Yesterday was the fifth anniversary of Mega Man Legends 3's untimely demise. July 19th, 2011 is a date fresh in the minds of many - a date which just so happens to mark the founding of Get Me Off the Moon, too. Five years on, these tenacious fans are still rallying for Legends 3.
To celebrate Get Me Off the Moon's fifth anniversary, the group has put together a few new events to grab Capcom's attention. The first is a raffle contents. Dubbed "Operation Network of Legends", you need to show Capcom (on Facebook and/or Twitter) and Get Me Off The Moon that you've purchased at least one or all three PlayStation Network releases of MML1, MML2 and Tron Bonne in order to be entered into the drawing.
The second event is called "Operation Legendary Resolve," which has fans putting together a book about why Mega Man Legends 3 needs to resume development. There's a couple options to get involved/enter the raffle:
Option 1: Send us a message/e-mail (digital) that tells us why you feel Mega Man Legends deserves a sequel for 1 raffle ticket. Get to writing!
-OR- Option 2: Send us a letter in the mail that tells us why you feel Mega Man Legends deserves a sequel. Since this takes a little extra effort and lends a more heartfelt feeling to the journal, this will net you 2 raffle tickets!
Option 3: In addition to either of the options above, you can also send us some pictures accompanying your feelings for an extra raffle ticket! You can send this part digitally or through the mail, your choice, but let us know that you're working on it so we know to expect it! You can send us original artwork, photographs of your Legends merchandise, even Legends cosplay photos! Any way you want to show how much of a Never-Say-Die Legends fan you are, send it our way!
Everyone who participates in either event gets tossed into a raffle to win some sweet prizes.
For the full details on entering and a peek at the prizes offered, head over to Get Me Off The Moon's Facebookk post.
I'm gonna be a downer. I give up. Megaman is completely dead. Capcom is treating his corpse like a pinata. Beat it with a stick, toys fall out. Sell nothing but merchandise to the few people who think it's helping him make a comeback. Occasionally buy another pinata with another re-release, port, or "collection".
ReplyDeleteIt's sad but true,I also gave up long time ago.

ReplyDeleteThe moon looks fine, adjust there, adapt there, adhere there.

Talk about beating a dead horse. Capcom isn't going to bring back Megaman in game form anytime soon unless it's in the form of some cameo and it sure as hell isn't bringing back Legends 3 from the grave.
ReplyDeletemy god feels like just yesterday i was getting screwed over by capcom
ReplyDeleteThey still don't have 100,000 likes, but I sure do love me some Legends.
ReplyDeleteFive years... Capcom is not going to do anything at all. We have a new Megaman cartoon show. We have a gold Megaman headphone. We have some Mega stuff. But what we don't have is a new Megaman game like MML3, MMX9, and others.
ReplyDeleteJust five years and I'm still disappointed. The reason why I gave up on Capcom is Megaman franchise is dead because of the cancellation of Megaman Legends 3. I blame on Capcom's doing.
The negative meme-filled piggybacking upon Mighty No. 9's flaws - and the subsequent weak critical reception and sales - are worrying for seeing any more games of the classic ilk. Almost any person in charge of major decision making for what games to be developed are going to look, point, and say "consumers don't want this kind of game any more."
ReplyDeleteSales-wise, not many Mega Man games actually broke the million mark! Capcom understands there's a loud minority of people who still enjoy the character and they are happy to provide nods to this, but there's a shortage of people willing to put forth the money to buy the games themselves.
When the cartoon gets a video game tie-in - of which I'm certain there will be - I think they might go a completely new direction with it. This isn't a bad thing... after all, Mega Man Legends and Battle Network were about as far from typical Mega Man games as you could get, and years down the line they still have their fans. (Heck, Tron Bonne herself got to come play in Marvel vs. Capcom 3!)
Whenever something does come down the line, I just hope it'll be given a fair chance, and not be dismissed off the bat as 'looks different, sucks, won't buy/care.'
Games are ultimately a business. The best way to do one's part, is to keep an open mind and enjoy what we do get without throwing one's hands up and screaming 'THIS SUCKS' at the first flaw. It's time to move on past the internet culture of entitlement and nihilism, and to embrace the multi-faceted nature of game development and its realities.
Not with cynicism, but understanding and appreciation of what one gets. Far as I care, we got so much already to play and share with friends and family, present and future, until the end of time.
No, Mega Man has never made past the millions mark. But sales numbers themselves don't actually matter. What matters is that the dev gets decent returns based on how much went into the game. Mega Man games have always been cheap & easy to make and have always garnered decent returns. If Capcom wanted to make Mega Man 11, all they would have to do is crank out about 12 new levels and a new soundtrack. No new engine, no new assets, no change in format or progression, no story that would take more than 5 minutes to come up with, and voila.
DeleteProtodude, you really need to start unapproving these cynical assholes that keep commenting.
DeleteWhy? They are very much entitled to their opinion.
Delete'(Heck, Tron Bonne herself got to come play in Marvel vs. Capcom 3!)'
DeleteShe was already in MvC2 and was a top 15 character. Her popularity and performance in 2, much like certain other characters on the Marvel side, guaranteed her a slot in 3.
'When the cartoon gets a video game tie-in - of which I'm certain there will be - I think they might go a completely new direction with it.'
It arguably is a bad thing. We were informed a couple years ago that the priority was to get Classic Megaman on his feet first before discussing the spinoffs. Instead, what we have is a reboot that attempts to have the best of both worlds from Classic and BN/SF(Remember who else had a partner that enabled them to transform?), that is offputting to classic fans, and doesn't appear to be as refined as other TV shows currently on the market for that age group, even from companies like DC and Marvel.
@Anon3:35: (I am not the opening anon, I just hate this logic) That only works if the ends are to benefit that small development group or slightly past that only.
DeleteCapcom is not gonna approve a little girl making lemonade just because it makes a profit and covers its production costs, that profit may not mean jack to a gigantic company in the large scheme. In fact a large company might look at that as a liability since that is less manpower contributing to projects that get returns enough to support a large company.
Personally though I think Mega Man sales pretty decent, 4 game in the million sellers and a bunch over half a million is a good return for Capcom overall. Mega Man just needs to be advertised more, less in-group fighting and more acceptance and evolution of the games graphically to remain contemporary.
I miss the Rockin' Mega Blue Bomber Man... ;_;
ReplyDeleteWhy was Mega Man Legends 3 canned and kicked? While I'd prefer a game, Capcom doesn't seem to be interested on making one, so... How about releasing MML3 as an official manga or novel? A book mighty be better than nothing, no?
I can really only speculate, but back then the 3DS was not doing that hot. Its early reception was rather poor, and only started picking up after a price drop some time later.
DeleteI'm very certain their stockholders went, "we have no confidence in this game, it is based on a niche and long-dormant franchise on a system that is not selling well." It was reasonable to assume that the game might not have done well, for the risks involved, so I don't really begrudge the business decision behind it.
I feel if they had waited for a while longer and tackled it a few years down the line, we'd have gotten it. If they were allowed to release the demo at all, that might've clinched it too. However, if they had no confidence even with the demo, there's not much one can do about that.
