Is Mega Man Powered Up Finally Coming to PSN? (Updated)
Mega Man Powered Up, a re-imagining of the original Mega Man, was released in 2006 for the PSP. In the years to follow, the game has failed to make the digital leap to PlayStation Network. Former Capcom SVP Christian Svennson cited compatibility issues, stating “There are technical problems that neither we or Sony are able to get around. The game doesn’t run properly when put in digital form. So it’s physical only for the time being."
Today, however, there is a renewed chance of hope. Mega Man Powered Up is one among 700 digitally compatible titles for PlayStation TV in Europe. If the listing is correct, Powered Up will be joined by its Mega Man: Maverick Hunter X counterpart on or near the hardware's launch in Europe on November 14th. Powered Up does not, however, appear on the US PS TV titles (though more titles are subject to be added later).
Pending official word from Capcom, this could really go either way. Right now we can't say for certain if this is an early leak or a simple mistake. We will keep you posted nevertheless.
UPDATE: MMPU has been removed from the list. The plot thickens.

Please oh please oh please...
ReplyDeletePowered up and maverick could have new life if they uprezzed them and gave powered up a artstyle makeover. Put them out as digital titles on next gen systems. That would be fun.
ReplyDeleteIf this is true, then Capcom and Playstation US, get the move on! Bring this to the states! :D
ReplyDeleteI hope this is true but then again there is also Breath Of Fire 3 & Outrun 2006 mentioned on that list which are also currently not on the store...
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like bull. I ripped my own copy of Powered Up and played it on the Go from beginning to end perfectly. Wonder what they saw wrong.
ReplyDeleteI call shenanigans. My (questionably-obtained, but unmodified) digital copy of Rockman Rockman works just fine. Though to be fair, that's on my PSP. But I can't figure on what sort of technical issues would keep it from coming to the big screen...
ReplyDeleteThe problem with your assessment is that you think that by "digital conversion" you mean just taking a dump of the game's ROM, which just taking an exact replica of the original. Rather, Sony likely has problems with applying any extra data (DRM or what have you) without it somehow breaking the game, so it's probably something a bit more than skin deep.
DeleteJust my two cents.
finally, i'll be able to to do a full let's play on powered up and maverick hunter X on my elgato.
ReplyDeleteHaving a PSVita TV may be worth it then, If I get to play MMPU and MHX as well! Back in the day I had to borrow a friend's PSP lol
ReplyDeleteLooking over the list of games on the EU blog today, it seems MMPU has been removed from it.
ReplyDeleteRemoved from it, huh ? Not suprised. -_-!
ReplyDeleteThis and Maverick Hunter X would have had much MUCH better luck if they had been sold on the PS2 or even the DS in the first place instead of being put on an untested and overall horrible mobile gaming platform in the first place.
ReplyDeleteYeah, Capcom shouldn't have supported PSP at all. That way one of their largest properties (Monster Hunter) would've died with PS2.
