Rock On! Mega Man ZX Turns 10

Today marks the tenth anniversary of the Mega Man ZX series, which first released in Japan on July 6th, 2006. Mega Man ZX is regarded as a worthy extension to the Mega Man Zero. The game iterates on the template of Mega Man Zero 1, refining and expanding the concept of interconnected stages. What's more, it's also the first traditional Mega Man game to introduce a playable female protagonist.

Although considered the least successful of all Mega Man series, ZX is not without its admirers - a small but devoted group of fans pumping out art, garage kits, and musical remixes even today. Mega Man ZX 3 may be a distant pipe dream, but you can count on these guys to pick up Capcom's slack. So to you ZX fans out there, this is your day of celebration.

  1. Such an underrated series, I really wish there was a sequel to ZX Advent since it ended on a really cool cliffhanger

  3. I personally think ZX needs a sequel way more than MML2 does with a way more pronounced cliffhanger and everything.

I also prefer ZX's world, aesthetics, music and gameplay more than the ones in the MML series also.

  4. ZX was such a good time, I wish Capcom would stop pretending it doesn't exist.

Also Star Force turns 10 in December I believe, Arguably the most controversial and IMO underrated series in the franchise, but one I feel deserved more than it got back in the day, I do feel more people are slowly starting to warm up to it these days though, I don't get half as many violent reactions mentioning it as I did back in the day.

    1. Do you know why Capcom pretends it doesn't exist ? Because they are a cowardly! That's why!

  5. Ugh, I can't believe the latest series are getting up to a decade old now. How bittersweet.

  6. The reason Capcom pretends it doesn't exist, is that ZX Advent sold so bad, it was just as bad as Megaman Legends 2.

While I'm sure we could put the blame why it sold bad, this way or that way, but in the end it doesn't matter. As it is too little to late to change Capcom's mind on the subject.

I can't blame Capcom for not doing anything with ZX.
Even if it may be frustrating.

  7. Wow...already 10 years... I remember when I bought the first one, fell in love instantly. And when the sequel came I could not resist and imported the japanese one. Great memories.

  8. Oh man...a decade already. I was just thinking the same about MHX. In any case, I greatly enjoyed the ZX series as well. It was a bit different in execution, but it still felt familiar. At first one may feel its just an extension of the Zero series onto the DS, but it's robust in its own ways. Definitely underrated and entirely deserving of a third installment. In fact, it's necessary as judging from the context, it could shape up to be a direct link into the Legends series.

  9. ZX is definitely my 3rd favorite series of Mega Man games. I really love how the characters can use the powers of not only X & Zero, but also the 4 guardians from the Mega Man Zero series.

  12. I love the ZX series. A great series with awesome music.
I wish it were on a better system, as the audio on the DS is absolutely terrible.
StarForce wasn't bad either, but the constant spin-offs are getting old. It's no wonder Capcom is spinning their wheels.

  13. Excellent series, I really enjoyed these games. The music was amazing as well, I really enjoyed just about everything to do with these games. I agree with some, that I probably enjoyed playing the games more than the Zero series, but I liked the storyline in Zero more.

  14. Happy Birthday ZX! I absolutely loved both games and am really sad that Capcom has not decided to continue the series at the present time. Thanks for being one of my favorite Mega Man series (better than Zero IMO), and here's hoping for a ZX3 release before ZX's 20th.

  15. I love this game so much I bought it twice. In fact I bought my second copy just two years ago at a Target just to show support for Mega Man, because retail sales still matter.

  17. Best designs of the Mega Man series, period.

  18. While not my favorite nor do I think it's netter than the Zero series it kept things conventional enough to experiment with some functions of level design. It's a cool set of games.

  19. I love the series, but it's niche. Even moreso than the regular series. I like it better than Zero (and I love that series) but not as much as classic or X. It's still nice and should they decide to give the series another try, I'd be all up for it. =)

  20. Three reason why I think all the Zero comparisons are coming in, its either one animosity toward the character himself, a negation of my previous MML is beat out by most other MM series in every way implication, or the bubbly happy funtime aesthetic, gender equality etc of ZX that make people feel contemporary and tasteful in comparison to the Zero series and its "serious edginess".

For those uninitiated ZX is the Zero series, there is so little different between the two in core game design that they may as well be Zero 5 and 6. So little aesthetic difference that the hero's sprites are literally just edits of the Zero sprite which is also featured in the games.
