizing the quality of those games.
I never had a Wii/360/PS3 so I never really got the chance to play these. I would've liked to have seen a DS version back in the day, but that never happened.
ReplyDeleteNowadays I'd definitely prefer to see them on Steam. Toss in all the DLC and it's a done deal.
9 and 10 were Not the strongest entries. 9 was Overrated with God-aweful level layout, frustrating mid-bosses,and a retarded story. Plus no slide. and 10 had no fun Special Weapons.
ReplyDeleteJust face facts,Capcom can't create good platformers anymore,Period.
WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELL, while we're all throwing out opinions here, I consider 9 to be one of the best entries in the whole franchise (and my favorite Mega Man game). 10, while not as good, is still a solid entry in my book as well.
DeleteCapcom (and inter-creates) Suck hard at Platformers nowadays, but that doesn't mean The Blue Bomber and his Kid Brother can't get other gameplay styles. A Open World Mega Man title would rock. No platforming, tons of exploration, and fighting in a 3d world (done right).
ReplyDelete"A Open World Mega Man title would rock. No platforming, tons of exploration, and fighting in a 3d world (done right)."
DeleteIf that ever happened, Mega Man would have completely lost his identity, and the effort would be better spent on developing new IP or making a new Monster Hunter game. (Because in all likelihood Monster Hunter is where Capcom would probably draw their inspiration.) Also, that sounds like what Inafune's ReCore game is shaping up to be anyway.
IMO, the closest that Mega Man could reasonably drift towards an open world scenario would be a Metroidvania game. Mega Man ZX has shown that Metroidvania is very compatible with the core Mega Man mechanics, and I would be interested in seeing what could be done with a SOTN-scale Mega Man Metroidvania. I guess we'll all get a sample of such a game if/when Mega Man X: Corrupted is released.
I doubt it. It would make things better. It works for Legends/DASH,it can work for Classic and X. Besides,Capcom sucks at making platformers and instant death spikes are pathetic And Capcom needs to outgrow them. They don't provide challenge, they provide annoyance. That's why MM9's stages were a pain to play through...Way too many spikes.
DeleteSay No to Capcom Mega Man platformers.
Anyway,if that doesn't suit ppl,how about a revival of the 'Power' Series. That would rock and could be for all MM Series. The 1-on-1 battles are like Street Fighter, but with a traditional Mega Man twist. I have other ideas,if anyone is interested.

DeleteI would actually say that this shows that Capcom is great at making platformers that actually challenge players. I've sleepwalked through waaaay too many boring platformers made within the last decade or so that have been punishingly easy. So Mega Man 9 and 10 were a breath of fresh air for me.

As long as Capcom is trying to herd people into the competitive Street Fighter scene, I can't see this happening. And if they did, I could see it being a DLC nightmare like MVC3 and SF4. Also, while the Power Battle/Fighters was a nice diversion, I wouldn't like to see another Power game instead of, say, ZX3, Mega Man X9, or Mega Man 11.
please stop, i cant stop laughing at this stupidity i need time to breath

DeleteIt ain't stupid to rightfully criticise a game that too many people claim to be so perfect. I'm just sick of that. And I'm not fully anti-MM9 or Anti-Platformer. 9 had great music, good weapons, and awesome Robot Masters. Graphics were good too. And I ame ones who prefers rapid fire over charging up.
DeleteI love the old MM games and think 9 had some good stuff in it (X8 was the same for me). But,I just want fair level layout and decent story with my Mega Man titles. And calling me stupid is not making you look or sound any smarter (or cooler).
@Stefan:
DeleteDude, nobody is calling you stupid or mocking you. We are sharing opinions. You are free to criticize all you want, but please keep in mind that this is a site for fans (of Mega Man 9 in particular), opinions will be generally biased strongly in favor of Mega Man, and such criticisms may possibly be met with a negative response. As such, this may not be the best venue to mount a "Say No to Capcom Mega Man platformers" campaign and expect for it to go anywhere...
I didn't mean it to be that, though. I just don't trust Capcom anymore..especially with our favorite Blue Bomber. I know a campaign we can All get behind. the "Give X Back His Series" campaign XD. Out of all X protagonists,I love X the best. He deserves better.
Deletecmon. they should've even put 9 and 10 together with the legacy collection
ReplyDeletethen proceed with new mega man games. and please not using the aki light lore.
Would have costed too much. And that's not really capcom's fault. You can blame Nintendo's upcharging model for that.
Delete"cmon. they should've even put 9 and 10 together with the legacy collection"
DeleteI support this comment. IMO, 7, 8, and Mega Man & Bass should have been in there too so the main-series "legacy" would be complete.
"You can blame Nintendo's upcharging model for that."
I surprisingly haven't heard about this. What was this about?
Sadly, even Nintendo isn't immune to corperate extremism. All they seem to care about nowadays is making a quick buck. They also like to shut down fan made projects. I wish they were fan friendy again.
DeleteStrongest? I think you mean only.
ReplyDeleteThis doesn't seem to be particularly well-known, but it's worth pointing out that Mega Man 9 and 10 technically are currently playable on PS4 via the PlayStation Now streaming service. I'm not sure what the threshold is in terms of how good an Internet connection you need to play them without lag being an issue, but I personally tried them both a couple days ago just to test them out and I experienced no lag, though there was some negligible input delay.
ReplyDeleteWhile PS Now is a subscription-based service, you can get a 7-day trial for free and it's easy to cancel your account before your first charge. So if you're a Mega Man fan who hasn't played Mega Man 9 and 10 and you only have access to a PS4, you can play them essentially for free if your net connection is good enough and you're able to complete them both in the 7-day trial period.
Of course, you won't own them, so there's that. :P
