The Latest Mighty No. 9 Trailer Sure is Something (Updated)

Bad, cringey narration permeates the newest Mighty No. 9 trailer from publisher Deep Silver. Lines like "make the bad guys cry like an anime fan on prom night" will have you dialing the volume way down. It's hard to discern if they're going for a satirical 90's tone or if it's just that horrible.

In the trailer's defense they did cut decent footage. The visual aesthetic leaves much to be desired, but the gameplay looks solid enough. We'll know for sure on June 21st.

UPDATE: Even Inti Creates' president thinks it's bad.

  1. Hmmm, sometimes I wonder if marketing people ever get out and see who they're marketing to. Why would you dis on anime fans with a game whose user base will likely be anime fans?

  2. I actually liked the commentary. Yeah, it didn't necessarily sell the game to me, but I did get a good chuckle out of it.

    1. So uhh what is cringe worthy about this again? The announcer sounded fine to me, I'm starting to believe the Mega Man fans are just unhappy 90% of the time now, and I guess I'm part of the 10% that doesn't complain about everything or take offense to an obviously joking commentary meant to be satirical comedy, and yes I am an anime fan and you'd think other anime fans would understand satirical comedy, also the gameplay seems fine to me and I will be buying the game when it comes out.

I mean seriously over 10k dislikes over one joke people need to get over themselves and stop taking offense so easily literally hundreds of youtube comments complaining about it.

    2. Its not just the joke dude. Alot of people are upset on how inafune """"managed"""" the 4.1 Mil. The game looks like a joke. There are at least 3 3D megaman fan games that look like they have a better budget.

  9. Sure are a lot of shills in these comments. You CANNOT think this was funny. Seriously. Do you guys like Big Bang Theory or something?

    1. agreed sir I thought it was funny as hell

    2. If the laugh track is removed from a sitcom, and the sitcom instantly ceases to be funny in any way, the sitcom is objectively terrible. Laugh tracks aren't supposed to CREATE humor. They are supposed to SUPPLEMENT humor.

Big Bang Theory needs to die in as many fires as possible, just like MN9 does.

  12. I'm not offended, but it seems like they're trying too hard at this point.

And meanwhile I haven't gotten my console survey...

    1. That's very strange. You need to contact them immediately because they sent out a follow up e-mail saying every backer completed the survey.

  13. The narration was corny, but everything else seemed fine. Do people really think the narration was that bad that the video has that many dislikes? Were people just really offended by the anime fan on prom night remark? It's a stupid comment, ya, but I feel like people are blowing this out of proportion to hate it this much.

    1. yeah agreeds it stupid for people to get all pissy about a trailer its not like its that stupid new Cod trailer that came out now people can yell about that not this new game sight the internet is to drama filled

    2. It's easier to get offended than just admit the narration is awful and they made a bad call.

People are pissed off enough at this game that literally anything that is news will be torn apart by people.

I won't lie, with the volume off, the video looks neat. The gameplay actually looks fast and fun but the game was dashing constantly, something I won't be doing as often.

The game will probably still be a disappointment, but at the very least we'll get it soon and we can tear it apart limb from limb.

    3. when a developer's entire pitch to sell their game *or trailer* is DASH AS FAST AS YOU CAN PAST EVERYTHING, DO NOT STOP AND SEE HOW AWFUL THIS LEVEL DESIGN IS JUST DASH PAST IT you should know what kind of experience your in for.

    4. TBH It's probably more than the narration. From what I've read backers have been jerked around a lot by Comcept.

    ... ... ...
Oh no, I'm obligated to watch this now...

    [1½ minutes later]
Eh. I've heard worse. I do have to say, I hate it when trailers tell me what I do and don't like. I also like the fact they made "enemy absorption" a key-note in this trailer... considering you can literally get all of four things from it. Temporary things that only serve to improve your level score, I might add. Well... except for the health booster. That helps you not die. But I'm getting off-track.

Not entirely sure what the announcer was going for here. Is it still cool to be abrasive and "in-your-face"? (The irony of me asking that is not lost on me.) I figured that died out in the 90s... though I guess Sonic Boom would have something to say about that. Also... who's "Vernon"? Apparently, he got a similar treatment in the other (backer?) trailer from last year, I guess...? I dunno. Feels like a running gag no one wanted, to me.

And lastly... "retro hero DLC"? So... we get a Minecraft skin for appropriate consoles, I guess...? Or is this some sort of really, really poor "character skin", like Golden Beck? Very strange... I think it really would be more useful as a Minecraft skin...

... huh. I had more to say about that than I thought I would. Welp, thanks, comment section. Your mixed reaction got me curious after Protodude did his best to dissuade me, ha hah.

  15. Whose idea was this...why it can't just be a gameplay video with ingame audio with no stupid commentary?

I feel sorry for the anime fans that donate this. And really Inafune?Insulting the anime fans when they make game filled with anime char and design? Are they just insulting themselves?

Why stop there Inafune, what about fat people or racial colour people joke? I mean is not like no one offended at all by your joke hmm.

    1. Do you ever stop bashing Inafune? I seen you on Lamefaqs when I stopped going to that godawful site a long time ago after I seen you bashing poor Inafune. You are some perverted creep and bashes anything Nintendo related. I am both a Playstation and Nintendo fan, but I am offended by what you say about Nintendo on Lamefaqs...

    2. Please don't bring Nintendo or Sony or anybody else into this.
You are only making yourself look bad , trying to bring other outside info that doesn't matter to this.

Only focus on Comcept and 8-4, they are the ones who we should only be bringing up.

As for what I think, everything Comcept and 8-4 has done, has been nothing but bad news.

Apparently no one read Aizu-san's tweet correctly. His response is the Japanese text and the English following it is someone else's comment. He chose not to leave their name/handle in to protect their identity, as well as censoring Deep Silver's name in the tweet.

  20. The game looks ok. Not great, not like it's worth $4,000,000, not like it took going on if not already exceeding 4 years of development, not like it was an open book for fans to criticize where they will be heard, not like anything shown in the concepts, not nearly as interesting as Broforce or Enter the Gungeon looks, and not nearly as awesome as 20XX or Gunvolt 2 look.

It just looks ok. The only thing I could think of that would make this game last is if it had a mode with rougelike qualities in terms of procedureally generated levels and perhaps include that in the multiplayer, or if they release a Concept filter that makes the game look something like it's concept art.

The stages don't look like they changed much from the beta either, which were also just kinda... ok. I dunno guys and gals, this game looks like it's only ever gunna be okay.

    1. The only stage in the beta, Battalion's stage, wasn't changed AT ALL aside from the addition of more camera work and voiceovers. Literally everything else in that stage, including Battalion himself, is 100% identical to its "beta" version.

Waste of $4.1m. An utter and complete waste.

  21. I'm still holding onto some hope for this bad boy! The game LOOKS a bit fun to me, though the demo did feel a little lacking. (I can't put my finger on why, though. Maybe I'm not into the dash mechanic yet.) But the promo here did seem a bit.....Off. It doesn't offend me, and I'm an anime (old school mostly) that didn't go to prom (by choice). But I can see where some might feel attached. I'm sure an apology will come soon and most likely it'll be pulled. No harm was likely meant by it all, they just said something that maybe crossed the line as inappropriate, especially to the major fan base.
