The man, the myth, the legend. Lucas Gilbertson, the voice of Zero in Mega Man: Maverick Hunter X, Mega Man X: Command Mission, and Mega Man X8, returns to voice the red crusader in a new Mega Man X4 redub -- Zero vs. Colonel.
Though perhaps not as popular as a certain other cutscene, Zero's initial confrontation with Colonel remains an important and noteworthy part of the character's story arc. With the addition of Lucas' vocal cords, it's made all the more exciting.
While you're at it, check out Lucas' previous X4 redub here!
The man, that doesn't, sound right for Zero. Lucas Gilbertson, the voice of Zero in Mega Man: Maverick Hunter X, Mega Man X: Command Mission, and Mega Man X8, returns to voice the red rocker in a new Mega Man X4 redub -- Zero vs. Colonel. (much better)
ReplyDeleteActually I'm not gonna lie, that sounded pretty good, and I hate the guy's voice for Zero. So yeah, that should say something to the skeptics who would otherwise skip this. This is the only one though.
and, as someone who loves that guy's voice for Zero, I didn't think it was done too well, waaaay better than the original, but the VA was a bit off.
DeleteYep, yep definitely needs more surfer dude in his voice, it was just lacking this time around.(sarcasm)
DeleteIt's not that bad! I think his voice fits very well for Zero! He doesn't need a raspy voice. He needs that cocky, better than you attitude behind it, and I think Lucas delivers it very well! Muuuuch more so than some from the past! The hallway or wherever is empty, so wouldn't there be an echo anyway?
DeleteZero doesn't have a cocky better than you attitude though. I think that's you just projecting a stereotype of the way he looks.
DeleteNo, I promise that's not what I'm doing. Listen to some of his banter against his enemies. (Maybe that's read. Lol) He picks and prods some of his enemies to get a rise from them. I'm not saying he's like Ken Masters cocky, but from my take, and maybe I'm misunderstanding our red rocker, he's good and he knows it!
DeleteThough he does change dramatically in Megaman Zero. No more jokes. No more picks and prods. I've always thought X brought out that side of him.
Maybe you're right and I'm conflating his MMZ self to his X, I'd have to replay/research to further investigate.
DeleteGreat job! It sounds a bit too much like he's talking through a tin can though. I'd have lightened up on that a bit.
ReplyDeleteImpressive, but I'm not a fan of the "hall echo" effect.
ReplyDeleteI like it. Now I need all of X's vocals in X4 redubbed.
ReplyDeleteAnd Mega Man's vocals redubbed in Mega Man 8.
..and Volnutt's vocals in Legends 2.
Agreed.
DeleteDisagreed well...with all aside from X's vocals lol. X's vocals in X4 were done by the same actress that voiced Mega Man in 8 because the games were dubbed simultaneously and hastily. A poor casting, but there is nothing wrong with Mega Man in Mega Man 8. That's how his voice is supposed to sound. Adolescent, kiddish. X, however, needs to sound older.
DeleteAs for Volnutt, I really liked Susan Roman's take on him. Knowing her voice as Sailor Jupiter, it was instantly recognizable lol. It may be a higher pitched voice, but I think it suited how he looked in MML2. I don't think it'd work in L1, and vice versa.
Watch the gorilla scene in Mega Man 8 again. With headphones. Then tell me that's how you'd like Mega Man to sound.
DeleteTo be fair, he's screaming at the top of his lungs in the Japanese version, too. And it lasts just as long as it did in the US version. Difference being, Rock's Japanese voice actor is a professional who was in several series prior to and following this video game (such as Ryoko in Tenchi Muyo).
DeleteYa know something funny? After I watched the remastered Day of Σ, I immediately went and watched Lucas' take on the infamous Iris scene from this game. And now he and some folks did this scene as well! Nice!
ReplyDeletethis sounds waaay better than the original dubs!!!
ReplyDeleteHell a cat screaming sounds better than the original dubs. Honestly I think they just pulled random people off the street to dub some of these voices back in '98 =P
Lol it was a bit rough wasn't it? I remember first getting my Playstation, how excited I was when I got Megaman 8! I was SO AMPED! Anime cut scenes, voices, the sprites? And music?
DeleteIt all was pretty good, except the voices. Now I understand as a child robot, Megaman should sound as such, but the voice in Powered Up seemed to fit the bill perfectly! X the same in Megaman X4. I was just as amped, freaking out about playing as Zero, all that! The story, cutscenes, all wonderful! The voices were tough, though.
Ah, you even mentioning gaming from the 90s brings me back so much! The exciting build up of "Megaman Neo" (Legends) had me going ballistic for what felt to be an eternity!
X4 is '97 my friend.
DeleteHonestly I don't think the people who voiced Iris and Colonel did the characters justice; they felt disappointing. And I get this was an "angry" scene, but heck, Zero sounded almost TOO angry, just like his re-dub of the death scene. I don't know and sorry, he's a good voice actor and all but this and the death scene re-dub felt flat to me.
