Mega Man 3 Improvement 2.0 Released

The history of Mega Man 3's development is a bumpy one. While by no means a bad game, production was strained and turbulent, according to former series producer Keiji Inafune. Due to time constraints and other pesky factors, many of Mega Man 3's ideas were left unfinished; the finer details ultimately glossed over. The game we've come to know is only a glimpse of what Inafune and his team truly envisioned.

That's where Kuja Killer comes in. Since 2012, Kuja has been developing a patch to fine tune Mega Man 3 to perfection. And now, three years later, it's finished. "Mega Man 3 Improvement 2.0" brings us dozens of bug fixes, reduces lag by 70%, and re-injects a number unused graphics. The new introduction sequence by PStart and Mega Man USA has been included, too! Several of these changes and additions are highlighted in the footage above.

You can head over here and download the patch. Check out the readme before you go about your business. Enjoy!

  1. It says a whole lot when you love a game enough that you're willing to jump in and try to set right what one believed went wrong, after much has been said about the game's production being troubled. Thanks for bringing this to our attention, Protodude!

I'll be sure to give it a spin.

  2. Could you imagine this hack if it also (somehow miraculously) integrated Rushjet1's remade soundtrack? I get chills just thinking about it.

    1. Well, the ROM now has enough space for more complicated or longer songs... but hacking the music is not as easy as one might think. And unfortunately, the currect sound engine is not enough for his songs.
Someone (I don't think he wants to see his own name here) is/was working on a custom sound engine for MM3 that can handle custom DPCM samples and etc., but he hasn't released it... yet.

  3. Is there any documentation about the development of this game?

This is the first time I had heard of it being "bumpy" and would like to read up on it if it were possible.

  4. I'm very impreased how people manage to get so many "forgotten" data and put it on a rom, and what a job he has achieved with MM3. But, is there anyone willing to upload or at least send me an already patched version of MM3? I still can't get how to do it :(
    Thanks

    1. You need to have a copy of Mega Man 3 or Rockman 3 (either legally dumped or illegally downloaded from the internet), download Lunar IPS patcher or any other IPS patcher and the zip file from Board 2's uploader or from RHDN.net. Then, launch your IPS patcher, select Mega Man 3/Rockman 3 as the unmodded ROM, and the IPS file for that version.

I've uploaded the patched ROM to MediaFire but I cannot include the download link here, because... I'm simply not allowed to do, because of Capcom. Sharing a patch is different than sharing an actual ROM. Please send an e-mail to [zieldakmail@gmail.com] so I can send you the download link.
