Rockman World Prototype Dumped


The Video Game Preservation Blog has obtained an early Rockman World prototype, the very same as Chris Covell's. As anticipated, there are a number of differences from the retail version, the most significant being the layout of a majority of the stages. Some of the graphics appear darker than the final game, too, along with a few pieces of unused music. You can find an in-depth rundown of all the differences here.

To download the proto, head to The Video Game Preservation Blog. Further research and analysis will no doubt take place at The Cutting Room Floor in the coming days. Who knows what neat things we'll find! Stay tuned.

  1. Wow! That's great! I was just on Covell's site yesterday looking at the prototype page, hoping i'd get to see the differences for myself. Lot's of RockMan prototype dumps this year, eh?

    1. And I think I've made the first discovery...

      Ya know that early Fireman stage in the final? Well... it's here as well, complete with alternate credits theme. And you can access it using the same code and everything.

    2. Found another interesting version difference.
      Metools in the Wily stage have a unique behavior. They shoot three bullets twice, then get up and walk away, using the Neo Metool sprites.

      They're essentially a combination of Mets and Neo Mets from the first two games. It's pretty neat.

  4. I wanted to play it on a SGB2 because of my SGB Commander controller, but it doesn't seem to work with LSDJ type flash carts. I tried modifying the header to see if that would do anything. It's totally beyond me.

    My XboyAdvance on the soft modded Xbox seemed to work fine as an alternative solution.
