This video is so charming (not to mention downright funny), that I just had to share it. It's August 24th, 1990 and Tyler is about to receive his favorite game of all time: Mega Man 2.
Head below and find out why this one gift is so special.
"In 1990, I was four year old and had just recently returned from a trip to New York. It was there that I had been introduced to a little game called Mega Man 2 via my cousins who owned it," recounts Tyler on Digital Press.
"It was a gaming revelation. In the following 4 months after that trip, at every department store or toy store, I asked my parents if I could get Mega Man 2. Money was always strapped. I remember dreaming about that game, and even rewatching home movie footage from the new york trip just to relive playing it! We rented it on occasion, but of course had to return it, the cartridge leaving my little hands and into the Blockbuster Video drop box. The thud it made was like a blow to my heart."
For no special occasion, Tyler received the game from his parents in an unmarked box. "This is arguably the defining moment of my childhood as a young video gamer," he writes. "I was only 4 years old, but already I was a Nintendo kid. To this day, Mega Man 2 is my favorite game... one that I pick up at least once a year and dash through."
Tyler hopes this archived footage will rekindle a similar experience you had in your childhood. Unwrapping that one gift you wanted after days, maybe even months, of waiting.
"Mega Man 2 was indeed my Red Ryder BB Gun."
Awesome.
Mine was MM3, but I can relate a lot with this little guy.
