I orginally liked Archie, honest I did, I am not usually a negative person, but now I pray as hard as I can to whatever exists with enough power, for Archie to lose the license to Mega Man. A dead Mega Man is better than a desecrated Mega Man.
ReplyDeleteAnd who knows, maybe it will be picked up by a company like Marvel. At least then Mega Man or any of its other series would have something more to crossover with other than Sonic or Sabrina.
Desecrat- What is wrong with you people!?
DeleteJust let the babies cry in their corners, Cyber.
DeleteAnd it's kinda funny that he thinks Marvel or DC would treat Megaman any better.
Marvel can barely go 6 months without throwing everyone in another stupid crossover...
DeleteUh who cares if Mavel treats him any better, they have a wider variety of characters and styles to incorporate Mega Man into. Also they have much better and cooler everthing in my opinion. If they treated him exactly as Archie did, but instead we get crossovers with Spider-Man, X, X-Men and such, that would be a step up in my very honest and direct opinion. Plus if the already peexisting relationship between Marvel and Capcom is made stronger by it, that would be a plus, because the two working together could be hugely beneficial in many different ways.
DeleteAnd who said anything about crappy DC? Image, Udon and others should be your go to examples.
Archie has done a lot to appeal to fans. I've been surprised how faithful they've even kept to the source material, and I've even liked much of the new content they've put in their works. But they are a business first, and a business is going to do what is more profitable to bolster sales in order to keep the brand alive. The crossovers sell, not only due to now having two fanbases to pool profits from, but now you've caught the interest of gamers who are curious. And if you don't like the crossovers, you don't have to read them, simple as that. You're not obligated to pick it up. Archie has done the best they can to keep the classic storyline untouched by it, from what I've seen. Do I particularly like the Sonic Boom crossover? Not really. But I'll give it a shot, and maybe it will surprise me. At least they're treating the license with more discretion and respect than Capcom ever has in the last several years. I would hate Marvel to have the Mega Man license. They wouldn't know what to do with it. Have you seen most of the written work Marvel has done with their comics in the last ten years? It wouldn't have the same heart and genuine passion that Ian Flynn and Spaz have put in it, that much is for sure. Those guys are total loyalists to our favorite franchise, and have treated it with as much care as you can in a business such as that. The fact that we even have a comic as good as this is still baffling to me. I say quit your whining and find something else to complain about. You can buy it, or not. Simple as that.
DeleteBtw, that cover with Amy braiding Zero is hilarious. I think that alone warrants an automatic buy. :P
@Anon5: That's the stupidest logic I've ever heard/seen, 'if you're a fan of something and it is being handled poorly according to you, keep your mouth shut and stop supporting it'. Tell me what does that solve?
DeletePeople speaking up and not supporting it at least lets the creators know what went wrong if it tanks or was not accepted largely. Contrary to popular belief, not giving your opinion and not supporting a product in combination, is the worst way of letting companies know what you like. All that does is lose company assets without them knowing why, then the company just gives up on it.
Also Marvel is ok, I like some of their stories, but there are more comic book companies out there than Marvel or DC.
It is cool that you think the covers are hilarious, I've personally never really associated X with deliberate hilarity or self mockery. When I think of X and Zero I think of stern all business kind of demeanors, in fact the series goes out of its way to represent the characters this way, and not "happy fun time". That is why I like the series too, I have other avenues for lightheatedness, too much actually. A lot of people complain about everything getting dark or serious, but I think the opposite dwarfs that style and is way more common. That is at least my reasons for not caring about that cover and what it represents.
You are free to voice your opinion. But your complains are asinine. What you want sound like that a Megaman/X comic should be devoid all humor and their own personality. The X games have a more serious tone compared to classic or BN, but are far from grimdark. The Maverick roster consist the like of a sponge, a seahorse, a peacock, and a mammoth with a detachable tank. That also goes into X and Zero, as they use the powers of the Maverick, which included robot dragonflies and ice sleds in shape of penguins.
DeleteMarvel also isn't above doing having fun with their own characters. Making even the most threatening villain fall into comedic moments and self mockery.
And if you really want to voice your distaste for them "defiling" Megaman, why don't you take it to Archie.com or someplace and tell them to their faces and not some tiny corner of the internet to talk behind their backs. Because getting all uppity here just paints you as a crybaby.
Defile? Let's not go that far, I'm not anon1, btw another anon wrote about your stuff on the "maverick roster" in the first worlds unit covers and solies a couple of posts down, and I agree with it. I don't find wired sponge cyber peacock flame mammoth acid- etc all that silly, in cases of the original X mavericks even less so in MMHX (except chill), given that I would guess if that series continued all the other entries would get more serious too. Also you forgot where I put deliberate, all that stuff you named as you can tell are subject to interpretation and opinion, and are not explictly comedic of otherwise.
DeleteHere's more proof that this fanbase just votes out serious or dark any chance it gets, Mega Man Maverick Hunter was a new series attempting to retell the story and redesign the game mechanics of the original series in a seperate universe. People couldn't even get past how dark it was long enough to realize it was a seperate series not at all threatening to the original. Capcom knows this, that is why X is never "grimdark", Capcom knows the fans don't like radical change and usually don't accept it, but X is and continues to get more serious as time goes on, almost like the creators are easing into it.
I still believe Marvel is a superior comic label than Archie holding superior series and characters, you are free to disagree. I feel they for the most part handle their characters properly, usually when comedic moments happen to characters that are usually not associated with that in the comics, it feels natural and well balanced.
Wow you sound so salty, how do you know I haven't, which I have voiced my opinions on more prominant sites btw, and I'm not just reiterating it here? What do you even think the comment section is for anyway? It's definitely not for circle jerking each others' thoughts, or at least shouldn't be, I'll tell you that much. Also name calling never affected me, I could easily call others voicing their opinions names, like you for example, but I'm mature enough to address the subject and stick with it.
@Anon talking about maverick rosters, you do realize that all of those things you've listed are machines based on actual biological organisms right? If a robot's design being influenced by a sea sponge (which is a living thing like a human) is silly, than an actual sea sponge is silly, or X is silly, as he too is based on a living organism. I think the reason why people think these things are silly is because of the art style, if it were more realistic you would have people screaming it is too realistic and unmegaman.
DeleteActually a robot based on a sea sponge with human intelligence characteristics is so practical, I can actually see something like that existing in this world in the not too distant future, doing things to help out aquatic life. I remember when the orbital elevator was introduced in X8, you had people straight ridiculing the idea as impractical, now scientist literally theorize that concept as being the MOST practical form of extraterrestrial transport.
I disliked their art for Rockman/Megaman. I missed Patrick's version. I do not need Patrick's cover.. I want his art in every page. He is so talent and Japanese draw style. No thanks for the books without Patrick's! Sorry about my English.
ReplyDeleteI don't know man, Ben is pretty rediculous, the picture poster collection thing up there looks pretty official or "Japanese" quality. I also like his Mega Man stuff more than Spaz most of the time.
DeleteHe's gone now though, so....yeah..... These Mega Man books....are looking to have a grim future.
you two are whining that an American comic book has American artistic influences
DeleteI know that Megaman's a Japanese property, but still. Nobody likes insufferable purists.
Heaven forbid people have preferences.
Delete100% with Radix here.
DeleteAlso, whatever happened to everyone's enthusiasm from the first crossover? You know, the one I had a negative attitude towards and people got mad at me for? For the first time, I'm genuinely excited for this. I'm all for a lighthearted crossover, and maybe I should put off reading comments here because lately they've been so negative.
What are you talking about, I (second Anon) am praising an American comic book artist. In fact Ben Bates is one of my favorite MM/RM artists, Japanese or otherwise. The man is godly at producing artwork.
Delete@Second anon I was replying to: You only mentioned that Ben Bates has an animesque art style, implying that anything else somehow means that the successful comic book has a "grim future".
Delete@ Anon who replied to me: There's preferences, and then there's leaving the exact same comment on every single blog post featuring non-Spaziante comic art. It got real old real fast.
I was saying the comic book had a grim future because of lose of talent (among other things) in general.
DeleteThank you RADIX, I see people go on anon almost every time the comic is talked about here, and complains about the same thing over and over.
DeleteAlso for people that don't know, not only is Patrick known for drawing really slow, which is why they don't have him do the main issues normally, it's common for comics to change artists all the time. Marvel and DC do it all the time as well, I hear it's due to not wanting to pay more if they did the art for the issues all the time, but I don't know if that's true or not.
The crossover involving both X and Rock seems odd. However the current story arc, MM3, has been freaking fantastic and I know after 3 months of a potential bad story it'll move on to a good one.
ReplyDeleteThis is going to be one busy crossover... X canon all the way up to Axl, the Deadly 6, Classic Megaman with who knows what, Sonic Booms crap, Sonic Archie OCs, standard Sonic characters... Geeze...
ReplyDeleteI love the way Sigma's drawn each time he shows up in these covers. They have him looking appropriately menacing all the way through.
ReplyDeleteArchie Megaman comics are ALWAYS going to suck so long as they remain attached to Sonic Comics like some deformed siamese twin. (Kinda like Basket Case)
ReplyDeleteBut as long as Archie insists on using crossovers to boost sales, and Sonic fanfic writers to save money on talent, there's no hope that these comics will get any better, or that a more responsible comic publisher will acquire the rights.
Mega Man sells so poorly they have to keep doing these crossover events like these two Sonic ones and the glorified X pilot last year to inflate sales.
DeleteLast I checked, the Megaman book is actually doing pretty well, or at least well enough to be considered one of the best comics of 2014.
DeleteEither way, I find it hilarious how mortally offended you two are getting over a comic company doing (benign) things to earn money. It's not like they're A BUSINESS or anything.
Just because something is critically reviewed doesn't mean it's selling. That's why cult classic is a term.
DeleteO... M... G....
ReplyDeleteA-amy... .... Zero.. ..or rather Zero's hair.
Stix is using Zero's sabre as a pinata stick..?!
....the X fangirl in me just died of a huge gigglefit.
This is humiliating in every sense of the word. This only belongs in fan fictions. People waste money on this? Wow, just wow.
