Keiji Inafune and crew are putting the call out for more crowdfunding, according to today's newest Mighty No. 9 update. His studio, Comcept, are asking slacker backers to help reach a $190,000 goal by the end of 2014. If successful, all backers will receive a code to download an additional stage and boss for Mighty No. 9 by summer 2015. The new boss is none other than Beck's fierce rival, Ray (name not final).
As Beck's opposite, Ray is intended to be a tragic character with a huge defect: he is deteriorating. Ray needs to absorb and consume other robots to survive, much like a vampire. Designer Kimokimo deliberately designed the character to appear incomplete -- parts of his body are literally breaking down into Xel, the fundamental building blocks of robotic matter.
Ray and his accompanying stage are being billed as "potential DLC." Comcept says, "We want to stress that none of the developers have or would begin working in earnest on this DLC until their work is done on the Mighty No. 9 retail release."
To help ease inevitable tension, they've laid out their entire cost table, a breakdown of everything $190K will cover. You'll find that and additional details right here.
Hmm... Nope. I totally do not see any influence from anything else and certainly not from a series the person in charge of this series was responsible for. Not a trace. Not even a tiny bit. No siree Bob. Not even a modicum. Nope nope nope.
ReplyDeleteNot trying to sound negative..but what;s the point of this?
ReplyDeleteWhy not just work on the main game first instead of focusing DLC stuff? Was the kickstarter money not enough to fund the game despite the kickstarter goal has been reached and many of the stretch goal been completed.
The game may have beta demo out now for certain backer but still isn;t it better to complete the game first?
Clearly, the folks at Comcept don't have their ducks in a row.
DeleteMain product first, extra content, cartoon, comic, spin-offs, sequels, crossovers and tie-ins, and other goodies later, fellas. You know, once the brand's been established and all.
Because Inafune doesn't know the meaning of patience. He wants MN9 to be a direct competitor to MM by doing everything it has already done before.
DeleteAt least that's how it looks like.
-Dr. Jerk.
I have no problem with negativity in regards to Comcept asking for more money. After being overfunded by literally Millions of dollars, it's absurd for us to be asked for anything other than patience or ideas while they work on what we paid for. It's truly insulting at this point.
DeleteI fear that the Inafune I loved for many years is not the same man. Megaman fans are going from the frying pan (Capcom) to the fire (Comcept). I hate to admit it, but Hideki Kamiya pretty much nailed it over 2 years ago: https://twitter.com/PG_kamiya/status/249735186936369153
Kamiya's one to talk. I see more parallels between Bayonetta and Devil May Cry, than Mighty N0. 9 to Mega Man. At least Beck has a different personality than Mega Man. Only difference for the former is gender.
DeleteAnd Kamiya has all the grumpiness of Alan Moore without the depth to back it up
DeleteAs a backer, let me educate you non backers on something detailed I'm the original email.
Delete1- they're not asking for anything. If slacker backers give that much the dlc is free for everyone as part of the game. If not it's gonna be purchase-able
2- they're not working on it until the game is complete, which is a few months before it's release. The only thing they're doing now is conceptualizing it.
3- they had enough money to complete the game since the third day of the Kickstarter if not sooner. Literally everything is bonus content that can be paid for that also allows those interested in the game now that weren't before to support it and get early access to goodies and such. Please stop seeing it as them asking for money. They aren't. They're basically saying if you put in more, they can put in more content. That's it.
" let me educate you" really isn't the kind of wording you should use here, but this is still too much to ask for DLC for a game that isn't out yet. Whether you are a backer or not, it should be plain as day that Mighty No.9 fans are being milked dry by Inafune - and they're just sitting there and taking it. Some backers are not, and have the common sense to not be okay with this kind of stuff because they really don't respect such a poor business practice. This is highly unprofessional considering the kind of game that Mighty No.9 is. To top this off, Ray is described as Beck's "Rival" and that would mean he's an important element to the story. You'd think they'd throw something like that into the game in the first place.
DeleteI am not a backer, although I know plenty of friends who backed the game - some of them even feeling extremely betrayed by this.
Supporting this is your own decision, but some people choose not to support it because they feel this is not even needed. By all means, support it if you wish - no one is stopping you, no one is dis-respecting you, but trying to "correct" people's views on something like this is simply not the way to respond to those who actually see a legitimate problem with this.
So it's a mix of Protoman's faulty state that's slowly deteriorating him (although I guess that was fixed) and scarf, plus Zero's looks and original intention as a death machine...
ReplyDeleteNice to see how much they're making MN9 its own thing.
- Dr. Jerk.
My only problems with this is the price, they ask for almost 200k for one stage/character and they asked for 900k for the first goal in kickstarter, that should be +8 stages/characters, something is not right with this prices.
ReplyDeleteAt the end I don't care, I'm happy that I backed the game, and the beta was fun but they are doing a poor job with this and the VA campaign.
Just a reminder, when the original goal was just 900K, the game was only on PC and only had 6 stages and bosses, aditional funds were required and obtained to add more of them.
DeleteAlso, this is a DLC pack, and they have to get more money for it because the game now is releasing like in 10 different plataforms and they have to pay the companies royalties for DLC distribution on every one.
Also note that the price includes the full voice acting. It's not an extra 190,000, it's a total.
DeleteOh that's not even subtle. Rei is even Japanese for Zero.
ReplyDeleteHe's also Mighty No. 0, I believe. I don't think it's such a big deal, though. It's not like we don't already know this whole thing is a way for Inafune to make a Mega Man game, despite copyright issues. But before you knock it, think about another character besides Mega Man that had a similar fate: Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. Walt Disney couldn't use the character anymore, because Universal (at the time) held the copyrights for the character. So Disney had to create a new character that he had the copyright for, and ended up making a character that was VERY derivative of Oswald. That character was Mickey Mouse.
DeleteThe Walt Disney comparison is actually a pretty good one. Granted, it doesn't line up perfectly, since Mega Man has had about a 26 year head start right now, while Oswald was still relatively new when Disney created Mickey Mouse, but I do see what you're getting at and, for the most part, agree.
DeleteHis name has to be Ryoma. Because is totally based on the Super Mecha known as "Getter Robo"
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_Pt-sv45RM
Considering that series, as well as several other "giant mech cartoon" series have been the inspiration for a lot of Inafune's Mega Man designs, I can't say I'm surprised. Good find!
DeleteYeah, also has a lot references to Mazinger too. =D
Delete(Bored wave) Hello, Zero. Glad to see you finally made it.
ReplyDeleteOh Lord, Inafune really DOES love Zero. The red/ yellow color scheme, the huge green helmet crystal, huge pointy helmet thingies, the green chest thingies, square helmet cheekguards, the white/red boots, the defective state and evil character, blue eyes and tan skin, the name "Rei"/"Mighty No. 0". Oh man the initial sketches even had a long ponytail. How is this NOT Zero ?
ReplyDeleteThey both look like girls too (I mean look at those hips!)
And the corny title "Zero to Hero" ahahahaha Why don't you make it even more subtle?
Tan skin??? Uhm, I can tell you hate Zero just by your tone and everything, and that's cool, I can agree with that. But you do realize MN9 is Mega Man re-skinned right? Or that that Beck and Call are pretty much Mega Man and Roll?
DeleteStop acting like this whole project wasn't deliberately obvious in doing what it does, whenever it's convenient.
I will agree that (while I don't think Zero looks like a girl that much and there is more feminine looking dudes that get away with it in gaming cough *Link/Marth* or act feminine aahummm *X*) I do think the hips and high-heels need to go, IMO anyway. Not because of girlyness just because it looks retarded.
And with that said, Link bids you a farewell http://livedoor.blogimg.jp/sexywarrior/imgs/0/1/0179482a.jpg
Oh and Zero says what's up http://static.squarespace.com/static/5227cd84e4b02515a5badc7f/52d1ed7be4b067bcd604d41f/52d1eda2e4b067bcd604d435/1389489571904/x2_zero.jpg
Delete@ Anon 2, I actually like Zero even if I don't really like the Megaman Franchise, so I'm rooting for this design, I honestly hope they don't change it and I'm looking forward to seeing what they pull off with this boss. And I'm actually happy MN9 is like ..Megaman reskinned. I dunno why you got I hated Zero, it's just that I couldn't believe they pulled it off XD I always thought Mighty No 7 would be the series' Zero. But I like Ray already!
DeleteZero's tanner than X, I dunno, I don't remember. Haven't seen megaman stuff in detail for years. NVM.
OMG that Link picture, what the heck?? Who thought a guy in a miniskirt was a good idea ..and the pose !
I don't see what's wrong with the Zero pic, it's one of my faves :o
Nothing wrong with the Zero pic. Zero just thought he'd say what's up to Link on the way down is all.
Delete:\
ReplyDeleteI see this as getting all of the "obligatory" Mega Man throwbacks out of the way in the first game, so that the series isn't chained down by them and fans don't expect them to continue as the MN9 series goes on.
ReplyDeleteOk, this is a low blow, but I really want to see this done. I'm in.
ReplyDeleteThis is just getting absurd now. They have 4 million. More than what they asked for, and now they're asking for more?
ReplyDeleteThat money is being used in other features, and I doubt people would be too happy if they took, lets say Call, out of the game to add Ray instead, so yes, new stuff should require more money, instead of taking away from the funds they already have.
DeleteBut I do agree, they could've waited a little before wanting to add more stuff.
Along with Zero and Bass(.EXE), Ray's design also gives me a bit of an X6 Sigma vibe.
ReplyDeleteSo let me get this straight, Comcept has enough money for a cartoon show, yet they still ask for around 190,000 for a little DLC. Honestly the more I hear about this game the more I lose interest in it.
ReplyDeleteThe cartoon show was someone else offering to make it for them. They never sought out to do that themselves and don't really have a whole lot to do with it outside of allowing it.
DeleteAs much as can't wait for this game to come out, the amount of throwbacks is getting a little ridiculous to the point of just blanant copying and horrendous amounts of fan pandering. I have to wonder if Shigeru Miyamoto were to ever leave Nintendo, he would probably start a Kickstarter with a game called Super Dario Bros. with the villain non-Koopa named Goopa, and a non-Princess Peach character named Princess Pineapple. That, or Inafune really has no originality outside of Mega Man games. I understand this is supposed to be an homage because the people who contributed feel they were "wronged" by Capcom (I'm no longer on that bandwagon of hating on them), but this is just... wow. This takes the cake!
ReplyDeleteMiyamoto would more likely make a hybrid Mario/Zelda game, where Mario-Link travels to different worlds to save Peach-Zelda and stop Koopa-Ganon lately plans to gathering the Star-Force pieces.
DeleteBut Inafune is playing the fan-service card for all it's worth. To get whatever edge he can to attract fans.
Yeah, any interest I previously had in Mighty No. 9 is officially nonexistent. This situation has gone beyond being absurd to the point where there just aren't any words to describe it.
ReplyDeleteSo, do the people who donated get their money back when everything turns out to be a total flop? >_>
The game can't flop, it's already fully funded, when it's out for sale, every penny they get would count as a profit.
DeleteAnd... No, no one is getting their money back, that's not how KS pledges work, As long as they deliver a game and backer rewards, not one can force the project to make any refunds at all; if they didn't knew that, they shouldn't had donated in the first place.
Since everyone is mentioning capcom, what exactly are they doing anyway? I haven't heard much new from them game wise.
ReplyDeleteCapcom's doing absolutely nothing with Mega Man right now, game wise. If they were, whatever they'd be doing would likely be getting even more heavily criticized than Mighty No. 9 seems to be getting. Sometimes I feel this fandom hates on everything that isn't Legends 3.
DeleteWell I don't see anything wrong with Mega Man No. 11, it's a shameless ripoff, and I'm cool with it. So don't generalize the entire fanbase. Not all of them speak up often.
DeleteI for one hated on Legends 3 as well, for it's intention to be only for the 3DS. :p
DeleteSounds like kind of an absurd notion to me.
DeleteThis is a strange occurrence with a project that already has a lot of questions and controversy surrounding it. Considering people ALREADY put their money towards it, the criticisms should be expected, and I would say, certainly justified. Comcept is of course free to clear up any misunderstandings. If they can even be bothered to anymore.
As for Capcom, they certainly shouldn't be given a free pass from criticism either, but if they actually made what a lot of fans are asking for, I'd be willing to bet there would be a lot more happy fans than not. The reaction to Mega Man's inclusion in Smash being my reason for believing that.
Oh i meant in terms of non megaman games also. I guess they company isn't doing so well overall.
ReplyDeleteWow, no one reads anymore at all, they just spread their fingers out and start typing away.
ReplyDelete"We want to stress that none of the developers have or would begin working in earnest on this DLC until their work is done on the Mighty No. 9 retail release."
Meaning, they're gonna deliver on all the context of the initial Kickstarter first, FINISH THE FREAKING GAME, THEN work on adding this to a POST RELEASE version, IF the money is there.
Oy, these kids today...
And yet they're asking for the funds NOW rather than later.
DeleteI understand they want this project to be big, but for frick's sake, I'm tired of all of the funding and stretch goals. What they have is enough to make the game. It doesn't have to be bigger than what it is now.
- Dr. Jerk.
So... When will it be possible to actually donate? I don't see any link to donate anywhere, so will that be possible later on? I'm mildly confused, as Kickstarter is new to me... Would anyone mind explaining this to me?
ReplyDeleteThe KS is done, but you can donate extra funs as a slacker backer in here: http://www.mightyno9.com/en/support
DeleteThose funds would go to extra stuff like japanese voices and this DLC pack.
http://www.mightyno9.com/ Right here, it's not through kickstarter at this point but paypal.
DeleteNot even slightly surprised. It was only a matter of time before this zero piece of shit arrives one way or another.
ReplyDeleteHere is an interesting post that sums up everything perfectly:
https://conflictingviews.wordpress.com/2012/12/07/im-glad-keiji-inafune-is-gone/
inb4 bandwagon hate.
Dropped as soon as I read him gripe about the Mega Buster. The whole reason charging was dropped was because it was notoriously OP in 4-6 (and nerfed to uselessness in 7), as many fans will tell you. Removing it encourages the player to use master abilities instead. Not even going to bother listening to him rant about 9, given those screencaps.
DeleteLol.

Man that guy is full of it. It was a good laugh, I mean that article is full of opinions, assumptions, and straight up false info and half truths, to mislead the unsuspecting, gullible or unknowledgeable. Anyway despite that guy's ignorance and bias, it was an inafunny read.
DeleteEven though that guy overreacted quite a bit, I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who was furious after reading that "we've come to conclude that those fancy moves were unnecessary" crap.
DeleteWOW! Keiji Inafune/Comcept are asking us fans for more funds and they are calling us, slaker backers???! WOW! Who are they to call us slakers, they don't get that not all of us have money to spend, have financial problems, and or other things, but we contributed just a bit, just a bit that we can, given in the state that we're in individually. We gave even though little because we want to see Keiji's dream of a game made that his dream is almost our dream too, and now you call us slackers??? SLACKERS???!!! What a insult Comcept!!!!
ReplyDeleteYou're reading way too much into what is essentially a cute little rhyming nickname.
DeleteLOL!!! HAHA! It's a cute play on words dude daaaamn... This fanbase is def fun, it's fun as heck when things are active. Let me ask you, would lack back be more suited for your sensibilities? You know what, I'm not even gonna explain anything, no use. I'm just gonna sit back and wait for the inevitable-
Delete[I hate this game! The game SUX, the everything sux, from how it's made to how it's played. COMCEPT you suck!!!
to
Comcept: We are discontinuing the MN9 series, it just wasn't very well received.
Comment 1: Actually the game was pretty fun I really liked it, a few bad apples may have hated it but the majority I know of liked the game.
Next majority of comments: Yeah I have to agree.
Next few comments: What does that mean wasn't very well received? It got eights and 7.5s which is good.
other comments: I still hated that ripoff.
to
I hate you Comcept, all you do is make REVENGER games. What happened to MN9?
Yeah I loved MN9 "it was my favorite game OF ALL TIME" f u comcept all you care for is *insert superficial thing here*]
It happened with specific Mega Man Classic games like 3 and 7, it happened to Mega Man Legends, it happened and will happen more with Mega Man Battle Network, it's happening with ZX and Universe and It'll happen again for this. Refer back to this comment when it does.
Damn while playing Resident Evil 5 someone beat me to the punch. Should have finished the comment first, oh well.
DeleteThis is ridiculous! How much more of a Mega Man rip-off is this game going to be?! How come Capcom isn't suing these bozos? Capcom needs the money anyway, so I think they SHOULD just go ahead and sue Kanji Inafune and Comcept! Even the name Comcept sounds like a rip-off of Capcom. Kanji doesn't have an original bone in his body, does he? Screw this game, and how it takes a dump on Mega Man! Just because Kanji "fathered" Mega Man doesn't give him the right to make such a shameless rip-off that is just an insult the true blue hero! At least that Gunvolt game is more subtle about ripping off Mega Man Zero. But Mighty Number 9 is just shameless. They're not even TRYING to hide it anymore!
ReplyDelete1) Capcom can't sue because it isn't truly Megaman. It would be like Capcom suing SNK for the King of Fighters. Or guys behind Halo suing the guys behind Destiny
Delete2) If by some twisted legal loophole allows them to try and sue, they'll gain no money at all. Lawsuits are terrible for business most of the time.
3) Gunvolt isn't a rip off of anything. If you actually play it, you'll see it's it' own.
4) Most of the followers were crying for MN9 to be as close to Megaman as possible. Inufane is just given them what they ask for.
Capcom doesn't even have the money to hire lawyers lol
DeleteAlso, Capcom cdoesn't care at all abput megaman, so why would they sue anyone?
Capcom cares, and they've been showing it a lot lately. So I don't know where you get this assumption from.
DeleteIf they cared, were is Legends 3, MM Online and Universe?
DeleteNah, letting Nintendo use MM in Smash, selling the license for comics and Figure makers to use the characters and XOVER doesn't count as them caring enough, qhen they can't or ar not willing to produce a decent Megaman game anymore.
@Ligtning Dog: Bungie did Halo and Destiny...
DeleteMicrosoft OWNS Halo Though. Bungie does not.
DeleteDoes anyone remember Kaio? That project was announced back around when Comcept started out, but I haven't heard anything about it since.
ReplyDelete
