Rockman EXE Headed to Japan Virtual Console Next Week

Wii U owners in Japan will be able to download the original Rockman EXE next week on the 9th for 702 Yen ($6.90). Given the rate that these Game Boy Advance have been hitting Wii U, not to mention word of Capcom U.S' own ambitions, it seems all but certain that the game is headed to our Virtual Console soon.

This marks the first time the original Battle Network has been made available for digital download. According to Capcom, it will be followed by Battle Chip Challenge and Mega Man Zero some time this year. Dates for Battle Network 2 & 3 and Mega Man Zero 2 remain to be determined.

We'll keep you posted.

  1. Rockman.EXE has such a great design and art style. Good times my youth had, good times indeed.

  2. Cannot wait to play this again... only this time on the BIG screen! :D I would imagine this is the 1st time the Battle Network series has been released on home console too..

    1. Nah, I can play them on the BIG screen -- my laptop with an emulator. No difference. I will pass. :)

    2. Difference= Mega Man franchise earns money from purchasing this version. More money=profit. Better profits increases Capcom's chances of doing new things with the franchise

    3. Lol, as if. It doesn't matter how much money we throw at their merchandise or ancient re-releases. Mega Man is dead. Hopefully Capcom, his murderer, will be too, soon enough.

    4. Actually, there was one Battle Network game on the Gamecube. Network Transmission. Though it was sort of an odd combination of the Classic/X and Battle Network games.

Not the traditional Battle Network gameplay.

    5. How many years have fans been buying merch and re-releases to "show Capcom there's interest" in the series, or some similar sentiment?

If it's going to take this long with fans having to jump through so many hoops just to get the chance of maybe possibly getting a game considered some time in the future, I'm out.

Better game companies are making great games for me to waste my time on Capcom any longer. Thank goodness Sakurai actually listens to fans. Looking forward to Smash.

    6. You do know if Capcom dies it may result in us definitely never getting a Mega Man game EVER again right?? Even the merchandise & re-releases would stop.... As much as i am disappointed in the decisions Capcom has made recently at least they are releasing stuff on VC as well as comics, figures etc, every time i point this out, every Mega Man series has had breaks before & this time isn't any different, I'd be more concerned if nothing was being said or nothing was being released including merch (when was the last time we had anything with regards Onimusha or Captain Commando?) As for this announcement, I'm not a fan of playing games on a handheld so these being released for console genuinely has me excited to play them again properly on a TV while still supporting the franchise that got me into gaming back in the 80's if anything buying these re-releases shows Capcom there's money to be made in Mega Man games not just merchandise, heck I've seen people on forums etc playing these for the 1st time ever since seeing the Blue Bomber in Smash has prompted them to check out the series .... This fanbase needs to grow up & stop spouting vitriol whenever Capcom actually does something, I'm glad we're at least getting these re-releases, certainly beats nothing at all....

    7. Snk the company who make Metal Slug once went bankrupt but now has been reborn with more of their game coming out with a lot of fan supporting them. Now,why Capcom can;t just learn to do what is right....

    8. @CATGUN: Why Metal Slug? I mean I love that series to death, but SNK is known for The King of Fighters series and other fighting games. They don't even make Metal Slug games, they mostly just publish and license them. The first 4 games were developed by Nazca Corporation, and 4th while SNK was bankrupt by Mega and Noise Factory.

So yeah not exactly SNK's representative series.

  3. Pffft. Yeah right. The games were boring, repetitive and annoying. The Anime was better.

    2. "The games were boring, repetitive and annoying."

No my friend that would be Legends.

    3. "Repetitive" is kind of in the nature of RPGs. Which a lot of people like. Clearly they aren't for you.

Though the anime was decent for kids.

  6. Profit ? For what ? For their richness and their repeating to release merchandise like toy figures isn't necessarily. If they want to make a profit then make a new Megaman games. Otherwise, if they dont then they arent getting their money from us, period.

  7. It's funny how a game that centers around the digital space takes over ten years to finally be available in digital form. I wonder if Network Transmission will ever make it?

Also, come on, fans! Lighten up! All of this negativity in the comments section of every single bit of Mega Man news is getting old. Really old. We know Capcom isn't making a new Mega Man game right now, but at least they are putting some focus on the [good] games again, instead of all effort going towards merchandise. I'm a huge fan of Mega Man, and Legends is one of my favorite video game series of all time, but I'm not going to let what happened in the past blind me to the best thing that's happened to this franchise in a long time:

Mega Man in Super Smash Bros.!

  8. When this game comes to the states, this will be my first time playing it, and on my TV screen, too! Frankly, I'm excited! From what I've seen through pictures and Let's Plays, it looks promising!

  9. The MM fanbase sometimes.... Eh whatever, anyway Battle Network is my forth favorite series after Zero, Classic and X. It is also my forth favorite RPG series after Mana, Ys and Suikoden and kinda tied with Mario RPGs (would be higher but it generally has a poor story for its type of feel to me, but great gameplay ideas), so this I will support.

All my favorite RPGs that have random battles would be far better without them, BN is no exception. Just thought I'd also point that out. Anyone else wished BN would do away with random battles, and go with the encounter enemies on screen method?.

On another "note" I love the music from this series as well, it's my fifth favorite after X, Zero, Classic, and Star Force. So you know, I wouldn't mind at all Capcom if you brought together some classic composers for some arranged CDs for this series. if you want to sell me merch. (nudge) (nudge) Oh and the BN boss battle remix from Xover has the right idea and is a good place to start. :)

    1. Yes to MMBN remastered tracks. MM music so good.

  10. I enjoyed playing BN when I tried it. It definitely had a great world and cast that I enjoyed, but while I do like me an RPG game, it didn't really click for me, and BN2 made it harder for me to get into. Think I'll pass on this one (Even then, I don't think our Wii U can connect to the internet to access the shop anyway), but it's good to hear this. I would have only preferred a BN Collection remake, but can't always get these things.

  11. I wonder what will be different? Hopefully it all leads up to a new game but lol.
