The Mega Man Star Force Crew is All Grown Up

For the Star Force fans out there, series artist Tokiko Nakashima offers a peek into the lives of Geo and friends in their junior high school years. It's not exactly the fourth sequel you're looking for, but it's definitely something to whet the appetite. Fan service at its finest...

Thanks, TREZ!

UPDATE: If you'd like to see a couple more pages from the CSS, hit up Rock Miyabi's place!

  1. They look kinda generic, like most other anime school students. At least before they all looked like individuals.

    1. Well it's just School Uniforms. I doubt they'd wear those the majority of the gAme if it were to ever happen.
...Except Sonia, dunno what look she's even trying to pull off there.

    2. If I remember correctly, Sonia was/is a rock/pop (I forgot which one) star, being part of Japan's Idol culture.

  2. Excuse me while I cry in the corner at the very idea of this not being a reality.
    Maybe someday...

  3. Ok... For a second there I thought ther was going to be a 4th game of the SF series.... Don't play with my emotion like this Tokiko just don't.....

  4. You kidding? That's all Capcom does anymore.

  5. Can anyone recommend to me a place online where I can order these CSS (Xover, RnR) to the U.S for a reasonable price?

  6. I wasn't even aware that I was looking for a fourth sequel.

  7. I swear to god, if I was Seto Kaiba-level kind of rich, I'd buy Capcom out and commission the 4th game in a heartbeat.

  8. Even though I don't really care so much about the credit, but since I can tell it is my scan with my scanner blemishes in the same spots, I've got this and other CSS samples on my tumblr if others are interested:

@1:54 am Anon: I've only gotten lucky on eBay, but the cheapest I've been able to get them has been $40 a piece. Hard to find anywhere else selling them. Most sellers are going for $50-100, and I assure you even with a CD, none of the CSS books are worth more than $25, honestly.

    1. Thanks for the help, hey since it is so rare and not really worth an excessive price, do you mind scanning all the unique content in the book that is not in the RnR/SSM CW?

    2. But I space out my scan blog posts, so that I don't use them all up in one day! How else do I draw in followers and keep them? ;p

All the CSS books are only a mere 30 pages. And 6 of those 30 full pages are already up. But I'll never be the guy who posts everything. Sorry. Gotta be fair to the publishers, still. There were a few others I thought about posting eventually, but I've also been trying to double check other sourcebooks and guides to make sure they are legitimately new. For example, I thought there was a new Thunder Zerker concept in here, and I almost put it in my second batch of scans, but then I found it in the Tribe Ultimate Navigation guidebook from '07. 'Course I don't own every book imaginable, and there's always the possibility it's new to somebody. But the EXE CSS was the only one of the 5 that legitimately marked "new" art as such, and didn't require me to do a double-take through other books.

Anywho, I'll put up another post in a day or so focusing less on full pages and more on a few more unique individual concepts. No promises there is something for them, but do you have any character/game preferences in mind?

    3. Well, I already have the Mega Man Star Force Official Complete Works, I don't want you to scan the entire CSS book, just the new art not found in the Official Complete Works book.

So if the two you have already posted are the only new art that uses a whole page, than you don't need to scan anymore pages. Just any art unique to that book would be nice.

Like for example the Misora/Sonia page you scanned contains mostly artwork found in the OCW, but it has some unique bikini Xover artwork.

I only care about really evident unique art, like the Jr High pic posted above or the link you posted here. If there are any really exclusive art like that left, those are what I would be interested in because I don't want to be left out. Like I don't really need the Xover Misora for example, so you don't have to go through the hassle of scanning just that since I can find it anywhere and it's really insignificant...

    4. Man.. Rockman EXE CSS is the one CSS I have. The two (well three including BoF if we're talking outside franchises as well) I want are the RnR CSS, and the RM Xover CSS.

    5. @11:55 anon: Yes, as I mentioned in the second paragraph of my linked post, Ishihara and Nakajima's full page pieces are the only major new art pieces, sadly.

Everything else 'new' that I haven't scanned is just rejected concepts, either sketches or flat colors, similar to the Misora batch of scans.

Still, more effort than they put into the Zero CSS. :/

  11. Protodude bringing on the pain from this always knowing we may never get a 4th game in the series ever. Since capcom doesnt know what to do.

Hopefully nintendo buys them out so we can finally get a megaman game that is not a remake of something of else. Please!

    1. Eh.. It's not a matter of Capcom not knowing what to do.

It's fairly safe to say due to their poor sales that SF4 and ZX3 will not happen. Even if the franchise revives, we're not going to get ZX3 or SF4. The priority would probably go Classic+X>Legends and/or BN>ZX/SF, regardless of who the developer is.

    2. The heck are talking about? Star Force as a series out sales Legends by a lot and it most certainly out sales ZX, and Battle Network is the second highest selling series in the franchise out selling the X series. No game in the entire Battle Network series developed by Capcom sold less than 300,000 units in total.

The original Star Force sold 593,675 units in Japan alone, The second 291,962, the third 174,426 in Japan only. Making it a million unit seller in Japan alone.

Mega Man Legends by comparison under the same conditions, its first game barely broke 100,000 units at 117,237, the second entry sold even worse at 88,131. Tron Bonne dead last at 61,127. The re release for PSP is literally the worst selling Mega Man release developed by Capcom on record, selling less than 16,000 units in total. In comparison games released around the time seemed successful. MMPU:61,972/MHX:134,000/ZX:94,341/ZXA:63,977.

    3. I imagine the logic is more that Battle Network has already been finished and was suffering a bit from over-saturation at the time, and PR-wise odds are that in the scenario of a franchise revival Legends would immediately get an importance boost even if it never sold that well, simply to avoid any future figurative "but you haven't gotten him off the moon!"

      Delete
    4. That's because Classic, X, and Legends are still not resolved. Also X and Legends had the misfortune of being the prime targets of Capcom's terrible business ideas throughout the late 90s and early 2000s

  12. I thought SF ended fine with SF3 being the last one,...why so much want for a 4th? It's like BN when people want a 7th for some reason. :/

    1. I just want more Battle Network styled battle gameplay. Most of the plot and dungeons can go take a hike, but that combat was glorious.

  13. Are you serious? That is like not wanting a new Sper Mario, because the princess was saved.

    1. The point is, people like games for being games they can play, not stories they can enjoy exclusively. MMSF could do so much with the gameplay, like if Capcom focused more on a aim and shoot, with the behind shoulder third person view (which they already had), and less on panels, it would make MMSF really unique and stand out more. That would also open up a bunch of possibilities in innovative gameplay designs.

  15. Unfortunate placing on Luna's foot. Looks like Geo's all chubbed up!

  16. This artwork is much appreciated, As much as I'd love an SF4, and I do think it could be possible with all the unanswered questions and plot points from the third games post game, I really don't know how Capcom could go about it whatsoever, Still some kind of remake of 1 or 3 could be nice, I'd love to see the series brought to life with fresh new graphics, rebalanced gameplay, and the return of online PvP, I'd buy that in a heartbeat. At the very least Capcom should put Mega Man SF in their next crossover fighting game, he's got so much potential for it, and It'd be great to see an underrated hero get some attention from a major release.
