Let's Look at the Rockman Xover Art Book

The Capcom Special Selection Rockman Xover art book is now available in Japan. The pages within shed light on many unused OVER-1 designs, including some truly off-the-wall concepts. For example, OVER-C. It's a Cinnamon-cat-thing.

These images were graciously provided by Capcom Unity member MegaModo. I've tossed up a few after the jump. For the rest, scope out this thread here.

  1. That art where it's 90% all the same pose. Wish the poses were more dynamic.

    1. Why use dynamic poses for design sheets? Are people only pointing this out because it's Xover and ignoring the fact that design sheets for characters from other series in the franchise do the exact same thing? Look at the model sheets for all the Robot Masters toward the end of the Rockman R20 book, for example.

    2. It would be one thing if they were just design sheets, but they use this same art in promo material for the actual game.

Let's NOT. Let's never mention anything about that tragedy of a non-game again.

And of course everything is in the same boring standing pose. They can't even do that right. Ugh, Xover makes me so damn mad. You're going to give me a stroke with these posts.

  4. Would've preferred if the post pointed out that Over-C represents Cinnamon from the Command Mission spin-off to clarify, rather than just saying it's a cat. Nonetheless, good work on the update.

  5. "LOOK AT ALL THIS ART WE USED FOR A SHITTY IOS GAME INSTEAD OF A REAL GAME HAHAHAHAHAHA, seriously give us your goddamn money we don't want to make anything but monsterhunter and street fighter"

    Nope nope nope nope

  7. To this day people are still complaining on this game ? :'( Waaaah ! We're spoiled cry babies, we got awesome games for 25 years but now we put all our energy hating on a mobile game that has amazing art that should be praised but no, let's bash the game that's totally unrelated to the artbook in this specific case.

...What the hell are you on about? This book has artwork from Rockman Xover, and last time I checked, that's exactly what's what's being discussed.

"Waaaah ! We're spoiled cry babies, we got awesome games for 25 years but now we put all our energy hating on a mobile game that has amazing art that should be praise"

Oh, yeah, sure, because artwork is totally the only thing that makes a game, right? Are you seriously saying that it doesn't matter in the least that Xover has such crappy gameplay, just as long as the art is good? Such flawless logic!

"To this day people are still complaining on this game ?"

You're damn right we're still complaining about it, and I'll tell you why. Capcom could be doing something more worthwhile, but they instead continue to waste time, energy, and resources on this piece of garbage, which most people want to forget ever existed.

He's not saying that the artwork is the only thing that matters about the game, he's saying it's the only thing that matters for the ARTBOOK, since it's just a book of the art. And I agree. If you just don't like the art then fine, but don't hate on the art just because it's for a game you don't like. I don't much care for Puzzles and Dragons but that game could be so bad that it makes me automatically vomit and when I play it and be the downfall of the entire gaming industry and I'd still think the art is fantastic.

Also given the overall complexity and quality of Xover I seriously doubt much time or energy is being spent on it, and it seems to be making them a sizable profit so it's actually giving them more "resources" to invest in other games. Xover isn't the reason why Capcom isn't making more games, that has more to do with much wider problems with management at Capcom. Xover is at worst harmless and uninteresting, it's nothing to get into a starwars-prequel like rage of complete denial about.

    3. Puzzles and Dragons doesn't have that great of artwork. Bad example.

  8. Thank you Kamikazek for understanding my comment ! And yes the ART right now is all that matters, the game is currently completely out of the question, the art for the game is downright beautiful ! Every set of armor is just so sharp and unique.

    1. If it helps I've seen the same thing done countless times in the past. Like I've seen people going on about how X7 sucks, while others are only discussing the art or music for the game. Or better yet how the music sucks while liking other soundtracks like XCM or X6 which use very similar styles and are largely composed by the same composers, or artwork that are drawn by the same artists getting the same treatment as well. Surely it can't be that bad if people liked the other very similar things, done by the same people.

I guess when people get into their head that a game sucks, they then can't form an opinion about other areas associated with it, without the bias they have for the game.

    2. doing the same pose for every character isn't beautiful at all. have you seen any artwork that has all the characters doing the same pose?

    3. did i say xover only the one who does that? my comment applies to every art book that uses the same pose.

    4. I don't think it's reasonable to expect an art book for a mobile phone game of all things to have a lot of diverse art.

No, I'm not saying you should enjoy it no matter what "because it's X and you're thinking it's Y", I'm just saying that perhaps there are better things to do than complain that the art for a mobile phone game uses the same pose often?

    5. @Sckarton: you do realize that having the same pose serves a specific purpose, right? it's just to show off the designs of the different armors. the purpose isn't to create a work of art, it's to create a guide for those that need to know what a character looks like. do you not know what a model sheet is?

  9. Can I purchase this out of Japan to say the US, if so, does anyone know how and where to do that for a fair (not going above 20% of the original) price?

  10. Hey Sckarton - OVER himself is one character with many armors. Look at X5's PARTS Menu where you can equip parts on specific armors, they're all drawn from the same base. Get your stuff right.

Man people hating just to hate. The Rockman XOver art is downright beautiful and no one can disprove that.

    1. what does X5 in-game sprites has to do with xover art book? all i said is having the same pose isn't doing to the art any justice. also, stop whining about people disliking the game.

  11. I like most of the art and even Over1's design, too bad it was used on an cheap iOS game instead of a more complete product.

This could've been like "Kamen Rider Decade" for the MM franchise, instea dit was just lazy re-skin of the already mediocre version of MMX for mobile.

  12. "Bawww we hate Xover it's the worst game ever, it killed megaman!!!!" Okay but it's successful in Japan and has progressively gotten better as a game so really, it didn't.

  13. Is there any full body art of kalinka? There are literally no official references of this kalinka design anywhere
