Rockman 7 Coming to Japan Virtual Console Next Week

The Virtual Console train keeps on chuggin'. Next week in Japan, Rockman 7 will hit the Wii U on August 6th, priced at 823 Yen ($8.06). This marks the first time Rockman 7 will be made available digitally.

While a specific release date has not been set for North America, we do know it will hit our shores sometime this year. Nonetheless, if you happen to own a Japanese Wii U, take this as a heads up.

    1. Rockman & Forte rocks! I am sure that they will bring it but a question mark is will Capcom of USA finally bring a true SFC version to America in English translation for the first time ? I hate GBA version because of low resolution size.

    2. I'm pretty sure that they will bring the GBA version to VC....it's sad

I will try to find a physical copy of the super famicom version...

    3. I can see them bringing over the GBA port of Megaman & Bass over as a substitute to the original, seeing as the Wii U is also emulating GBA games.

    4. I actually think the Game Boy Advance version of Rockman & Forte has the better soundtrack arrangement of the two... but the lack of a one-button Dash for Forte really messes me up. And the official English translation is... interesting.

      "Douchie". Heh heh heh.

    5. @Joseph

GBA versions better than the SFC version's music?
That has to be a joke, please...

With somehow superior technology and hardware, the GBA versions were worse in every single way. Somehow taking well made music for the SFC's technological limits and downgrading them to something that now would be called a "retro remix" with it's unnecessary 8-bit notes "because Battle Network/EXE did it".

And that's not counting the actual game itself being inferior in visuals, resolution, controls, and it's screwed up Auto-saving system that never worked right.

And let's not get into it's HILARIOUSLY bad translated manual. XD

    6. This. They butchered the music big-time in the GBA Mega Man & Bass port, even moreso than what happened to the Playstation/PC version of Mega Man X3. Admittedly, I do like the way the Pirate Man and Wily stages sound in the GBA version, along with the ending theme.

    7. @Amir: I don't think the GBA was all that better technically in the sound department to SPC700 sound chip. Its Dual 8-bit processing created a heavy reliance on processing and main CPU memory, which is why developers so often struggled on memory management between pieces of data for GBA games, especially games that had to be down sampled from a higher resolution/definition. I've yet to see a game ported from the SNES to the GBA with higher quality sound.

Also Battle Network wasn't the only game out, and I doubt was MM&B's primary influence. The first Zero game was in development around the same time RM&F (GBA version) was and was released months before it, nearly a year in some regions, and the Zero series rarely every used the core 8-bit stereo features of the GBA's sound chip. So why not design MM&B after a similar game, like MMZ? It would seem like the more likely influence.

Also MMBN sounded awesome most of the time (some MMBN hating troll will emerge), it used the GBA sound chip to it's fullest most of the time, and it's music compositions complemented its sound, as they were specifically built for them. MMBN also sounded nothing like MM&B, which sounded dry, as they where chip sounding versions of music with much smaller instrumental channels, the Yoshino Aoki/Kaida EXE compositions had much more dynamic sound channels.

  3. My favorite Megaman game of all time is finally coming to wii u. I hope it comes to the west soon cause all we've been getting are NES games and none of them are megaman 5 or 6.

    1. With Sega Saturn emulation on Wii U...there's always an hope !

    2. Its possible.. All you can is ask Capcom forum and find out about it. I prefer Sega Saturn version because of Cutman and Woodman but with improving FMV quality. The PSX's FMV quality was so much better than Sega Saturn version, you know. :-)

    3. I don't know I have the two versions and there's few difference between them. The graphics looks nicer on saturn IMO

anyway, as a Nintendo fan, my only hope for Rockman 8 on Wii U VC is the Saturn version

  7. Nice. In a perfect world, we would get a faithful re-translation of the game when they decide to bring it to our side of the pond's virtual shop...

But sadly, we're all kind of stuck in the Days of Future Past insofar as Mega Man is concerned, so I'm sure it'll just be a lazy re-release of the original localization.

Seriously, I think if they hadn't trimmed so much of the content from the original and toned down the forced, hammy machismo ("I AM MORE THAN A MACHINE! DIE, WILY!"), people would call this the best Mega Man game out there. Instead, we got a botched Americanized interpretation of Mega Man's character that totally deviates from the original's script, delivered via a font that is truly as ugly as sin. D'oh, well. Still love this game.
